FS Ale 803 EMU trains

Attenzione: questa mod non và a sostituire la vecchia versione dma. Possono anche convivere ma, la differenza in termini qualitativi, è evidente (o almeno, spero lo sia).

Nel corso degli anni 50 venne gradualmente sviluppata, direttamente sul campo, l'evoluzione delle automotrici di prima generazione (le Ale 883). Dapprima Ale 840, per poi passare alla Ale 660 e terminare con la Ale 540, la cui ultima fornitura anticipava chiaramente, sotto il punto di vista estetico, quali sarebbero state le linee inconfondibili dei nuovi rotabili delle FS.
Nel 1961 vennero immesse in servizio le Ale 601, da cui derivarono le Ale 803; sono tecnicamente due famiglie di treni identici ma studiati per due tipologie di servizio offerto.
La prima serie di Ale 803 era concepita piuttosto in economia: un esempio sono gli interni, composti da economiche sedute in vetroresina o, per citare altro, i carrelli, riciclati da quelli in uso sugli ETR 200 (a quel tempo in corso di riqualificazione). La fornitura di questo primo lotto prevedeva una quota parte di treni equipaggiati con gancio tradizionale fs ed un'altra parte fornita di gancio automatico (specificamente per la metropolitana di Napoli).
Nel 1970 iniziarono le consegne della seconda serie, già forti di migliorie sperimentate durante il servizio: il portellone di copertura dell'intercomunicante venne sostituito con due più pratiche ante scorrevoli; ciò rese necessario il dover incassare i fari frontali. Gli ampi vetri della cabina di guida vennero rimpiazzati da più piccoli cristalli antinfortunistici.
Nel 1976, parallelamente all'immissione in servizio delle Ale 801/940, i carrelli dei treni di prima serie (che presentavano evidenti difetti) vennero sostituiti con quelli di uguale fornitura delle 801/940.
A partire dal 1982, la modifica ai vetri frontali della cabina venne estesa anche ai treni di prima serie.
Come tutti i veicoli del parco rotabili FS, anche queste vetture ricevvetero la livrea XMPR nel corso degli anni 90, colorazione che le accompagnò fino alla totale radiazione nel 2015.

During the 1950s, the evolution of the first generation railcars (the Ale 883) was gradually developed directly during the service. Starting from Ale 840, then moving on to Ale 660 and ending to Ale 540, whose last serie clearly anticipated, from an aesthetic point of view, what would be the unmistakable lines of the new FS rolling stock.
In 1961 the Ale 601 started their service, from which the Ale 803 were derived; they are technically two families of identical trains but designed for two types of service offered.
The first series of Ale 803 was rather economically conceived: an example are the interiors, made up of cheap fiberglass seats or, to mention another, the bogies, recycled from those used on the ETR 200 (at that time undergoing redevelopment) . This first lot of trains included a number of them equipped with a traditional fs hook and another part equipped with an automatic coupler (specifically for the Naples metro).
In 1970 the deliveries of the second series began, already strong of improvements tested during the service: the door covering the intercom was replaced with two more practical sliding doors; this made it necessary to recess the front headlights. The large windows in the cockpit were replaced by smaller accident prevention windows.
In 1976, at the same time of the ALe 801/940 deliveries, the bogies of the first series trains (which showed evident defects) were replaced with those of the same supply of the 801/940.
Starting from 1982, the modification to the front windows of the cabin was also extended to the first series trains.
Like all the vehicles in the FS rolling stock, these multiple units received the XMPR livery during the 90s, a color that accompanied them until the total radiation in 2015.
