Steel Legion Armoury

Description
Ive been working on this mod for my latest playthrough and while I havnt added everything I want to yet there is still enough to share.

What this mod adds;

Steel Legion Chest Armour - Its a mix of Mercinary Plate and Armoured Rags, This version is 'Painted' as its ment for the main female character in my current playthrough. The male version is working fine and is slightly different. - This is fairly strong armour intended to be viable late game.

Steel Legion Plated Pants - Also the 'painted' version intended for my main character this leg armour is a retextured version of plated drifter pants. Upgraded to Heavy Armour and adds 50 acid protection its competative with other end game gear.

Steel Legion Under Armour - Added to complete the look and add good blunt resist+50 acid protection, fairly trash vs slashing.

Fixed the female robot helm - Just added a female version of the helm mesh that sits correctly. Kenshi only had the male version for both.

Steel Legion start - start with a decent (20's) charcter in specialist Steel Legion Armour and a catun Guardless Katana. Also 4 level 1 toons to do the grunt work.

All Armours are made at the plate armour table, blueprints added to one of the merchants. I forgot which one. ;P

-Update 1- 30/09/21

After playing for ten minutes I decided the painted texture was not my liking - so I retextured in RUST, trying to match in to the MkI colors.

-Added MkI variant armour - prototype, may change (Ill add more plates)
-Added Rusty Steel Legion Armour and Pants. Blueprints at Mongrel Armour Shop.
-Left in 'painted' Variants for now.. I'll probably update the texture on it later.

-Update 2- (for 30/09/21)

-Finished and added first helm, only boots left to complete the armour set.
-Added new rusted gear blueprints to mongrel Armour Vendor
-Updated Steel legion start to start with all new gear

-Update 3- 2/10/21

-Re-textured the painted plate -- I like this version much better
-Added a new mesh for the male varient of Rusted Pants.
-Added a new model and texture for the MkI Steel Legion Armour. (this is for seketons using the MkI body because other armors clip horribly on them)

-Update 4 -
- Re-worked the MkI Armour, new mesh and texture, I just didnt like the old one :)
- Added icons to stop any 'old' icons from displaying the armour incorrectly in inventory.

-Update 5 3/10/21 -
Seems the custom icons are not working for everyone so I turned them off, the items will now auto generate an icon, if they dont, you can fix it by going into kenshi/data/icons, search 'Steel" then delete the icons that apear. next time you play they will re-generate as they are supposed to.

-Amended Update 5- I think I solved the problem (icons folder in the mod wasnt lower case 'i'), the custom icons are back in and seem to be working as intended. let me know if they are still an issue.

-Update 6- 7/10/21

-Added Steel Legion Heavy Plate. Kept the arm guards, the rest is entirely custom model.
-Re-balanced Steel legion armours, Heavy plate has the same defence as previous plate(with some draw backs), quality on old plate armours reduced by 5, quality on under armour reduced by 10, acid resist no longer 100% (only 60, 30 on under armour, 30 on plate pants) -- may change

--Notes on last update--
-may have to power down armour more, way too strong at max tier,
-Turns out the Heavy Armour mesh I added fits almost perfectly on the MkI model with minimal clipping. I feel a bit silly for making the MkI frame armour now XD. But I did use the chest plate from it so not entirely a waste.

-Update 7- 7/10/21-

Could not help myself, re-modeled the MkI armour using the some of the Heavy Armour parts, Looks great, I love it, time well spent. :)
-Also added a custom screamer sub race that uses my textures for its face plate.

-Update 8- 7/10/21-
-Rebalanced Merc plate to bring them more into line with Kenshi armours. (Honestly I dont notice the difference in my play through)
-Added 'Painted' MkI Amour. I went with Hotrod flames because I just recruited Burn.

-Update 9- 8/10/21

Added Skeleton Bandit Heavy Armour and Full Body Under Armour. I'll add these to Skeleton Bandits in a faction Mod. These are avaliable at Armour King for sale or blueprints.

-Update- 9/10/21-
Added Elite Steel Legion Plate and MkI Armour Frame, Not rusted at all.
The Under armour has been extended from shirt to wet suit level coverage. Acid resist on it increased to 80.

-Update 10 -

Added Elite plate Leg Harness. Re-modled and Re-textured the Elite plate a bit so it looks more 'refined'.

Update 11 - 11/10/21

Added the Elite Armour Helm.

What I plan to add;

Lots. Im thinking of doing a full set in that plastic white metal kenshi seems to have and then add them to the skeleton bandits. Adding stuff to a faction will have to be another mod tho.

There is an obvious problem with your MOD! ! ! The appearance always disappears! !
It becomes like this at every turn! Don't you fix the MOD? ?

Hello hello;
I'm having the same vanishing armor bug. Setting the mod near the top of the list doesn't matter: my chars complain they're running naked..
While checking your mod, I found I'm unable to open any of the DDS files. So... stupid question: are your dds supported 'fully' by Ogre or something? As i can't check their format with my current dds viewer: I'm just suggesting that maybe.. maybe.. you may try to set one diffuse to regular dx5 + mipmap just for people to test if those dds are ok or not.. or the models are too heavy.. or I don't know XD
Just an idea. Don't hit me on the head eh...

where can a guy find the elite armor blueprints

That seems like the likely culprit.

I don't really have the patience for in-depth modding, but to anyone willing to spend the time, it shouldn't be too hard as long as you already have this mod.
Take the workshop folder and move it to the Kenshi mods folder, rename accordingly, it should appear in the editor now and you should be able to finagle with its assets. You'd need to take each of the armor sets and add them into a "new mod" section for each one.

If nobody does it by like, february I'll give it a shot myself. But I can't promise it'll work or fix the issue since I have literally 0% modding experience aside from making new game starts for myself.

@Butterscotch - Unfortunately I cant seem to figure out what is wrong to fix the intermittent disappearing. On my machine it happens very occasionally, and seemingly only for this mod. Bumping it to first in the load order seems to fix it so it is super rare for me now. My best guess at this point is Ogre failing to load it due to either file size or the number of custom meshes. So most most likely its an issue with how mod data is loaded by the engine. If the mod is split into smaller mods/ one per armour set / the smaller mods may be more stable and fix the issue. I do not have time to do that. But anyone with a decent understanding of how to mod kenshi could, - If someone did this, and it works to resolve the issue - I am not opposed to them then posting it on steam as a collaboration project and linking me as a contributor (for the mesh and textures)

What you said worked and it showed up in game, Thank you! Reinstalling it and bumping it around the load order fixed the not showing up at all problem, though I am now getting exactly what Professor Kaban had where upon reloading a save it's invisible again bar the under suit. Though from the time I did have with it it looks awesome so really good work on that!

@Butterscotch - Merry Christmas to you as well, I hope it works for you, I generally make these mods for my own play through but I do like knowing others get to enjoy them as well.
Butterscotch Dec 25, 2021 @ 3:09am
I'll give a few of these ago and see what works, thank your for your help. Hope you're having a very good Christmas!

@Butterscotch - It is possible that the mod simply has too much new data to load correctly. Ogre seems to be temperamental af sometimes. If you have ruled out file compatibility issues (3), and tried 1 and 2, you can try making a custom mod using the armour you want from this one by ripping the assets needed and putting them in your new custom mod. If you did this for one armour and it worked all the time the issue would then most likely be the size of the mod causing it to fail to load correctly. - I cant really test any of this for you since I don't have any way to replicate the error
