Legends - Johan Cruyff's 1991-92 Dream Team

The year is 1991, and after winning the club's first Spanish League title in 6 years, Johan Cruyff's "Dream Team" was about to usher in a new era of unprecedented dominance for the Catalan team. Despite being considered one of the most prestigious clubs in European football, Barcelona FC had never won the European Cup/Champions League, a favored talking point among Real Madrid’s supporters at the time. That all changed when former player, Johan Cruyff, began his reign as Barcelona’s manager in the summer of 1988 and brought about enormous changes to the debt-ridden club. He demanded absolute perfection from his players, and created the basis for what Barcelona is currently known for today: possession-based, attacking football centered around a core of Barcelona’s home-grown talent.

The 1991-92 season would become the pinnacle of Cruyff’s dream team, winning the league title, and then finally winning the club their first European Cup trophy on May 20, 1992 at England’s original Wembley Stadium. The winner would come from a superb free kick in the 112th minute by center back, Ronald Koeman, ending Barcelona’s European Cup curse once and for all.

After months of careful research, watching hours of vintage footage, and combining attributes from previous FM/CM games, I’ve managed to recreate this historic team to the very best of my abilities. Every player’s history is accurate as well, with all seasons in their history being moved forward 25 years (how long ago this season was). I debated whether or not to strip Barcelona of the trophies they won during and after this season to make it more accurate, but I chose to keep the club’s history where it currently is. If anyone would rather see this change occur instead, let me know.

Run the defenses ragged with Stoichkov and Laudrup, destroy attackers with the Beast known as Miguel Angel Nadal, or just watch from the sidelines as Cruyff attempts to recreate his own successes as the club’s manager.
