Dragapult is a powerful, floaty glass cannon fighter in the vain of Mewtwo, who sports a strong neutral presence and combo game. Sporting a tricky projectile in Dragon Darts and an array of solidly large normals, Dragapult can dominate the neutral with relative ease, putting the opponent into dangerous situations which you can capitalize off of for huge reward. However, while his toolkit is powerful, he is an enormous character with a light weight that betrays his gurth, making him extremely susceptible to getting comboed hard and dying early. This is coupled with his powerful attacks being either very laggy, sporting large extended hurtboxes that are easy to whiff punish or trade against… or both, so reckless play leaves him liable to getting killed. Still, this powerful pseudo legendary packs the tools to put the opponent into a world of hurt before they get the chance to strike him down.

Notable Attacks

Special (Jab/Nair) – Dragon Darts
Dragapult rears its head back before launching a Dreepy forward out of the chambers in his horns. This attack on its own is a somewhat short-ranged projectile that sets a Dreepy on the field after the projectile stops traveling. This Dreepy will sit in place until Dragapult uses Special again or it’s destroyed by the opponent (It can be destroyed like any other basic fireball). If the Dreepy doesn’t hit an opponent during its initial travel period, it still retains its initial active hitbox, allowing it to serve as a trap/combo extension tool if the opponent goes near it.

If you perform Special while a Dreepy is sitting Idle, Dragapult will shoot another Dreepy which will rocket towards the already active one. Once the two Dreepy collide, they create a large vortex around them which covers a large amount of space all at once and sports a much more combo-oriented launch angle, making it a dangerous ranged space control tool that sports a lot of utility. Do keep in mind that all variations of Dragon Darts are counted as standard projectiles, meaning they can all be disrupted by other projectiles and other physical attacks. So while they may look scary… they can be decently easy to counteract.

Utilt – U-Turn
Dragapult ducks down before launching himself into a flip kick. This is a slower than average Utilt that packs impressive vertical range and leaves you airborne on hit or on whiff, allowing for it to be a bit safer to whiff than other Utilts while also allowing for strong aerial conversions on hit. However, it’s also notably lacking in terms of disjointed hitboxes, resulting in it being potentially easy to beat it out with aerial attacks.

Uair – Phantom Force
Dragapult summons a portal that he rapidly travels through. After a bit, he reemerges with a powerful tail swing that shakes the screen in an instant. This is a powerful, albeit heavily committal, recovery tool that sports a strong killing strike when he reappears, making it a strong ranged punish tool and potential kill option. Holding 1 of the 8 cardinal directions will cause him to travel in that direction during the period where he’s invisible, allowing you to cover a solid variety of angles with this one move. Uair also sports a hitbox as he travels through the portal, which can potentially link into Uair’s reappear hit if you read the opponent’s DI correctly, though that is pretty finicky.

While Uair seems intimidating… which it is, it’s worth keeping in mind that it is a huge commitment to perform and can be both interrupted just before he does the reappear hit and punished with relative ease once it’s over. He also doesn’t have any way to mix up the timing, so once he commits to it, you can potentially capitalize off of that to punish him before he gets the chance to smack you with it.
