Build isn't loading all the right art tiles (textures)
When I enter 3D mode I can only see a handful of textures that aren't even in the proper game. Consequently the display in 3D is all messed up and because there are missing textures all I get is one massive "hall-of-mirrors" effect. How do I get Build to load all the art tiles (textures) from Duke Nukem classic?

If I place a sprite in a new map, enter 3D mode, hover my mouse over it and press V to view all the games textures there are only 33 textures and none of them are in the vanilla game.

I posted this a while ago . . but here is how I got my textures appearing.

Here is a fix to get all the DN3D textures appearing in the texture/sprite view:

Using dosbox, mount c:\ as (Windows Xp/7/Vista 64 bit) c:\progra~2\steam\steama~1\common\dukenu~1\gameroot\classic
(32 bit) c:\program files\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Duke Nukem 3D\gameroot\classic

Go into the folder you set while in dosbox and use the following commands: kextract duke32.grp *.art, kextract duke3d.grp *.dat

copy the files that were extracted and put them in the gameroot folder. It will fix the issue where the Duke Nukem 3D tiles are not showing up in the tile selection screen.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

I get Illegal command: kextract.

I had some difficulty mounting it but it's okay now, thought it was because Steam is on E: and not my C: drive where Windows is. But anyway the kextract command is unrecognised.

Yeah this is f'kd up. Turned out I hadn't quite mounted it right. It's a bit confusing because Steam is on my E: drive. I managed to extract the art, but not sure where to put them. If I leave them in the classic folder and run Build from the Steam launcher I still don't get the texutres or sprites in the editor. If I put them and PALLETTE.DAT and TABLES.DAT in the bin folder with Build.exe and run it I get one default brick texture and nothing else.

And if I put the .ART files in gameroot I get purple default brick and nothing else!

And if I try to run the Build.exe in the Classic fodler in Dosbox I get the license message pop and nothing happens when I press Y or any other key.

Guess this isn't going to work then.

I had this problem, I replaced build.exe by mapster32 (from Eduke32), I renamed mapster32.exe to build.exe and it works.

Where do I get Mapster32? I only seem to be able to find Eduke without it.

Did they loose the Build license or something? Because all the Eduke32 downloads I'm finding either don't have Mapster32 included or the downloaded archive is empty (including empty of Eduke itself). What's going on?

Well, that was f'kd up. I randonly downloaded an old snapshot, version 20091017 I think. And Maspter32 was in the zip. Renamed it Build.exe and now it works.

Sorry about that, Mapster32 was recently moved out of the current builds of eduke32 and into separate zips. You can find Mapster here: http://dukeworld.duke4.net/eduke32/synthesis/ Choose the latest: http://dukeworld.duke4.net/eduke32/synthesis/20140124-4266/ At this point in time it is this and choose which eduke32-sdk zip suits you. For me I would use the 64bit Windows one.

I wouldn't advise using a much older version of Mapster like you chose.

Thanks. That older Mapster I had wasn't working properly.
