It is a lie. People don't hate this game because a woman made it, people hate this game because it's poorly developed, has no effort put into it, and misinforms players about depression.
The developer herself is also known for driving the head developer of Night in the Woods to suicide by accusing him of assault without any proper evidence which there is proof of her doing. That only intensified the hatred.
It starts off as pretty "meh" and I skimmed some of it, but I honestly have to admit, once that kitten came into my life, I was actually quietly cheering myself (even a fist-pump, man,) and the more I play, the more I think it really demonstrates how living with depression, or perhaps a similar situation can be a struggle. I kind of purposely played in a more motivated direction, but there were times where I was literally stumped as to what option would be "right", and there are moments in the game that reminded me of my own days where I surprise my own expectations about myself.
I heard the creator of this faced some cruelty over the simplicity of the game, but honestly, the gameplay isn't exactly far from being classified as a similar genre to that of "Long Live The Queen".
take the fork out of your ass and stop
Electrical engineering is pretty smart.
Theory of Relativity? It's pretty fuckin' smart.
Using an interactive fiction computer game to teach people about clinical depression?
FUCKING
GENIUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUS
I will also check out your game once it's on Steam. :)
And i'm unbelieveably disgusted by the hatred of a minority of my gender and the gamer community towards her game and i would wholeheartly love the chance to kick these bastards in the ... if only to enhance their miserable life. Just disgusting.
I work closely with elements of the mental health community and this may be a useful tool to aid family and friends in understanding what people with depression as well as the people suffering from depression themselves deal with (as sometimes understanding it yourself can sometimes be a major part in dealing with it)
Writing this as a thumbs up to show my support at not only making this (honestly you guys must have anticipated some flak from the get go...although maybe not in the form you received), but sticking to your guns and not removing the game from steam.
