Thanks for the comments everyone! We're working on an update video, blog post, and we'll be attending some conventions here in the future. So hopefully you can stop by and try out the game!

@FerrousBueller: You'd be surprised how big of a deal it can be just to change how a game is presented. I remember this one space-themed game; the premise was that you were a ship on an orbital "grid" wrapped around a planet, somewhat reminiscent of the orbital layer in Planetary Annihilation (although the game was released long before PA). It was just a basic schmup, but somehow, the 3d-appearance made it a lot more interesting than it would have been if it was just 2d.
PeggleFrank Sep 14, 2016 @ 5:40am
The main difference I can think of is that there's wrap-around for multiple planes in that game, which makes the whole experience a lot more fluid and free-form. Railgun seems to be quite similar. There's wrap-around in one plane, and asteroids and other hazards are always above you. The result is that you can change your distance from an obstacle horizontally, but not vertically. I don't really know what this means for the game, but it's interesting at least, and I'm sure it makes more sense once you're playing the game.

It's a basic change in concept, but in practice, it really can make the difference. For a game that has such a simple core concept, making it unique both in gameplay and in player feedback is imperative to keeping an entertaining experience and not boring the player to death.

It is possible, we are a small (like miniature) team. Our first priority is to deliver a high quality, fast paced, semi-casual game for the PC/Steam. If we find success we will certainly be considering other platforms.

your welcome.

About my question, are you planning a Linux or SteamOS build?

On your first point, When playing the game, the 3d perspective adds a lot in the way of visual aethetic and design capability (note the city defenses). Yes the gameworld's active space is effectively a 2d cylinder, the 3d space allows a lot to be done. Just wait for the bosses!

On your second point, though it seems like it would be harder to see whats happeneing, its very intuitive and does nothing to hurt the gameplay. In final versions we will also do lighting passes to ensure that the objects of interest are easily recognizeable.
FerrousBueller Sep 8, 2016 @ 7:22am
I don't see how the 3D perspective adds anything to what is, essentially, a 2D game. It just makes it harder to see what's going on.
FerrousBueller Sep 8, 2016 @ 7:21am
So it's really a 2D game, but mapped onto the surface of a cylinder?

Played this at Gameacon. The game rocks! Get this on Steam right now! Old school goodness meets new school perspective and graphics. The controls are tight and the jumping mechanic is a nice touch to breathe new life into the shooter / defender genre.
Numzy Sep 2, 2016 @ 6:00pm
