Through playing in the brief timespan.

Can anyone explain how the item gene works example I got a superior gene of putit. What do I do with it?

You need to get 75 gold bars and speak to Nino at Tinker's Camp to exchange them for a bio-engineering machine. From there on you can place the machine at your home and take your NPC to it. You'll be able to apply the genes to them if they have enough feat points.
