Destiny 2's Mars location will soon be gone, so in an effort to save one of my favorite destinations I decided to recreate it from scratch in Hammer!
This was the most tedious 200 hours of my life, dealing with errors, crashes, and anything else this two decade old mapmaking tool could throw at me.
But it's finally done.
I wished to recreate the entire playable Mars area (i.e. Glacial Drift, Mindlab, Alton Dynamo), however noting the strict brush count this would simply be impossible. Instead, I settled for the majority of the Braytech Futurescape.
Although this map is labelled as ttt_, I should mention this just means it features various random weapon and ammo spawns, so although it is built for the gamemode, sandbox is equally fun.

Please take note, this is a recreation--not a replica;
Anyone who has used Hammer knows just how painful it can be, but basically a lot of corners had to be cut. One of the most notable parts is in that nook that leads to the lost sector; The "various hive corruption" in the area had to be removed entirely due to the displacements becoming too complex.
Also, D2 has dubious ways of measuring (DARCI, Chest distance markers, etc) and no real way of getting concrete numbers, as such, 90% of the map was recreated purely by eyeballing. (This is noticeable by the area south of the docks near the trains, as although it looks funky in my recreation, it should technically match up with measurements made in D2. Also, the player sizes/viewheights are different between games, which can be infuriating).

Some fun errors:
-Going over the brushface count. (The engine's max is ~65k, at the map's worst it was ~115k)
-Attempting to convert stuff to Propper models ended up making some sections break.
-Many of the exterior sections match up, yet for some reason the interior of the main building messes up. I'm convinced theres some 4 dimensional bs going on, but who knows.
-The map goes entirely pitch black when I had lighting (You may note the actual .bsp has a "_fullbright" suffix. It may look slightly worse than if it had normal lighting, but at least you can actually see lul).
-There was an invisible displacement somehow as a func_detail. Hammer dislikes this, and so I had to destroy all displacements to solve it.

Anyhow, it's finally done, at least only a week past my deadline.
I hope you all enjoy!
(Who knows, perhaps I will make more D2 destinations :) ).

Serious time:
This is probably the first thing I've spent decent time and effort on. I take pride in my work. Do not redistribute or reupload. If you feature this anywhere, give credit.

I just want to thank you, again, for preserving Mars, I just remembered this existed an hour ago, and found that you even included the closed off room in the corner of the lost sector west hallway entrance.

I once got into a glitched instance of Braytech Futurescape that had no NPCs players or interactable objects loaded, the room that would normally be closed off was entirely open, I spent a good while in there and had shadowplay running, but that harddrive is long lost by now.

Didn't think I'd cry to be seeing a little easter egg of sorts, ever, but, I miss Mars, this much. T_T

yea, it's just fullbright. i've attempted some troubleshooting but to no avail. in theory it should all be working, but it's likely some anomalous object somewhere that i dont have the time to find and remove :conwayshrug:

You know what would be amazing, if a map in the Solarium would be possible, because frankly that area is beautiful, and it's such a shame that it has to go away.
