Yeol's 20th Century Darker Ballast

Description
20th Century Darker Ballast

Standard track gets a darker colour. All other types of track keep their ballast colour including high speed track

Update 1.01: corrected so that high speed track is not rendered with dark ballast anymore.
Mark that combining high speed and normal speed tracks does not go well. Textures do not render well together. The base game is (to my knowledge) not prepared to combine different ballast colours at points, or just side by side. So, avoid the joining of both track types if possible... for the good looks.

Update 1.02: made this mod compatible with the "Bullhead Railway Track" mod

For those who like all ballast for all tracks, including high speed of the darker variant, then use this mod https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2177199477

Chris, I've posted the All-Dark ballast mod. I hope this is more what you look for. ;)

I've checked, and you are right the the bullhead track with darker ballast, even high speed look great together.

I'll post an "All Dark" ballast mod for you. I have the original still on my disk.

My knowledge about ballast is about the Belgian State Railways. They covered sleepers into the track bed until after WWI. But at other railways it might have been different. Thanks for the correction.

Yes I have checked 1.02. It only works on standard track, the only place on my maps that use 'standard' track is in the stations where modded track still does not work. Therefore this mod is no longer any use to me.
PS: Major 19th century railways did use ballast, some covered the sleepers with the ballast others did not. Some railway economised and used cheaper alternatives like shingle (SE&CR).

AH! Sorry, but now I understand your remark, Sorry for being slow. You prefer the highspeed tracks also to have the darker ballast colour. Ok, I see... problem... choices... I've to think...

Chris, here is a picture of the different tracks from the two mods you mentioned. What is wrong with these tracks?

Have you checked this latest version? 1.02.

I made some modifications to make it less intrusive, and only applying darker colour on the default track. No modifications are done on the high speed track ballast anymore.

Sorry the mod no longer woks with the bullhead track mod. The mods you made for high speed track renders this mod useless for me!
I can't see why high speed track cannot use this mod, the ballast used on HS1 is standard ballast that darkens with age.

Hello Chris, I had to make some adjustments for it to be compatible with Bullhead Railway Track mod, so I published version 1.02 with the corrections. It runs well together now,

I'll test with the mod you mentioned.

In the 19th century there was no "ballast". Sleepers were put into a sand bed, and only the rail was visible. The ballast bed has appeared at about 1920-ish. But that's details. We are using ballast beds in this game from 1850, and that is fine. ;)

I use the 'Bullhead rail on wooden sleepers', by killakanz and the 'old rusty track' mod. Please do not make alterations that make the mod stop working with these mods.
PS: Why is it called '20th century' as it also works for the 19th century? This is good!
