Description


Heritage of Charlemagne

This mod allows you to (re) found the Kingdom of Charlemagne as an empire tier Empire comprising the terretories from the Pyrenees to the Oder and from the North Sea to middle Italy.

It also replaces the empires of France, Germany and Italy with said kingdom of Charlemagne (empire tier).

⚙️ Features
  • removes the empires of France, Germany and Italy at empire tier.
  • adds a new custom empire at empire tier, called "Romanum Imperium".
  • de jure capital of the empire is Aachen.
  • removes the kingdom of Brittany from the new empire.
  • adds a custom CoA for "Romanum Imperium".
  • replaces the names of the four carolingian kingdoms (startdate 867) with their historical denominations.









Coat of Arms

during the time of Charlemagne there was not heraldry like in later centuries. It is therefore not possible to say how Charlemagne chose to represent himself and his realm. Of the few banners known to be associated with or at least attributed to Charlemagne I chose the one from the Triclinium Leoninum mosaic in San Giovanni in Laterano (Rome). The mosaic shown (although made in 1743) is said to be an exact copy of the 9th century original from Lateran Palace and the person on the far left is generally identified as Charlemagne.
Following this I have create what I believe to be an approximate rendition of the depicted banner: six red flowers (?) with a bright heart on a green ground interspersed with twenty-two bright (golden?) dots (stars?).
If you do not agree with this CoA for the Romanum Imperium be sure to use the CoA designer ingame.






Recommendation

I highly recommend using some historical flavour mod.




Compatibility
High compatibility. But best load last/after any mods changing landed_titles.




Known issues:

The newly created empire uses e_germany as it's base. This is due to an issue with german landed titles dissapearing if added to any empire tier outside of e_germany. So far I did not encounter any issues. There might be issues with the formation of the HRE. If you encounter any issues be sure to let me know.

If anybody knows how to fix the issue with the dissapearing german landed titles please let me know so I can properly create the Romanum Imperium as a standalone empire.

yes making custom decisions is very much possible. I might have to look into it tho. The main issue with decisions is that they use a lot of predefined scopes and I'm not sure if the code itself allows for a lot of custom stuff. Like e.g. I was able to change the CoA but not the color used on the map.
What could be done is to make custom decisions to form the vanilla empires. Like let's say you're the king of West Francia and want to break with the carolingian tradition and establish your own Empire of France. Since that would use mostly vanilla stuff such a decision would probably be easier to make than custom ones.

Oh you misunderstand I'm not saying your mod is bad or you should change it, I know there is a restore the Chalemagne borders in the base game. I was just wondering if your mod would be able to replace the vanilla decision without completely removing the other empires from the game. Still a good mod in my opinion

@Scorp &Ego_Crazy there already is such a decission available in the vanilla game. The reason behind this mod is my dislike of the Empire system in CK3 as such. Take for example the kingdom of France: if you start in 867 as King of West Francia after a few years at maximum you can create the Empire of France (same goes for Italy). While surely there could have been the possibility of those rulers to create their own empires, they never did. At least nominally and in spirit the Empire of Charlemagne still existed for some time. So for me it would make sense that this is an Empire you can reach at Empire tier of the game.
