SS Cretic

Here is the SS Cretic, a liner originally built for the Leyland Line.

She was launched as the "Hanoverian" in 1902, but due to the company becoming a part of the International Mercantile Marine Company, she only made 3 voyages for the Leyland Line before being transferred to the Dominion Line. She was renamed "Mayflower", but was transferred again, this time to the White Star Line. She was again renamed, this time to "Cretic", and would serve on White Star Line's Liverpool to Boston routes and briefly the Mediterranean to New York routes. During the later part of World War 1, she was used as a troopship, where she a long with the liners Lapland and Justicia carried 3 battalions of the U.S. 308th Infantry Regiment to Liverpool in 1918. Cretic returned to passenger service in 1919 to serve the Mediterranean routes again. In 1923 she was handed back to her original owners the Leyland Line. She was renamed once again, this time to "Devonian", serving on the Liverpool to Boston routes once more. In 1927, she was chartered by the Red Star Line for 3 voyages before being scrapped in 1929.
