[2017] How to edit money. No trainers or BS.
By starfarts
No downloading artmoney, cheat tables, or mrantifun. Just edit the Excel-like database. Unless you are a total donkey, this won't take more than five minutes.

Do this before ever launching the game
  • Go to steam/steamapps/common/superpower 2
  • Right click on joshua.exe and select Properties, then the Compatibility tab
  • Run in compatibility for Windows XP SP3 and disable full screen optimizations
  • Click apply/ok/close, whatever
  • Now open the /common/superpower 2/redist folder
  • Install vcredist_x86
  • Open /superpower 2/redist/DotNet and install both 1.1 and 3.5
  • In case you are computer illiterate, those are Windows files from old versions which aren't used anymore. Most old games that are sold on Steam/GOG have these included in redist folders
  • In your Steam client library list, right click SuperPower 2 and select Launch Video Config Tool
  • Set it to 16 bits. I also found that when playing fullscreen it crashes every time you alt-tab, so I recommend not doing that. My resolution is 1600x900, so I set set the game to around 1600x860 since there's no borderless mode.
  • Launch the game
  • Exit the game
Good job, you're not senile
  • I use the Realism2016 + Magic Box available over on this steam thread. It's a mod manager that is updated once a month or so (yes, even in 2017), I assume by Russians or maybe Ethiopians. I use the Realism2016 database with God43 mod. It's the most updated geography of the world, and includes things like IS and Ukraine, etc.
  • These steps also work with SP2, but I don't recommend that because it's outdated af.
  • go to /common/superpower 2/MODS/Realism2016/data
  • double click on DATABASE.GDP
  • Windows will go ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about not knowing what .gdp is. Click on the Windows popup and "more apps" then "look for another app on this PC"
  • Direct the explorer to /common/superpower 2/Extras/GLeditor.exe and check "always use this app on my PC"
Time to take a viagra
  • You are now in the GolemLabs editor. Pat yourself on the ♥♥♥♥ because you've overcome what 99% of people posting in the SP2 steam forums can't figure out. Well done!
  • On the rightmost panel you will see DATABASE followed by Database Table and a +. Click the +
  • Double click on COUNTRY
  • These are all the countries in the game. You must now decide who you want to play as. For this example I chose the Syrian Arab Republic because I enjoy removing kebab.
  • I graduated third grade, so I know Syria's code is SYR, which is line 168
  • Click the box to the left of the country number. This will select the entire dataset.
  • Scroll right until you see the AVAILABLE column.
  • I really want to remove kebab effectively, so I put in 999999999999. This will set your country's available cash.
  • Click File -->Save MOD. You will get an error complaining about something or other. Click Continue.
  • Now File --> Exit. You will get another error, this time click Quit. Don't worry, the data has been saved. Not a clue why it lies to you.
  • Play the game and crush your enemy.
Don't ignore me
  • Make a backup of the Realism2016 folder before doing any modding (or SP2 folder if you're a communist).
  • In my experience, you will consistently forget to change the country back when you want to play someone else, resulting in somewhat of a mess in-game. For example, if I now wanted to play Belarus and stomp dissidents worldwide, the game world would still have a Syria with 9 billion trillion bucks to spend.
  • Whenever you're done with one country, just copy your backup over the files. This way you don't have to go back and change it.
  • Editing the DATABASE in this manner can change a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of things to your liking. Mechanically the process is extremely simple and logical once you get past the antiquated spreadsheet system. If you've ever edited a Paradox game, it's the same process except not nearly as pointlessly convoluted.
  • Congratulations! You're now a hacker! Go join anonymous and talk to CNN.

None, sorry m8. Like I said previously I haven't touched this game since around when I wrote this guide. It was just too unstable. The good news is that they are making SP3, and maybe that will be great like I hope it is.

I get some Funky Error when trying to Load the 'County' Section in the Database.

"MaxLength applies to string data type only. You cannot set Column 'CODE' property MaxLength to non-negative number."

Any ideas?

Sorry for the year-late reply and also for not being able to help. I haven't played this in years, since they stopped updating the mods.

I do not think this works with the latest version.

I'm sorry m8, I haven't been back to this game in months because of my crashing problems. If/when I do reinstall, I'll try to replicate your problem and respond here. Best of luck!

I got as far as opening the GL editor. I think the problem is the mod file has a .gdb file extension (not .gdp).

Help?
starfarts  [author] Sep 16, 2017 @ 10:05am
Well shit. Sorry about that, but I'm on Windows 10 so I can't replicate it. I did have problems one time by trying to directly open database.gdp. If that is your problem, open Golemlabs GL editor first, then do File -> Open mod -> direct the window to the folder your database.gdp is in -> type database.gdp in the "file name" field -> click open.

Using Windows 7 enables a fuck ton of errors not allowing you to use the Database editor.
