OVERDRILL Guide

Ever wanted to have a go at the PAYDAY secret - the OVERDRILL? Perhaps you are a bit unsure of what to do. If that's the case though, this guide has been written to help.

Rules and rumors

There are very few rules, and some are just rumors; below I've adressed what I believe are the most regular ones.

Masks and difficulty

After patch 21, the PAYDAY secret can be done on any difficulty, with any mask. If you want to do it on easy with your infected mask, while your friend uses his santa mask, you can do that. It'll work. The time required for the drill on any difficulty below Overkill 145+ has also been lowered from 7200 seconds (2 hours) to 2000 seconds (33 minutes).

Camera rules

In the first area, which is before the drill, it is completely safe to destroy each and every camera. Doing so won't affect your OVERDRILL run in any way! In the second area, which is past the drilled gate, the only cameras that needs to be intact are the four in the elevator room. This rule applies until the secret has been triggered. After this it is completely safe to destroy all cameras, and again it will not affect your run.

Bank manager

It is completely safe to kill the bank manager, if you want to save some time by killing him, go ahead. If you want to keep him as a hostage, then go ahead and do that as well. Your choice won't affect your OVERDRILL run.





Drillmaster behind the desk

Once you get to the vault hallway, many belive it is required for the crew member with the drill to stand behind the desk. This is incorrect. Any crew member may stand in whatever spot they please, and the secret will still trigger.

Step 1: Triggering the secret

Obviously the most vital part of your entire OVERDRILL run, triggering the secret.

When the drill is done, head on into the vault hallway. But keep in mind, do not destroy any of the four cameras in the hallway! Alright, we're in the vault hallway, we've taken out the guards. Now what? Now we trigger the secret. If you still are fighting an assault wave, and you're on hard or above, I suggest you wait out the assault wave before attempting to trigger the secret.

When you're set to take your spots and trigger the secret, here's what to do.
This is a static that was revealed as the community was still working on cracking the secret. If you have a look, there's 8 squares, 4 arrows and some text saying "MURUA X". The text is mostly irrelevant, what you want to pay attention to is the squares and the arrows. The squares represent the pillars in the vault haullway, the arrows represent the players. I like using X as the desk in the hallway. What you want to do now is to line up like the arrows, one crew member stands behind the desk, another one is by the entrance looking at the man over at the desk. One crew member stands between the last two pillars in the hallway to the right of the member behind the desk, looking over to the elevator shaft on the opposite side. By the elevator shaft is the final member, who is to look down the hallway at a wall.

The secret won't always trigger right away, which is explained here, so fidget around your spot a bit, stand still and fidget about some more until you hear a C4 beep. The right side of the desk in the hallway will now flash red.

At this point, I'd recommend pouring out the thermite, but don't jump into the vault when it's done. You'll do that as you complete the rest of the heist.

Step 2: Drilling the gate

You've triggered the secret, great! Now head over to where the thermite is to be poured, you'll find a gate with a drill placement.

Set the drill in place, all that there is now is keeping the cops at bay, and waiting. The OVERDRILL takes 2000 seconds to finish on any difficulty but Overkill 145+, where it takes 7200 seconds. 2000 seconds is 33 minutes, while 7200 seconds is 2 hours.

On any other difficulty than Overkill 145+, you shouldn't need to camp. If you do decide to go for what I like to call OVERDRILL 145+ you might want to camp in the alcoves at the vault hallway's entrance. There's four of them for you to drop your bags and settle down in. Now it's just a matter of waiting and killing a couple of cops.

After the drill has been set in place, it is completely safe to destroy all cameras, destroying the hallway cameras only ruins your go at the secret if you do so before the drill is in place. So go ahead and destroy the cameras, they'll only keep the cops away!

Step 3: The tile puzzle

The wait is over, the gate has opened! Before you is now a vault door and a tiled floor. The floor is the key to opening the vault.

Over by the end of the tiled floor, there is a set of interactive tiles, which serve as the code lock for the OVERVAULT. There is sadly a catch to all of this, though. If you get a single tile wrong, deadly gas will be released into the room, and your run at the secret is over. Better luck next time!

But you want the OVERVAULT to open, though. To make this happen you need to push down six of the tiles. The white squares represents the interactive tiles, the red ones are which tiles you need to push in order to open the OVERVAULT. Remember that there is a white outline around each interactive tile, which aren't completely accurate. Have a good look before pressing one down!

If and when you have pushed all the correct tiles down the OVERVAULT will open.

Step 4: The OVERVAULT

Congratulations! You successfully triggered the secret and waited out the time for the drill to finish, and you completed the tile puzzle.

You will recieve the OVERDRILL achievement, and inside the OVERVAULT there is gold enough for around 75,000 XP total, with a money-boosting crew bonus, you'll get around 85,000 XP. This should bump you up a few levels. During christmas in 2012, there was also a present inside the OVERVAULT, which granted you the santa masks.

And don't forget the mentions on the walls in the OVERVAULT, these are people who have contributed majorly to solving the secret, or just finished OVERDRILL 145+ before the deadline. Of course there are more than the ones listed inside that have done this, though.

Step 5: Complete the heist

If you poured out the thermite after triggering the secret, jump down into the vault, grab the cash and finish the heist. If you haven't poured out the thermite, do so and wait for it to finish. Then jump down, grab the cash and escape.

If you've already done the original vault, great. Hightail it out of there with all the cash!

When you've escaped, all I can say is congratulations! You've just completed your first run at the PAYDAY secret, the OVERDRILL.
