A grande richiesta (purtroppo) arriva il Minuetto, sia in versione elettrica Ale 501 + Le220 + Ale 502 e sia in versione diesel Aln 501 + Ln220 + Aln502.
Alla fine degli anni 90, si rese necessario avviare un processo di rinnovo del parco rotabili per poter sostituire veicoli leggeri ormai datati, come le Aln 668 e le Ale 801/940.
Da progetto, il nuovo treno avrebbe dovuto garantire standard prestazionali superiori ed un livello di comfort, per i viaggiatori, migliore rispetto a prima.
La commessa venne vinta, mediante gara d'appalto, dalla Alstom, che già commercializzava treni della piattaforma Coradia in tutta europa. Nacque il Coradia Meridian, immatricolato in italia come una Automotrice leggera (elettrica o diesel) e soprannominato "minuetto", sulla corrente musicale - come da usanza in questo ultimo periodo.

Il treno è composto da due motrici con cabine dalla linea innovativa, il cui carrello anteriore è quello "motorizzato" (sia per la versione elettrica e sia per quella diesel). La rimorchiata intercalata poggia su due carrelli portanti, carrelli su cui anche le casse delle motrici trovano alloggio. Nella rimorchiata intercalata trovano posto il bagno, il posto per le biciclette, i pantografi nel caso della versione elettrica e diversi strapuntini. La grande nota positiva di questi rotabili è la presenza dei vestiboli in posizione ribassata, per agevolare l'incarrozzamento dei viaggiatori e facilitare l'ingresso delle persone con abilità ridotte. La quantità di posti a sedere esprime chiaramente la natura di questo treno: nato per servire le linee secondarie.

Il minuetto diesel è mosso da due motori IVECO V8 (uno per ogni motrice) da 560kw l'uno, mentre la trasmissione avviene mediante giunto idro-meccanico. La velocità massima impostata è di 130km/h.
Il minuetto elettrico è mosso da motori elettrici alimentati a mezzo inverter, per una potenza orario complessiva di 1250kw. Velocità massima 160km/h.

Escludendo alcuni rotabili che hanno subito gravi incidenti, i "minuetti" sono attualmente tutti in servizio. Alcune amministrazioni concesse utilizzano minuetti di loro proprietà.

By huge demand (unfortunately), here it comes the Minuetto, both in the electric version Ale 501 + Le220 + Ale 502 and in the diesel version Aln 501 + Ln220 + Aln502.
At the end of the 90s, it became necessary to start a process of renewal of the rolling stock in order to replace obsolete light vehicles, such as the Aln 668 and the Ale 801/940.
By design project, the new train should have had higher performance standards and a better level of comfort for travelers than before.
The order was won by Alstom, which was already marketing Coradia platform throughout Europe. Coradia Meridian was born, registered in Italy as a light railcar (electric or diesel) and nicknamed "minuetto", as is in use in this last period.

The train consists of two power cars with innovative cabins, whose front bogie is the "motorized" one (for both the electric and diesel versions). The trailer rests on two supporting bogies, on which the chassis of the power cars are also housed. In the intercalated trailer there is a bathroom, a place for bicycles, pantographs in the case of the electric version and several folding seats. The great positive note of these rolling stock is the presence of the doors in a lowered position, to facilitate the embedding of travelers and facilitate the entry of people with reduced skills. The amount of seats clearly expresses the nature of this train: born to serve secondary lines.

The diesel minuetto is powered by two IVECO V8 (I can't type the engine's tag cause steam is banning the word) engines (one for each power unit) of 560kw each, while the transmission takes place via hydro-mechanical coupling. The maximum speed set is 130km/h.

The electric minuetto is driven by electric motors powered by an inverter, for a total power of 1250kw. Maximum speed 160km/h.

Excluding some rolling stock that have suffered serious accidents, the "minuetti" are currently all in service. Some licensed administrations use minuettos of their own property
