Trail Fix (HW2Classic)

Açıklama
This is a simple mod that fixes the engine trails that are broken in Homeworld 2 Classic from Homeworld Remastered Collection Edition (exemple of the bug in the first screenshot with Vaygr scouts).

All trails should be fixed including but not limited to
  • Fighters
  • Ressource Collectors
  • Corvettes
  • Missiles

Compatibility

This mod should also be compatible with other mods, confirmed to work with :

Launch parameters exemple
  • With the remastered launcher (see screenshot above).
  • Shortcut with local mods :
    C:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Homeworld\Homeworld2Classic\Bin\Release\Homeworld2.exe -mod [someothermod.big],TrailFix.big -hardwarecursor -w 1920 -h 1080 -refresh 60
  • Shortcut with workshop mods :
    C:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Homeworld\Homeworld2Classic\Bin\Release\Homeworld2.exe -mod TrailFix.big -workshopmod 76561197964090010\399389937\ComplexEnhanced881.big -hardwarecursor -w 1920 -h 1080 -refresh 60

Thanks

Thanks to the Howeworld modding community for the online ressources and discussions that helped to figure this out.

Insight

There is actually only a single override file :
Data\effect\trails\trail_ribbon.rot
I couldn't get a working .ROT extractor to see what's wrong with the base file and couldn't clearly compare it either.
There is HEX differences but a .ROT Viewer doesn't show any visible difference that could explain the issue.

Hopefully Gearbox will fix this in a future patch, meanwhile we can now enjoy again HW2 Classic mods with working trails.

I just bought the game. Glad someone made a fix for this. However, I can't seem to get it working. When I launch from the Mod Launcher (Steam), the game either fails to start, or it boots up HW2 Remastered. I tried moving the mod file to the Data folder like Red Fox said, no luck. I tried to make a shortcut with the mod parameters, but it also failed to start. Have there been recent updates to the game that might have broken this? Or maybe I'm just bad with mods, lol.

For non-steam users, some people made a standalone version of this mod, check the Gearbox forum here : https://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/t/trail-fix-mod-for-homeworld-2-classic/378787/12

hi VortiK - do you have any plan to make this fix available for non-steam owners of the game? since HWRM is now available through also other well-known digital retailer, it would be nice to let people download it from moddb

Wish I'd noticed this before but you have to open up the Workshop Mods folder inside the Homeworld2Classic folder (in your Steamapps location) to find the mod. I copied the file to the Data folder and it worked. Thank you so much for this fix!

@VortiK I tried unsubscribing and subscribing but it did not work. I have looked under HW2 Classic.
