FPV Drone

This addon will let you pilot FPV drone. Unlike other traditional drones used for filming, you have full control on every axis without stabilisation, it is used to do freestyle, flying around through tight gaps or even racing.

For now you can only use the drone with a controller. Maybe I will add a keyboard/mouse support in a future update if I figure out how to support this but a controller is still the most recommended for piloting a FPV Drone.

If you are an experienced pilot with a transmitter, it is also compatible and provides an even better experience.

You can find a list of nice maps to fly around in my own Workshop collection.

The steps below are explained on the second video of the addon gallery or directly on Youtube where I've put timestamps on the differents chapters of my video.

In order to use a controller or transmitter, you will need to install the Joystick-Module:

• Download the joystick module on the GitHub link I provided above (click on the green code button above the files then download zip)
  
• Navigate to your Garry's Mod folder (right click on Garry's Mod in your library -> manage -> browse local files)
  
• Extract the addon and lua folders of the module in the garrysmod folder (where is located addon, backgrounds,bin,... folders)

In your spawn menu, go to the options tab on your right then find the FPV Drone controls menu.

Click on "Open joystick configuration" button.

On the left side you should see your joystick device with your moving sticks axis. Grab an axis region (left, right or middle side) and then release on one of the FPV drone controls.

The recommended controls layout:
Left stick

• Up-down: Throttle
  
• Left: Yaw left
  
• Right: Yaw right

Right stick

• Up: Pitch down
  
• Down: Pitch up
  
• Left: Roll left
  
• Right: Roll right

If your throttle is inverted, check the square on the right of the axis gauge of the throttle.

Piloting a FPV drone is very complex and have some learning curve. Don't be surprised if you cannot handle it at your first try.

Be advised that it doesn't reproduce accurate physics of a real FPV Drone, as it rely entirely on Garry's Mod's physics engine.

This addon is good for discovering how it is to pilot FPV drone or just having fun with the huge amount of maps that the Gmod community has created. If you want a more accurate experience, I recommend you to try a FPV simulator such like DRL Sim or LiftOff

This is also a very basic add-on that doesn't offer in-depth customisation. I do offer a complete sensitivity sliders based on BetaFlight but not other more complex stuffs like the quad's weight, PID and other stuffs.


Everything including my very basic 3D model were done by myself. And the motor sound were taken from DRL Sim.
