Early brake vans were typically of similar construction of general purpose open wagons, with basic shelter added for the guard.
From the 1870s the GWR built many new brake vans with outside frames. The general layout with only a rear veranda setting the style for all their future designs.
In the early 1900s the GWR built a batch of 6 wheeled brake vans to provide extra braking force and they were consequently used on larger mineral trains.

In this period British freight trains were required to have a brake van at the rear of the train for safety reasons. Since many waggons only had manual brakes, the brake van would aid the engine with braking on declines and also help prevent couplings breaking when the train started moving. The guard who travelled in the van was first aid trained in case of an accident. (Has no practical function in the game, so has no cost or weight.)

Includes placeable Asset versions.

Update 9/2020 : Added 3 new types (9 variants).

@King Yanxa - If you're not in the "All" or "Wagon" section it won't show in the search (it has no cargo capacity or engine). It's listed in the midst of the wagons for me. Otherwise it could be a conflict with another mod maybe. Or maybe try unsubscribing and resubscribing?

This doesn't appear in any of my games - I'll get the notification at the appropriate year saying it's been unlocked, but even if searching "Toad", "Brake", etc., it still doesn't show up. Any ideas?

@cdaguiar - They carry nothing. They're just for authentic looks on GWR freight trains.

what can they carry?

@Autocoach - I've now changed them to be auto-calculated.

It does not appear to have been reported but I can 100% repeat an issue with the 1903 brake van causing emissions to collapse to 0 across the map and indeed never return . Tested on a test map with the van pulled by a vanilla loco , as soon as it is running the emissions collapse centred on the vehicle. Tried increasing the emissions a bit and it had no effect. Are you able to repeat or propose a solution ?
