Harem Politics

Description
This mod adds rich new layers of depth, flavor, and strategy for polygamist and concubinist rulers. Through new events, court positions, consort selection mechanics, and a dynamic Favor System, your harem is no longer just decorative; it’s a political battlefield.

UI-Free Version Available:
For those using interface overhaul mods, a UI-free version of Harem Politics is now available. It keeps all core features but removes custom UI elements to avoid conflicts. That version is not compatible with the main mod; use one or the other, not both.

Translations: Links below ↓

Manage the Harem

As a ruler, you’re no longer bound to static relationships. Demote a spouse to a concubine, or elevate a new favorite to the position of Primary Spouse, deposing the current one. This dynamic system lets you reshape your harem to reflect personal favoritism.

The Grand Consort: Below One and Above Many

Available to kings and emperors in non-tribal, non-nomadic governments, the Grand Consort is your second-in-command within the harem. This court position may:
  • Instill Grace.
  • Encourage Relationships.
  • Balance Favor.
Favor System

When a ruler has at least 4 consorts and the appropriate game rule, the Favor System activates. Over time, consorts will rise and fall in the ruler’s esteem:
  • Beloved consorts enjoy privileges and power.
  • Forgotten consorts may become bitter and plot revenge.

Favor can be influenced manually or through events, but boosting one consort may earn the envy of the others.

Consort Selection Events

Eligible rulers (duke-rank and above, of the dominant gender, or with the Palace Politics or Legalistic traditions) may host Consort Selection events. Subjects and tributaries send candidates, ideally relatives, to secure alliances.

Names vary based on gender and government:
  • Male rulers: Demand Brides (Nomadic), Call for Brides (Tribal), Bride Show (others)
  • Female rulers: Demand Consorts (Nomadic), Call for Consorts (Tribal), Consort Selection (others)

Court Drama

Dozens of flavor events bring your harem to life. From rivalries to formal punishments by senior consorts. Even when you’re not watching, the harem schemes continue.

Customizable Game Rules
  • Control the number of consorts allowed by each religion at game start.
  • Adjust how frequently favor updates.

@Sledjer you're right! I hadn't noticed that trigger before. But I still wonder why the load order won't have any effect. That has complicated my mod's integration with RICE

@Coglims unfortunately, any mod that introduces new faiths will be in conflict with Harem politics. It's a bit hard to make a version that'll be generally compatible with other mods. I'm trying to make one, but I don't think it'll be compatible with every mod 😢

Unfortunately this mod is incompatible with RICE, because it has its own entries for accepts_polygamy and accepts_concubinage that forcibly take priority over this mod regardless of load order and don't respect the new allows_polygamy and allows_concubinage triggers.

It's not compatible with Old Gods Expanded. Hope someone creates a patch :(

I just joined the discord. I was able to get the bride show to work as a tribal ruler, but not as a clan or feudal ruler. I can post screenshots after I get back from work

@Rakdos72 that's strange. Could you contact me on Discord?

Feudal for me and vassals. I saw the requirement for non-republic or theocratic vassals, it was always met. I tried as a duke, king, and emperor.

@Rakdos72 Thanks for the info! What’s your government type and the government type of your non-powerful vassals?

The decision appears, but the final condition about having the appropriate amount of vassals can never be satisfied. Even when I have many more than three non-powerful count vassals, the checkbox remains unfilled.

@Rakdow72 hey there. That’s strange. Does the decision appear, or you can’t see it at all?
