@Quazar yes I usually stretch up this type of geometry. Makes much easier to pack uv and you can apply uv projection later. For example here metal frame part was stratched into vertical UV island and then i used Anisotropic procedural inside Painter

very late to comment on this obviously but the brushwork on the metal attachment is super nice, how was that done? Is the UV itself straight, or something else? I always have a heck of a time doing patterns with radial symmetry, I'd love to know!
