I like the art style and animations. The circular UI is nice as well. Definitely would like to see more actual gameplay though, and neither the whole trailer, or the screenshots shows a whole lot of it.

@Vurahn: This is a very good post. Thank you. We are still making lots of changes.
SondreD Jan 6, 2017 @ 7:19pm
cosy, voted yes :) i have definately seen worse here

......ugh......yes absolutely
Vurahn Jan 5, 2017 @ 10:57pm
I guess I'll be "that guy"; to be the one in saying the resolution doesnt bother me. I dont mind it at all; my monitor is a brick anyway.

But god damn, everything moves waaaaaay too slow; the characters, the combat; everything is slow; where is the action in this "action RPG"? Also, was the token moronic AI ally character that only gets in the way and never helps really necessary?

The visuals are good but thats its only saving grace. The gameplay itself moves far too sluggishly to be considered engaging. Speed it up; make it feel like an ACTION-rpg as you claim it to be. Until then, I'll pass.

@Cephrien: Yes, the game soundtrack is a mix between upbeat tracks and emotional melancholic music.

@Kaffeeware Чувак, если нужена будет озвучка и перевод (украинский, русский) — я с радостью помогу, чем смогу!

@skull_trumpet.gif: I'm not lying. Save one of the screenshots to your PC. Then, open it on any image manipulation software and zoom it. It won't look blurry.
skull_trumpet.gif Jan 5, 2017 @ 12:26am
"The game won't looked blurry or would lack definition."

Why are you lying? The screenshots here, not even blown up to full-screen size, are blurry and lack definition.
Cephrien Jan 4, 2017 @ 11:50pm
Only if the game has a sick soundtrack like the beat used in the trailer.
Cyorir Jan 4, 2017 @ 8:02pm
It looks about as generic as RPGs come. Before I could upvote it, I would want to know what is unique about this RPG in particular.
HoldMyHalo Jan 4, 2017 @ 7:08pm
I wanted to vote yes, but 240x160 is an impossibly small resolution for a computer game now. I like the art a lot, it's very pretty, and I like the nostalgic feel of it, but there are ways to represent that without putting out a super small resolution game. Best of luck!
Kaffeeware  [author] Jan 4, 2017 @ 6:51pm
@PerditionBovine: We will look into it.
SaberViper Jan 4, 2017 @ 4:25pm
From reading the comments I've gathered this;

Dev: We put our game on the GBA and now when we put the game on PC we can/won't consider even upscaling to a PC resolution, so we're just going to jam our fingers in our ears and pretend we don't hear people complaining about the resolution and we hope everything will go well.

I wish you the best of luck but there's no way I can be bothered to play a GBA resolution game on my PC, the GBA is a mobile platform and the screen was a limitation so it can be forgiven for the resolution issue. My PC is static and has a giant monitor, so it stands to good reason I want to play a game that has the proper resolution for it.
Kaffeeware  [author] Jan 4, 2017 @ 2:15pm
@Sandi: The game will e compatible with joystick. Anything with 6+ buttons will do. The development is going slow, but steady.

@Sputnik: Thank you! :)

@azirphaeli:Thank you for voicing your concerns, but please don't compare this game to titles like Owldboy. Owlboy took 9 years, to make! HLD had a budget of half a million dollars. This game is in a much lower scale.

@ rivasm95: Thank you. You will see even more similarities to SOE soon!

@Don-AS: Thank you!

@In Boke R: Thank you!

Пару предложений о игре:
Реализация идеи пришлась мне по нраву и я проголосовал за — всё элементарно! И надеюсь автор подарит ключик другой, когда игра выйдет...

Зелёный свет, чуваки! ♥

Reminds me to Secret Of Evermore, wonderful game!
azirphaeli Jan 4, 2017 @ 9:51am
"The neu-pixel art you often encounter in indie games nowadays is not what we are aiming for."

Yet there's a reason that owl-boy has made GOTY lists and is well adorned among gamers, and everyone here is trying to stop you from making your choice. At the end of the day, your game won't help you or anyone if you can't get it up for sale.
Sputnik Jan 4, 2017 @ 8:58am
like it
skull_trumpet.gif Jan 4, 2017 @ 8:34am
"The game look like it does because IT IS an actual gba game."

Just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should.
Sandi Jan 4, 2017 @ 6:29am
you get my vote! :steamhappy:
I look forward to the see how the game will look finished.

Will it be compatible with joystick?
How is the development going?
deepFr0sty Jan 3, 2017 @ 11:55pm
I don't think gimping your game to gba specs for the sake of nostalgia is a good idea. Especialy when you force the tiny resolution on us, and espectially when you mention genesis and snes. 'cause, you know, the consoles had a bigger res than the gba. Why not have the option to change the resolution?

Anyway, looking at your game... the trailer hardly enticed me to be honest. One area, mostly combat, and partner ai settings, which is the only distinctive aspect of your game aside from the effects of the day/night cycles.

The visuals/animations could also be better, and if you're gonna use the limitations of hardware from back then as an excuse, then look up 'gekido advance' or 'minish cap' on youtube.

At the very least, you should seriously consider implementing an option to change resolution. It would make a lot of people happy.
Kaffeeware  [author] Jan 3, 2017 @ 9:07pm
Thank you for everyone who had commented and or voted. Your feedback is very valuable. The Steam community had been the most honest and straightforward from all the communities we had encountered.

Regarding the resolution, it not something that will change.Rodas Cross is intended for those 16_bit era game lovers. People who loved their Megadrives, the is Snes, etc. The neu-pixel art you often encounter in indie games nowadays is not what we are aiming for. The game look like it does because IT IS an actual gba game. Same reason why we don't have many sprites on the screen at once. Granted, the art style of this title is rather simple. But so was the art of games like Pokemon back in the day.
Hopefully, Steam is big enough for lovers of all styles of games.

That said, the there will definitely be more variety in the game regarding environments. There will be towns, snowy areas, etc.

Once again, thank you for everyone who had stopped in this little corner of the internet.
azirphaeli Jan 3, 2017 @ 7:46pm
Look, we get that you intend to have people play a low res game on a large TV or monitor, but just because you intend something doesn't mean it's a good idea. Now is a time to rethink your decision, you've seen what most of the comments have said regarding the resolution.. consider changing your plans.
PolyHertz Jan 3, 2017 @ 7:05pm
I like the GBA aesthetic, and the weapon-wheel. Also, props on writing a game engine from scratch in C++ for it. That said, the battle system looks too basic atm, and the art needs more variety.
Alpha17x Jan 3, 2017 @ 6:55pm
Your trailer is incredibly bad. The game might very well be good but you should re-work your trailer. 'Our game has an inventory wheel, please vote for it' is what I got out of that.
Jesus H. Christ Jan 3, 2017 @ 6:41pm
The gameplay doesn't look terrible, and it's an rpg not made in rpgmaker. You get points for that. Graphics need serious improvement.
skull_trumpet.gif Jan 3, 2017 @ 6:34pm
"This will look like how an emulated GBA game looks on an HD-TV."

Why would you do this? 16-bit games can look awesome, yet you actively choose to make your product inferior. Mind-boggling.

Nice! You get my vote!
Kaffeeware  [author] Jan 3, 2017 @ 5:13pm
@ t.p.rj: No, this is made in an unique engine using c++. Thanks for the question.

RPG Maker?

@veebles :(
@tactualsoup: Thank you! I'm trying to create a new Secret of Mana with this. :)
@Belsnickel: Thank you for stopping by.
@Ruin N Gaun: It's supossed to play like an nes/snes action-rpg. Thank you for the feedback.
Ruin N Gaun Jan 3, 2017 @ 3:54pm
The combat seems slow and boring, the UI is not that great either. Nope
PriNcE oF SpAcE Jan 3, 2017 @ 3:43pm

I never said you were tricking anyone. I'm just saying I would never want to play this sort of thing on my PC.
Kaffeeware  [author] Jan 3, 2017 @ 12:34pm
@Dark Ghost: Thank you so much! It really means a lot.

@azirphaeli: -Yes, it is "zoomed" because the game runs on the natural GBA resolution, 240x160. We are not trying to trick anyone. This will NOT be an HD game. This will look like how an emulated GBA game looks on an HD-TV. Hopefully the graphic are charming enough to compensate.

-The gameplay is kind of slow, because your supposed to be keeping an eye on your partner at all times. So you will be doing two things at once at any given time, for most of the game.

Thank you for everyone who have voted so far!
Skoardy Jan 3, 2017 @ 12:31pm
Sorry, but I don't want to play a 240x160 GBA resolution game on my PC.
azirphaeli Jan 3, 2017 @ 11:54am
Looks way too zoomed in and slow paced for my tastes.
