Still not done with the mermaids but the Ants are 90% done. I should, if things go alright, have everything ready by next weekend.
To give you a clrearer idea:
In original game each portarit set have technically the same portaraits, just redrawn a bit. Color here, detail there.
But if you will make them black-and-while, where "person" is black, and background is white, you will see that portraits are nearly identical within one set. And even between sets the poses and overall positionning of head-body-hands is very similar.
This allowed PDX animators to use the same template over and over again - in other words, there are actually very few uniquie portrait animations in Stellaris.
But in this case, portaraits are different, and different by A LOT. Which skyrokets the amount of work to be done. as you need unique animation for nearly each portrait, and this will take years for one person to do in his free time.
