Genetic History: Dunkirk

Description
The Story:
France, May 1940.

During the Battle of France in May 1940, the Germans managed to encircle a huge British expeditionary force near Dunkirk. However, Miraculously, the British managed to flee the European mainland. In the spring of 1940, more than two hundred thousand British expeditionary forces were on the European mainland. This army had to be able to come to the aid of the allies France and Belgium when needed. When the Germans invaded France and Belgium in May 1940, that help was very welcome. The British offered resistance, but because of the rapid advance of the Nazis they were pushed back. French border positions were quickly overrun and the British expeditionary force was surrounded at Dunkirk, the only remaining Allied port. On 24 May 1940, Hitler ordered his troops advancing towards the Channel to halt at Grevelingen, a town a few kilometers southwest of Dunkirk. From a German perspective, that was a dramatic decision in retrospect. The Nazis lost the initiative and enabled the British to set up defences and implement an evacuation plan. The British and French who were rescued later contributed to the fall of the Third Reich. The decision to temporarily halt the advance and not take Dunkirk did not come out of the blue. Hermann Göring had previously assured Hitler that it was impossible for the British to escape thanks to his Luftwaffe. It also seemed extremely unlikely that the thousands of British could get away from Dunkirk. That the reason why it was later referred to as "the miracle of Dunkirk".

Whatever the exact reason for the Halt order was, the fact is that the British took advantage of this first pause in combat after 2 weeks of uninterrupted German attacks. The defense line at Dunkirk was reinforced and a major evacuation campaign was also launched. This campaign came to be known as Operation Dynamo. Evacuation from Dunkirk (1940), also known as Operation Dynamo, was for the british the most important event during the Second World War. Allmost 400,000 soldiers were trapped helplessly on the beach with nowhere to go. They could only escape by sea. That is why the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill came up with Operation Dynamo. Anything that could float was sent to Dunkirk, a total of about 900 ships, pleasure yachts, motorboats, and so on. The operation was successful: 218,000 British and 123,000 French were rescued and sailed to England. Meanwhile, the other troops defended Dunkirk. On June 4th, the Germans take Dunkirk. Almost all Allied soldiers have already been evacuated, but 40,000 French and English were left behind to fight...

Cool, but your description almost doesn't mention the fact that the French saved Dynamo almost alone at Dunkirk and Lille

you need to read more history books , the bugging was much later in the war , the germans couldent believe they had gotten so far and hitler thought it was some sort of trap , a certain high commander had ignored orders to stop and pushed on , remember they were all on pespertan , called met these days so they knew they could only sustain for a period of time , france had a huge army and much more and much heavier tanks, it was just the way they used them , tactics , all about tactics

actually we kno what the reason the halt order was now, captured german officers were given nice quarters and living space for a time in bugged rooms, all conversations were recorded. what happened was the still obstinate commanders were stopping things to sort of rebel, hitler to re-assertain power ordered them formally to stay there to show strength and power. basically.

That's cool. Was there any actual fighting right in Dunkirk or is this alternate history?
