Anglo-Saxon Varangians

Deskripsi
At some point around the 10th-11th centuries, people of Anglo-Saxon origin began to be recruited into the Varangian Guard. A significant influx of these mercanaries came as a result of the Norman Conquest of England, which created a notable Anglo-Saxon disaspora population in the Roman Empire. Considering this, it's strange that Anglo-Saxon characters can't recruit Varangian Veterans. This mod aims to remedy that.

Probably requires Northern Lords, but if you can use this without it, more power to you.

Compatibility: Should work with anything that doesn't modify the Hirds tradition, which means most mods.

Historicity: Anglo-Saxons are a widely accepted and relatively well-documented group present in the Roman Empire's Varangian Guard (https://deremilitari.org/2014/06/english-refugees-in-the-byzantine-armed-forces-the-varangian-guard-and-anglo-saxon-ethnic-consciousness/), however, I do not know of any significant accounts of these Varangians returning to fight for the King of England, who would have been Norman for the majority of the time that this element existed in the Guard. Additionally, they would not have been present in the Guard in the 867 start date; however, to my understanding the same is true for Huscarls as well -- the institution was more present in Scandinavia before being brought over to Britain by the Danes, so the "Hirds" tradition doesn't really make sense at all in the 867 start date.

I think I meant to say initially they didn't have longaxes. I apologies for my poor wording.

However, the "Varangian Veteran" units are explicitly supposed to be veteran members of the Varangian Guard of the Roman Empire. Thus, it's less connected to culture and more to... history, basically.

While the Anglo-Saxons did not have Longaxe wielding Housecarls, they did have a heavy retinue of Carl (freemen) representatives that were known as a "Gedriht" (my username would probably be Wodnes Gedriht in Old English). They filled the same role Housecarls and Knights played on the battlefield. However for the majority of the time ck3 takes place in, Housecarl replaced the term "Gedriht" so I do feel that is fairly accurate.
Varangian literally translates to "War-Ganger" The Anglo-Saxons also made use of the word "Gang" a word that meant 'To go forth; So "Varangian "(kinda makes sense for any Germanic culture, in particular the North and West Germanics who stayed truer to their ancient Germanic then their Frankish, Gothic and Lombard brethren.

I combined a bunch of my mods, including this one together: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3344508295

Oh, that's already in the game. You have to play as Hereward the Wake, then swap to Siward once the event to do so pops up.

With the new update It of Landless Rulers, could you Update this mod to include a Banished Anglo-Saxon lord with roughly 6000 men at arms, that spawns after William the Conqueror successfully invades England?

their story/decisions should be based off this historical plotline if you do:
The Englishmen sailed down through the Straits of Gibraltar and onward to the Mediterranean, retaking lands for Christendom as they went. They came to Constantinople which was under siege by foreign foes, and vowed to aid Emperor Alexios. This was the start of the Anglo-Saxon branch of the Varangian Guard. As time went on, some of the Anglo-Saxon warriors decided to find a place to start a new colony, which they deemed Nova Anglia, or New England, somewhere in modern-day Crimea. Emperor Alexios said that if they could reconquer those lands, they could keep them - and that they did. They named their cities London and York.

Will this still work with the recent update?

It simply isn't _supposed_ to affect the dynastic decisions. Rather, it tacks the ability to recruit Varangian Veterans on the "Witengamot" tradition. Or the Hirds tradition. I forget which. Regardless, I can't update it because of... it's a long story, but basically I don't have the original files and I can't overwrite the current files with ones that I download... again, long story.

I couldn't see anything in dynastic decisions for the varangian guard so unless you put the option in some other catigory then this mod no longer functions. Would love an update to the mod please.

It should still function.
