How to play TDU2 Online in 2026!

This guide is to help you install Test Drive Unlimited 2 in 2026 and play it online.

Introduction

After the original server of Test Drive Unlimited 2 shut down in 2019, it has been our goal to completely revive it and bring the community back to life! In this guide, we will guide you through the process of installing Test Drive Unlimited 2 in 2026, with support for the online services.

Installation & creating an online account

Installing Test Drive Unlimited 2:

• Install a fresh licensed copy of Test Drive Unlimited 2.
  
• Update your game to version DLC2 v034 by downloading this file[turboduck.net] and copying all files inside to your game directory.
  
• Launch the game to ensure its working correctly.
  
• Download & launch the TDUniverse Installer here[turboduck.net].
  
• Follow the instructions given to you by the installer.
  
• The game might ask for your game key. You can find this in your Steam library. Right click TDU2 in your Steam library and go to Manage > CD-Keys. Paste the game key in the game activation window.
  
• Launch the game but do not create an account yet!*

* Don't be tempted to create a new account right away. You need to create an account on TDUniverse.org first so you can connect to the online services.

Creating an online TDUniverse account:

• To play online, you will need to create & verify an account on TDUniverse.org
  
• After having created your TDUniverse account, start the game and create a new online profile.
  
• When at the creation screen, enter your TDUniverse account username and password instead of the TDU2 ones.
  
• You now have created an online profile, happy racing!*

* Note that online play only becomes available after the completing the tutorial (after obtaining the caravan).

Skip Connectivity Check skips the NAT check in the launcher. It might help you with connecting to the servers more reliably.

In our testing multiplayer races have been reliable. It’s hard to say where the issue in your case is coming from.

You could try to join a session and let someone else host it. Hosting sessions can have problems when the connection is being blocked by your router.

Hi @Aquarious, this ports are both for inbound and outbound rules or just for outbound? What's the meaning of skip connectivity check option in settings of TDUniverse launcher?

Hi @yamijima, TDU2 uses ports 3478 and 8889. When not many players are online it can be difficult to find people since they could be on the other island or in dealerships/races/houses etc. When the icon on your GPS is green it means you're online.

@Aquarious My NAT type connection is NAT2, is that make a difference? Anyone can confirm any multiplayer features that are in function - like add a friend, multiplayer races and so on...

Hi @Aquarious, which ports should be open in firewall under TCP/UDP?? In TDUniverse Launcher my connectivity is always red - closed. But my server status is online, and always shows 2-3 players or none. I can sometimes login with no problem, and sometimes I can't with info that TDU server is not online. Any help with that matter, thanks in advance!
