Second Chance Heroes
August 9, 2013 - Rocket City Studios

Today we have four new previews of Second Chance Heroes. Each of DSOGaming, BitMaiden, The Noobist and Co-Optimus played the game a bit over the last week and gave some initial impressions to their readers:

  • The Noobist[]: "Not to mention the fact that mowing down zombie hobos with the Queen’s Gatling-gun just never gets old."
  • Co-Optimus[]: "And while some are "historically accurate" with their weapon of choice - Joan of Arc uses a sword for instance - others, like Abe Lincoln aren't. He wields a chainsaw."
  • DSO Gaming[]: "Rocket City Studios has managed to create an addictive and enjoyable indie game, or at least that’s what we feel after playing its preview build."
  • Bit Maiden[]: "So if you just love to hack and slash everything that crosses in front of you or, more generally, fast-paced games with lots of eccentric enemies and skills, you must try it. ASAP."

The guys at Analog Addiction[] included Second Chance Heroes in a pair of articles this week. First, they listed us among some hefty company as one of Five Steam Greenlight Games That Deserve Your Vote[].

They followed that up with an interview they conducted with Lead Game Designer Dana Massey and Creative Director Josh Drescher[].

Analog Addiction: SCH’s characters’ entertainment value make it different to other dungeon crawlers. Was this your aim when creating it? To create a more entertaining game over a serious crawler like, say Diablo?

Dana: We wanted to make a game that was both fun and funny. In our view, a lot of games have come to take themselves way too seriously. I prefer games that just do what they need to do to keep me entertained. Video game worlds are not bound by the laws of the real world, nor should they be. It’s just as easy for us to create a sentient cheeseburger as it is a spider, so why make another game where you fight spiders for 20 hours?

The good folks at Greenlit Gaming took in Beta Weekend #3 and provided this preview of Second Chance Heroes.

The devs have done a fantastic job thus far and the final product should reek of brilliance. I’m not blowing smoke about this one folks, if you haven’t already voted for it on Greenlight, please do so immediately. Games like these do not come around very often and this is definitely something that the world needs to enjoy.

Grab your cutlass and pour yourself a mug of refreshing grog, because it's Friday and that means it's time to unveil a new playable hero! We're pleased to say "Ahoy!" to Blackbeard!

Blackbeard is the third melee character announced for our game. He hits a wide area with his trusty sword, but also can use his ghostly anchor to gain a strategic advantage. It pulls enemies in to him, stunning them there, which can both help him pile them up for that sword of his or save a friend in peril when the need arises.

Head over to his bio page and learn how he'll help you make evil walk the plank![]

And stay tuned next week when we reveal another hero!
