Guide Contents
This guide is meant to cover the basics of Hell Girls and provide some tips & tricks that can be used to win the game.

However due to time constraints, for now I'm going to do a quick write-up on the achievements.

A Warning about Spoilers

I don't think there's much about the game to spoil. The storyline itself is very weak and beyond the scope of this guide. However do note that this guide is written in an open-book style without any spoiler tags. As such if you haven't played the game yet - or only just a little - prepare to discover things that are bound to happen in the game. As I've already said, I wouldn't consider these spoiers, since these are mostly related to the guide's purpose, however if you're feeling especially delicate, this might not be what you're looking for.

[On a little side-note I hate achievement guides written by people that haven't even earned the achievements themselves. So yeah, rest assured that the content below is from my own personal experience and not just assumptions.]
Achievements
This game boasts 92 earnable achievements - although sadly they lack fancy names. As you might gather from a quick glance at these, there are only a few achievement categories, with all achievements falling under one of the following:

  • Win x battles
  • Connect x gems at once
  • Destroy x gems at once
  • Collect x skill books
  • Collect x dresses
  • Reach Lv x with y Maiden

The achievements themselves are fairly descriptive and straight-forward, and judging by the global achievement rate, they should be relatively easy. However since you're here I would assume you'd want a little help. Fortunately, these achievements have very little luck and skill requirements - just a little time is all you need. At the time of writing I stand at 14 hours on record - and I have completed the game in its entirety.

It's worth mentioning at this point that most of the achievements aren't directly tied to the game progress - such that you can get all achievements (apart from the collect categories) without ever progressing level-wise. Although hopefully no one gets the idea to replay the same level ad nauseam.

As of the time of writing the rarest global achievement (at a whopping 25.9% rate) is of reaching level 7 with the Ice Maiden - which is somewhat baffling. Hint: Ice Maiden is cool.

Win x battles

Just as the title says. Win 40 battles and you've got all the achievements within this category. If for some reason you are having trouble moving forward in the game and just want these achievements, feel free to replay any prior level and you get the achievement just the same - if you win that is. It is however advised to keep moving forward that way every new level won would seem to merit the achievement even more - maybe encouraging you to continue ;)

Connect x gems at once

Connect gems together to both earn achievements as well as ace at the game. The most common achievement as of now is in fact the first one - connecting eight gems at once.

One thing to note about the last achievement (connecting 16 gems) is that only 14 gems of the same type are spawned at any time. If this limit is reached, any new gems will be of a different type. This is where the skill books come in handy ;)

If you're having trouble getting this achievement I would suggest picking a level from the very beginning - that way you wouldn't have to struggle to stay alive lol - just make sure you don't kill the monsters too quickly ;)

Pick a gem type that you already have plenty of on the grid - this can be anything - leave them intact. Remove any other gems that get in the way of forming a chain - remember that skill books can be used to keep a chain going.

Keep clearing the other gems until you can see that all 14 gems of the same type are spawned. Once this is done make sure you get a good path to connect them all - hooray!

Destroy x gems at once

The very last of this category requires 40 gems to be destroyed at once. This is a relatively large number considering that the grid is only made up of 56 gems in total. However there is nothing to fear.

This achievement is probably best earned with either the Ice Maiden or the Fire Maiden. This is because the third level skillbooks deal large area of effect damage. Remember that to get the highest level skillbooks you must make a 10+ gem match with the respective maiden.

The Fire Maiden's Level 3 Book of Flames can take out a maximum of 25 gems at once. Perfectly stacking and linking two of these can destroy a maximum of 44 gems - earning you this achievement.

The Ice Maiden's Level 3 Book of Ice can take out a 20 - 26 gems depending on where the book is placed. Strategically placing two of this book can yield a considerable number of gems. While the Fire Maiden's skillbook damage might be more consistent, the Level 2 Book of Ice (hittting 14) is relatively more effective than the Fire Maiden's Level 2 (hitting 9) - and can possibly earn you this achievement just the same.

Collect x skill books

As you progress through the story you unlock shops from which you can purchase the skill books. There are a total of eight shops spread around the two worlds. This gives you a little bit of leeway since the highest achievement only requires 21 skill books.

These shops more than anything look like a house or an old tavern. Hovering over them by the mouse will change the cursor to a gold bag icon and clicking on any one of them allows you to purchase three skill books - one per maiden. The currency used to purchase skill books is gold (wow...) as opposed to spiritual power.

Each maiden starts off with three skills, however you can buy another eight skills per maiden - some of which are actually skill upgrades - ie. a better version of the same skill at the same mana cost ;)

If for any reason you're having trouble locating the stores, please refer to the other guide section called Store Locations

Collect x dresses

Dresses are unlocked as you progress through the game. Some levels contain a dress item in their chest instead of Spiritual Power. Simply collect all four dress items per maiden. By default each maiden starts off with one dress (you pervert) - we'll call it the formal dress - which is the least revealing and offers no special effects.

The second dress type is what I'd call a schoolgirl uniform which is a tad shorter and offers some form of effect. The third dress resembles some sports dress, revealing the legs and offering a new set of effects. Lastly, the fourth dress is a revealing (and not too stylish) swimsuit, offering one last set of effects.

Reach Lv x with y Maiden

Maidens can reach a maximum level of 15, however for the last achievement the game only requires you to reach level 7. This shouldn't be too hard to do and you will in all probability reach this level before finishing off the game - Actually I doubt you can win the game with maidens at level 7...

Remember that to upgrade the maidens, you require Spiritual Power. Check the Getting Spiritual Power section for more info.
Store Locations
I doubt you will be needing this at all, but here are the screenshots of the two world maps - with all the store locations circled.

Getting Spiritual Power
Yuo gain SP by playing the game and gathering all drops throughout the levels. However if that doesn't cut it, one great place to earn a good supply of SP (a possible 8800 to be exact) without being too hard at all is the arena shown below. Just make sure to gather the green drop by all means!

Trivia
Have you ever wondered what the Maidens' names are? Ohh yeah, they have no name... Well, that's where you are wrong my friend. Even though they never made it in the English translation of the game, the girls' names are actually: Ella, Susan and Debby.

And how do I know that, you might ask? If you really want to know, browse the game installation directory: Hell Girls\game_Data\StreamingAssets\Data\sys_Role.txt - and there, amongst the other data, you should be able to find the girls' names.

Now, if you're also wondering which maiden has which name, we'll have to consult with the same file to try to map them out.

So, let's see, one of the statistics that stands out is of Ella - having some pretty high physical attack... Now who might that be? Yep, that's the Fire Maiden.

Moving on, Debby seems good at magic attack - so that would be my favourite maiden, ie. Lightning Maiden.

Last but not least, Susan has some decent HP... That reminds me of Ice Maiden, because in fact, that's her!

Ok... One more bonus: if you're wondering why the girl names never made it into the game is because the developers were uncertain of how these names would hold up in the Western world, so in the end they decided to keep the names in the resources and settle with maidens for the English translation.

So that's another mystery settled. Hope this has been fun!
Missing Translations [Obsolete]
After contacting one of the game developers a number of times and offered my own translations, these are now baked into the game - yay! You can ignore the rest of this section.

During battle enemies spawn their own form of tiles - each having some undesired effect. If you have played the game long enough, you might have noticed that some of these grid tiles do not offer an English translation - and if you are like me, you have no idea what they mean. Fortunately through trial and error I have discovered their effect.

First of all - the most hated mana drainer. Basically every x turns it drains your mana by a certain amount. Having any around are a really bad idea if you want to use skills. Note that these do not get removed after they deal their effect, but will remain there until you destroy them - removing mana periodically!

These tiles are pretty standard in that these deal a good chunk of damage after x turns if still on the grid. The way to destroy these is by having them go to the very bottom row of the grid, at which point they will be removed.

This tile - as the icon might suggest freezes surrounding tiles every x turns. Frozen tiles are inaccesible in matches and must first be thawed by the maiden's abilities. Combined with other effects this can be pretty annoying since it yields its area inaccessible to matches.

How do I destroy those annoying green eggs? I get the chests, but the eggs are just... how?

@Antaras - Are you sure you've completed the game in all its entirety? ie. Did you go to the second section of the world (with the tree). If so, I suppose you should have gotten it through the regular progression of the game.

I was afraid that'd be your answer, but that's toatally understandable. When it comes to the store, you can only purchase spells. Thanks for being so attentive, and hopefully I'll be hearing back from you. Thank you!

I'm sorry @Destiny but it has been a while since I last played and I honestly cannot remember. Have you completed the game entirely? I had once tried to keep track of the drops but had later given up on it. I also can't quite remembr if the stores allow you to purchase dresses or just spells. If I have some time to re-play the game again I'll make sure to let you know and append to the guide. Thanks.

Yeah, it ended up happening again. Then, it shortly passed..again. It's the only bug I've experienced though. However, I do have a question about the dresses. Are there specific areas that they are dropped in the chest? I've been trying to unlock all of them, but I just don't know where to go.

Thanks for your comment @Destiny. I'm afraid it has never happened to me, but I'm glad to know that the issue resolved itself.
Destiny Jun 20, 2018 @ 2:19pm
Haha, and it just worked. Guess it was just a bug! If it happens to anyone else..I did close my game and opened it again, even waited overnight. Just let it pass, I guess?

Is there a limit on how many times you can go to the arena to get SP? I went a few times, and now it doesn't let me play there. I can open the menu when I select a girl before a battle, but I can't click the play button. Any ideas?

great!
