It is intentional, you can move around in L4D1 using a timed button.
You usually aren't interested in doing so since your progress resets if you don't remain looking at the button.

It should. In L4D1 you have to directly point your crosshair on the button to progress, but due to the button logic in L4D2 using the indirect USE logic I had to recreate L4D2's USE logic. It's imperfect, but it works for now.

This first-person button logic combined with your ability to still run around during usage does fit with the terror aspect L4D1 emphasized.

This looks very cool and i'm glad you ported it over! But i do understand why Valve didn't use this, because when camera goes thirdperson it really helps you see more of your surroundings and save yourself from special infected.
