Tiger I: A Legendary German Heavy Tank

First deployed in 1942, the Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausf. E dominated tank-on-tank combat for years. Incredibly powerful in a head-on engagement against Soviet T-34s or American M4 Shermans, what the Tiger lacked in mobility and reliability, it more than made up in armor and sheer firepower. Boasting an 88mm cannon and impressive firepower, the Tiger was undoubtedly the most powerful tank when it was introduced.

The Tiger H1 was the standard production variant of the Tiger tank until a new variant, the Tiger E, took its place. The Tiger E and H1 had little differences between them, with changes including minor improvements to armor and a smaller cupola on the Tiger E.

Tiger 131, a tank featured in this collection (along with a Tiger H1 and Tiger E), is the only operational Tiger tank left in the world. It was captured by the British after several Churchill tanks jammed its turret ring. The crew of the tank bailed, leaving the tank behind. It is currently on display at the Bovington tank museum.
