What if the protestant reformation never happened? - An alternative history mod

This mod is based on the idea that the protestant reformation never was able to solidify itself as a dominant religion in Europe and that in its stead, a movement of neo-pagan religions spread throughout Europe. Furthermore, this mod tries to envision what could have happened if the thirty years' war, the seven years war, and the Napoleonic wars never happened as a result.

After the protestant reformation not being able to split the catholic church in the early 16th century the catholic church grew bigger and more oppressive as the only religion authority in the more centralized Europe of the 18th century. In the later years of the 18th century a former Norwegian pastor speaks out against the catholic church in Trondheim and - since reforming the catholic church was not seen as an option after almost 2000 years of catholic rule - speaks out in favour of a new religion based around the ideas of the old gods of Norse mythology. After the relative success of this new religion many other regions of Europe take after and the Celtic and Venefist religions follow soon. They continue spreading throughout Europe and after the begins of nationalism start to take root these religions get an ethnic under tone and mind themselves to there respective ethnicities, like the celtic peoples and germanic peoples.

The four new religions are Venefism, a religion based on the idea of witchcraft, astrology, and alchemy, and it is primarily practiced in the British Isles and Latin Europe. Nygammeltro (New-old-faith), based on old Norse pagan ideas, is practiced primarily in Scandinavia. Celtic, based on Celtic pagan gods and rituals, practiced in smaller communities in the British isles as well as in the Breton lands in western France, smaller enclaves can also be found in more remote areas on the Iberian peninsula. Suomenusko (Finnish-faith), based on Finnish paganism, practiced in Finland as well as in part of Estonia.
All religions are closely linked with their ethnic group and could be described as ethno-religions.

P.S. the lore of this world/mod is still in its early stages of development and as a result, there might be slight inconsistencies in our world-building. But fear not as we are hard at work and will try our best to create a fun and intriguing world for you to get immersed in!
