If additional playtesters are needed, feel free to add me on Steam.
Pathborn  [author] Jan 15, 2020 @ 10:58am
no estimate. definitely *will* be released, and i still actively (though slowly, part-time) work on it, and there are testers playtesting it who have access to it, and the offer to add more playtesters is still open, but i can't really give a release date estimate. best i can say would be either late 2020, 2021, or 2022
Zach Jordan Jan 14, 2020 @ 9:22pm
Hi, this is a little late, but any updates on if/when it's being released?

Pathborn  [author] Apr 28, 2016 @ 12:16pm
the game was just greenlit. i'll try to get a release in late 2016 but no promises, early 2017 is probably more likely.
lepy_od Apr 5, 2016 @ 5:07am
Certainly one of the most intriguing, inspiring & beautiful video game projects this side of the galaxy.

Intriguing enough to upvote.
Hope this game will provide a unique experience when finished.
I like both sound and art styles.
Good luck!

This is weird and GREAT!!

You know subconsciously that the gameplay is a bit too basic. This isn't going to be your magnus opus.
Don't let this become "paul no geimu". Release it and move on.
lostchild14000 Feb 26, 2016 @ 4:05am
Im actually quite skilled in video production. Only recently have i really began to see my skills increase, but even as an amature, i could condense a story from several movie clips into a trailer. And that took me like a day, maybe?
lostchild14000 Feb 26, 2016 @ 4:00am
Also, for gamer non-credentials, i like space flight sims, and open sand boxes ranging from zelda I to Farcry (both of which i have played to the true end). Im not asking that you make a game that follows a strict path, only that its promotion to be more straight forward than what you have now.
lostchild14000 Feb 26, 2016 @ 3:53am
Fair enough. I shall save further praise and/or criticism off untill later. Please note that my frustration and indignation were toward the 7 minute long video (which neither teased a story, nor did it show off refined game-play).
Pathborn  [author] Feb 24, 2016 @ 2:00pm
@lostchild14000 - lastly, if you read the comments other than yours, you'd see that most people seem positive about the game. so i do think the 'marketing' campaign as you put it is working, on average, for a lot of the people here. that said, if you are curious about my previous games, you could try to pick up 'immortal defense' on steam. you can get a taste of what my games are like from that (if you don't want to buy it, you can always watch a let's play of it or something, or wait for it to be on sale for a few dollars).

i definitely did not mean to give the impression that i think making a trailer that explains the game is a waste of time; i think it'd be a good use of time. but i think you might underestimate the time they take. i still plan on doing it, just not *immediately*. expect it in the next few months.
Pathborn  [author] Feb 24, 2016 @ 1:48pm
@lostchild14000 - i think you misunderstand the purpose of the video. its purpose is to present parts of the game that the player is supposed to think about, to figure out. it's not a trailer, it's a teaser. it wasn't created for greenlight, it's for people who are waiting for it to be finished it, to show what i have been working on. i just used it here because it was the latest video i had available, because i didn't have a few weeks to make a new trailer.

the game is intended to appeal to people who like confusing games, to people who like to figure things out without a guide. if this sounds like it might not be your type of game, that's okay, there people who don't want to know everything about a game before playing it, and people who do.
Pathborn  [author] Feb 24, 2016 @ 1:48pm
@lostchild14000 - well, the parts of the game not shown in the video do exist, they just aren't as presentable in video format: they're playable, but not visually complete. there is still some sprites and artwork assets that need to be finished. i don't want to show them with placeholder graphics.

lostchild14000 Feb 22, 2016 @ 10:13am
(3) it looks great!!!

Your biggest problem is your biggest selling point. I see the trailer and the art style and the screen shots and i want to play this game. I want to roam the swamps, i want to defend the place from infestations of radio active insects, I WANT TO EXPERIENCE THIS WORLD! It looks like a cross between heavy metal and pan's labyrinth
i watch the demonstration/trailer and it lets me down completely. Im confused, im left wondering whats really going on. (Instead of that awe struck feeling of wanting more). And i know for a fact that i am not alone.

Youre not making this trailer for me any more than youre making this game for me.

Im part of your audience and im trying to help you, so don't slag me off as a waste of your time

lostchild14000 Feb 22, 2016 @ 10:12am
(1)MAKE AN ENTIRE DEMO OR BETA FIRST, then make a trailer baised on artwork, story bits, & choice clips and screen shots from the demo or near finnished product. This will tell us what to expect and how much work was put in to the product.

(2) youre making a trailer.

Do not make a 7 minute long video of something roaming around an overworld, with maybe a total of 30 seconds of cool stuff in it.

Do put 10 second clips of wandering around and showing off the world and art style
Do put more interesting bits in, like swerving around with lightsabers attached to the craft
Do show awesome levels
Do have some idea of what to show and get the visual clips from select levels
Do take a single day to edit it
Do tell us more about whats going on, and who youre comunicating with
lostchild14000 Feb 22, 2016 @ 10:11am
So, am I supposed to think that you just made the game up to this over-world and then put it directly out on Steam?
lostchild14000 Feb 22, 2016 @ 10:09am
Let me put it this way then:

look, the game actually looks like it has promise and the art style alone is amazing. I would buy these as alternate covers to sci fi novels or heavy metal magazine cartoons, BUT YOUR MARKETTING CAMPAIGN IS A JOKE!

Speaking as an indie developer, and a youtube video editor, and as an animator, need i go on? it doesn't take weeks to shoot and edit a single 3 minute video. The video you have presented here is (once again very pretty, like i wish i could snort it off the screen like visaul cocain) (a)too long (b) VERY MINIMALIST in terms of game play and (c)doesnt tell what your game is about or the actions that are going on at all.

I think there were moving trees near the end, and giant bugs... maybe there was a bit where lasers came out of the hovercraft...

The thing that takes weeks to complete is designing and implementing a game.
Pathborn  [author] Feb 22, 2016 @ 8:45am
@lostchild14000 - yes, i do plan on doing that when i get time. but realize that making a trailer is a long process; this trailer took me weeks to make, and to make another would take another few weeks of recording footage and selecting the best parts and editing it together. that's time i could be spending on the game. and many of the parts you mention are the parts of the game that aren't yet complete, and wouldn't look good currently in video or screenshots. that's a lot of work for just your one vote (and the others who feel the same as you). when i get some free time, and when those parts of the game are more presentable visually, i will definitely do that though.
lostchild14000 Feb 17, 2016 @ 6:22pm
Yeah, i kind of see that... but the trailer consists of a ship, or weird hybrid jelly fish floating around a forest of some kind. I didn't really see any missions, or challenge or story, just a scifi exploration of some fantastic place.

Please make a more direct, and less ambiguous, trailer. Show some of the focused game play or story or the dungeons, and less of the non-linear map. You could have established the over world with about 30 seconds of exploration... lets move on.

My own vote (and something tells me a lot of other votes too) is at "ask me again later". Post new screen shots or a new trailer that clears up the confusion, and fucusses more on the fun or the story. You obviously put a lot of work into this, so it should be easy to show the epic tale that you have written
Pathborn  [author] Feb 17, 2016 @ 12:33pm
@lostchild14000 - it's a 2D, top-down "zelda-like" sci-fi game.
lostchild14000 Feb 16, 2016 @ 5:42pm
what is this???
Jean-Yves Feb 8, 2016 @ 6:57am
This developer and his pals created one of the most surprising and engaging game I have played. The use of the story and narration in the game is fantastic, and of course, today I want more of this excellence!

These are some of the most video game ass video game noises I've ever heard
ACWraith Feb 3, 2016 @ 2:13pm
Cool! I've wondered what happened to this. :steamhappy:

glad to see this being finished after all these years
暁のヨナ Jan 29, 2016 @ 5:21pm
Looks pretty nice overall, but I'm not really sure how the gameplay works. Some better info on that in the video would be great!
Pathborn  [author] Jan 29, 2016 @ 3:28pm
@rabidabid thanks! i actually at first intended to add the game's music to the video, but found it worked so well without music that i was reluctant to add it. i do quite like the music a lot too though (on youtube there's a video called something like 'saturated dreamers music sampler' if anyone is curious about the game's soundtrack style).
rabidabid Jan 29, 2016 @ 3:22pm
nice sound design

@thelastmonte - yeah, i do plan on making a better video of the game eventually, i feel that this video is probably too confusing. thanks!
thelastmonte Jan 29, 2016 @ 9:28am
That video is really long. Some of the graphics in it looks poor and some looked strange in a good way. I'll vote for it.
