@Swebdank Not sure how I didn't see your comment til this evening, but I don't know whether or not your suggestion is entirely reasonable. The reason helmets are invisible is because of a wearloc position that doesn't render correctly with the mesh. It's a weird bug that is being abused. Testing would be required to see if there were other such wearlocs that could be abused or risk stacking armour infinitely. You're welcome to try it if you like, but that content is not in my interest and requires an awful lot of work (there are a lot of armours after all).

it would be really cool if you did the same thing with armors so it would be possible to have defence but wear normal clothes

Works like a dream for me (Using a Daedric Helm)

It's been a long time since I tested the mod so it's possible that I missed a helmet that was potentially broken. Have you tried any of the other helmets, and are you using a custom hair mod?

The invisbile helmet worked but it basically cuts off part of my characters hair, making him bald near the top of his head. Anyone else have this issue?

It could be done theoretically by adding them into some of the levelled loot lists probably.

Going to give this a try as I love the idea, I looked at the other "no Helmet" Mods but they made all helmets invisable

Or was it the archmage armor and the dragon priest helms, I can't remember anymore.

I didn't alter the Dark Brotherhood's shroud. If you are referring to stacking an invisible helm with their helmet, then this is likely the problem. When you stack helms with other helms, funny stuff happens. A legit example is the archmage's armor and the falmer helmet. I don't know exactly why, and I couldn't tell you either. But I'd bet it has to do with the renderer being confused as to what to render. This mod works by using an unused slot within the renderer. Meaning that it "shouldn't" render itself, largely because the slot is unused. Using other helmets however forces the game to render something and possibly corrects my unused slot abuse. I haven't noticed any problems with "circlets" but more visible helms are likely to encounter problems. I highly recommend you do not stack helmets.

Nevermind, I guess it does work but it's really buggy, it only showed up after I reloaded my save. Might just be a game bug.

Not quite sure if this is due to this mod, but the Dark Brotherhood shroud is invisible and takes off my Argonian's feathers. Didn't o do this for my human or Argonian follower.

Okay, just back and will check it out.... thanks Lajos
Lajos  [ophavsmand] 5. mar. 2012 kl. 15:28
Well I think I fixed it with a side benefit of no longer allowing invisible helmets to stack with each other. They still stack with other helmets though; I really don't recommend doing that though.

It *is* a khajit thing, probably something to do with their ears. Tempting to make another mod just for the khajit, because it is common across the open-faced helms. I'll see what I can do with it though. Check back tomorrow, or at least in a few hours.
ga19 5. mar. 2012 kl. 13:25
Thanks, I checked, and it works on my human companion (lydia) - must be a Khajiit thing.
Lajos  [ophavsmand] 5. mar. 2012 kl. 13:09
It's probably a functionality conflict. I don't remember if I tested them with the Khajit. I know I tested the Argonians though. I'll look into it.
ga19 5. mar. 2012 kl. 12:56
Hi, tried crafting an invisible scaled, but all that happens when I wear it is that my Khajiit ears poke through a very visible helmet - not sure why... does it require a new game start? don't think im using any other helmet mods, and definitely not stacking helms. look forward to getting it working. thanks.

I love this. Thank you!
necrodefy 18. feb. 2012 kl. 8:52
awesome, was really wanting a mod that did this!
Ghizguth 11. feb. 2012 kl. 15:29
Awesome! Many thanks!
Lajos  [ophavsmand] 11. feb. 2012 kl. 12:30
Fixed.

No, I'm not stacking multiple helmets, circlets or anything else on my head. If I put on an invisible helmet, it works fine, visually and on the armor stat's. With other helmets, who are thus not invisible, it gets weird. Fullface helmets, like those of the guards in Whiterun, show up correctly, but helmets that show part of a character's face, like simple leather helmets, don't. At least, that how I experienced it. If you need anything else, I would happily give you more information.

I didn't experiment with characters other than the Dragonborn, but I never anticipated that problem; it is only craftable. I don't believe I editted any of the base archetypes, only added new ones. I'll check into that. However, I have to ask, you're not stacking the helmets are you? The invisible helmets tend to stack easily with others, hence their vulnerability to funky business.
Ghizguth 11. feb. 2012 kl. 3:00
Hello! Thanks for the mod, works great on the Dragonborn. Sadly, some of the "normal" helmets (like the horned steel helmet) do not show up as they show anymore and leave my character, my follower and some bandits with a bold head if they wear them.

Thanks, but if I were truly amazing I would have found a way to limit the exploitability. Leave that to the graphics artists I guess.
Dregaunis 10. feb. 2012 kl. 20:31
Beat me to it, you are amazing!
Yogi Chesterton 10. feb. 2012 kl. 6:37
:D thanks!
