on my side all of the different colors are the checker pattern. what do i do? i have the required items

Yes, simply look at the Required Items and make sure you have them, restart gmod, and then you can drive the car. It will be in the Q menu under Vehicles. To change the skin hold C and right click the car, go to skins, and choose the correct skin.
