Overview and Roadmap
Regalia's achievements, for the most part, are pretty straightforward. Most of them will require you to simply max out your Personal Bond with a character. Some of them are more obscure, though.

If you're playing for the first time and you want the full completion with the least hassle involved, you need to remember only 3 things:
  • 1. Try to complete at least one challenge every fight for "A for Effort" / "Masochism Tango" achievements (described in Part V of this guide), but don't worry about it too much since there's plenty of fights to farm the challenges on and some of them are very easy to get
  • 2. Be careful with your Diplomacy options (described in part I of this guide)
  • 3. Be sure to save before completing "The Feud" quest in Chapter IV (described in part II of this guide)
  • 4. When you encounter a grave of a fallen hero in the first Node of Turtle Rock Dungeon, be sure to take his legacy with you (for the "In Our Hearts, on Our Backs" achievement, described in Part III of this guide. Thanks,
    Leosh!).

Other than that just have fun playing the game and don't worry about anything other than meeting Chapter requirements - ALL other achievements can be accomplished in Post Game, after you win. The game won't end and will let you explore any content that you may have missed.

Other useful tips are scattered throughout the guide, like Personal Bond tips in Part IV and Fishing tips in Part V.

Good luck and have fun!

Part I - Diplomatic Envoy Personal Bond Achievements
Like other Personal Bond achievements, these require you to reach Admirer Relationship level with a character. These are the most problematic of all the achievements in the game, though, because you'll get to choose up to 2 out of 4 available Envoy characters to include in your roster. The others will be forfeit for the remainder of the game.

It goes like this:

Every few weeks you'll get a Diplomatic Missive regarding one of two ongoing conflicts in the world of Regalia - Shedu VS Lordemar and Alfheimr VS The Empire. You need to choose between one or the other, which will award you with a Reputation Level with a particular kingdom. When you reach Level 3 with any of them, a new character will be recruited into your party. The problem is, you'll only get 4 missives for each conflict, which is clearly shown in the Diplomacy Menu.

Here's the thing: Diplomatic Missives are NOT time critical. This means that you can delay your choice as long as you wish. So the fastest way to get all four achievements would be to save your game at two critical moments:

When you have 3 diplomacy choices to make regarding Shedu VS Lordemar conflict
When you have 3 diplomacy choices to make regarding Alfheimr VS The Empire conflict

This way, after finishing the game, you can load the appropriate save file, make a different selection and focus on quickly getting the Personal Bond to maximum level for each character.

Later I may add skill descriptions for all four characters to help you make an informed decision about them.

OUTATIME
Max out Esther's Personal Bond.

Extra Heretical
Max out Henrietta's Personal Bond.

Henrietta grants a free bonus activation for another character every 3 turns, which is crazy in itself and also allows for great combos like a fully powered Money Shot from Diego on turn 2 dealing 1000+ to all enemies in range. After granting a bonus activation she gets Priority: Isolate, which imbues her crossbow shot with Stunned. This is a great way to deal with bosses and other dangerous foes!

I also found the Traits given by Lordemar to be the most useful - combined you get 60 Shields per turn for 3 Trait slots, which nicely buffs any other Shields per Activation gains from items that you may have on your characters. It may not seem much, but 30 + 30 + 120 Shields every turn will make your characters live a lot longer through long fights. But that's just my personal preference, feel free to choose whatever you wish for your first playthrough!

A Pirate I Was Meant to Be
Max out Valen's Personal Bond.

Without Honor or Humanity
Max out Mifune's Personal Bond.
Part II - The Feud Quest Mediation Achievements
In Chapter IV you will be faced with a main story quest called "The Feud". It requires you to travel to a meetup location between two parties that are fighting over rights to a patch of land. To finish the quest successfully you'll need to steer the conversation in such a way that all the involved parties (that are left standing) are satisfied, which isn't easy. Each of the possible solutions will award you with one of 4 achievements.

Below you will find the conversation paths that you need to take.

Remember to save your game to a separate slot before attempting this quest to reload and get all four achievements!

Crackpot, Hypocrite, King
Win the negotiations by exposing Bink.

  • I think I need to learn more, first.
  • Mr. Ba'kari, any additional input? I imagine you're the oldest around here.
  • So I assume it's not Mr. Ba'kari. But why would anyone attack your sheep?
  • Mr. Bink, are you hiding something from me?
  • Enough with the shiftiness, Mr. Bink. It's obvious things aren't what they seem. Let's hear some answers.
  • I think you may be older than you look, Mr. Bink. I've had experience with your kind before. I think... you're a vampire.
  • Think of it this way: a dragon can be handy; we'll spread rumors about Mr. Ba'kari's presence. It'll scare away those who'd wish to harm your family.
  • Prepare a written agreement between yourselves. That way, you'll have a very clear set of rules and repercussions.

Dragons in Our Midst
Win the negotiations by exposing Tag.

  • I'll try to find the most just solution to your problems.
  • Mr. Bink may speak harshly, but his claim seems valid. What would make you concede your rights to the land, Mr. Tag?
  • Mr. Tag, I asked you a question. What would holding that meeting change?
  • You mentioned your family serving with the Rantlessian Vipers. Master poisoners, right? And you clearly want Mr. Bink removed.
  • Like it or not, Mr. Ba'kari has his rights as a citizen of Ascalia. You need to settle with him too.
  • Prepare a written agreement between yourselves. That way, you'll have a very clear set of rules and repercussions.

Double Take
Win the negotiations by eliminating both Tag and Bink.
Big thanks to janus_heldon for the solution!

  • We need to work together.
  • Centuries? What do you mean?
  • I think I need to know more.
  • Hypothetically, what would it take for you and your family to move, Mr. Tag?
  • Manners, Mr. Bink. We're here to talk, not to insult.
  • So I assume it's not Mr. Ba'kari. But why would anyone attack your sheep?
  • Hold on--something's not right. You're doing this on purpose.
  • No. I think there's an unspoken undercurrent to this discussion, and that you're both trying to hide something.
  • Mr. Bink, Mr. Tag. You've left behind some clear hints - and now, it's time to come clean.

Building a Consensus
Successfully placate the three feuding parties.

  • I'll try to find the most just solution to your problems.
  • You have to consider that Mr. Tag has as much right to the land as you do, Mr. Bink. Any way for you to consider conceding your rights?
  • Manners, Mr. Bink. We're here to talk, not to insult.
  • What does this have to do with the topic at hand, Mr. Tag?
  • I insist, that you reconsider your stance on the ownership of the land, Mr. Bink...
  • Any comments, Mr. Ba'kari?
  • I think simply agreeing on some abstract sum of money won't work here. I propose a different kind of agreement.
  • While Mr. Tag will keep full ownership of the land, Mr. Bink will be given special rights and privileges to use a small list agreed-upon tools and implements - whenever he wishes.
  • Learn to cooperate. Let Mr. Ba'kari protect the land in exchange for personal space and solace.
Part III - Special Achievements
These miscellaneous achievements have requirements that don't fit other categories, but they can be accomplished at any time, except for the first one:

In Our Hearts, on Our Backs
Carry on the legacy of the fallen hero.

When exploring the Turtle Rock Dungeon you'll come along a very simple Text Adventure named "His Whorl Life" about encountering a makeshift grave of an unnamed hero. It's the first Node in the Dungeon. It consists of a sword sticking out of the ground and tattered remains of a cloth. Be sure to take the sword with you (Mifune won't like this). You'll be awarded with the achievement and Hero's Blade weapon for Griffith.

Thanks for the exact Node location, Leosh!

This Ain't Even a Lake!
Fish out the legendary item.

It seems every time you go fishing you have a chance of pulling out the Calesvol, possibly the best weapon for Kay. Using the Magnetic Bait might help with this, but if you're new to fishing, be sure to read fishing tips in Part V of this guide!

No-Winged Angel
Vanquish the Fomorian Ancient.

In the Demhe Node of Krakkan Peaks Dungeon, you will face the Fomorian Ancient. It has ~10,000 HP, activates twice per turn, silences, freezes and jinxes your characters, even teleports them away. You can find his full stats below. Be sure to visit this Node as the last in this Dungeon. After winning the battle you will unlock the achievement.

This is a good place to use one or two Signal Flares to call some allies to the battle. Consider using Signy's Massacre ability with No Stone Unturned to quickly deal huge amounts of damage to him.

As Leosh pointed out:
"the easiest method to kill the fomorian ancient is to stack health on levant and stand like this:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=936016276
in this method the ancient uses all her spells on levant and you can use firefly to get people out of the iceblock... never dropped a single avoidable healthpoint"

A Host of Sorrows
Vanquish the Visage of Anguish.

In The Parlor Node of The Pall Dungeon, you will face the Visage of Anguish. It has ~10,000 HP, spawns undead minions, consumes Skeletons to regain ~3000 Shields and applies Death Touch to your characters.

Be wary of using self-damaging abilities like Signy's Enrage when affected by Death Touch! You can also use Henrietta to take away Death Touch from your character, apply it to Visage of Anguish and defeat it in one hit!

Part IV - Personal Bond Achievements
These require you to simply max out a Personal Bond with a character. All of these can be safely done even in Post Game, but consider the following strategy:

First focus on getting your Personal Bond with Baz and Lilka to Confidante level to get the following bonus:

Significantly increases Relationship Point gains from Personal Bond conversation options.

This does not seem like much, but it may prove critical. Personal Bond conversations look like this: usually you get a conversation with a character that will present you with three different dialogue options to choose from, twice. There's always a neutral answer, a good answer and the best answer. Observe the reaction bubble that will appear above your companion's head - a bubble with one upward pointing arrow will award you with some points for a good answer and a bubble with three arrows will award you with a great amount of Relationship Points for the best possible answer. If you always choose the best answer, with Baz and Lilka's bonus you will find that after raising the Personal Bond level with a particular character, it will be immediately ready for upgrading on the next day! This is a huge bonus that will make your time management a lot easier. Some characters will require you to do Personal Bond Quests to advance (Miri is notorious for blocking your progress with her with a Quest on EACH BOND LEVEL), but other than that you can cut down time required to max out a Personal Bond to just 5 days, which is amazing and can potentially help you in a tight spot if you're one character away from getting that next Relationship Kingdom Quest.

Part V - Progress Counter Achievements
These self-explanatory achievements count your progress in numerous areas of the game. You'll get them sooner or later and they can be safely completed in Post Game.

The only exceptions are achievements you get for completing Challenges:

A for Effort / Masochism Tango
Complete 5 challenges. / Complete 50 challenges.

Try to complete at least one challenge for each fight, but don't sweat it if both are too difficult for you, there's plenty of them to go around and you only need 50. If you're really having problems or you're afraid that you fail too often, you can take notes on a piece of paper on how much of them you did already and save your game at the beginning of each chapter, so you have some options to fall back to if you ever struggle with this. I didn't care about the challenges at all when playing (I didn't notice there was an achievement related to them) and it popped when I cleared the rest of the dungeons Post Game.

Curtis Creek Regular / I Was Told There Would Be Fish
Catch 25 fish. / Fish out 10 items.

Do not trouble yourself with fishing until you get Shichiroji's Personal Bond level to Admirer level to get the following bonus:

Increases chances to get rare and unique rewards during a Fishing Day.

It doesn't seem like much, but without it fishing is just a waste of precious time and Mr. Crucey won't be happy with your lack of progress.

There are 5 types of bait:
  • Cheap Bait - Grants an extra fishing attempt.
  • Regular Bait - Slightly increases the chance of catching rare fish.
  • Barbed Bait - Slightly increases the chance of finding items while fishing.
  • Smelly Bait - Significantly increases the chance of catching rare fish.
  • Magnetic Bait - Significantly increases the chance of finding items while fishing.

With Shichiroji's bonus all the baits become useless except for... Cheap Bait. Why? Cheap Bait costs only 3 Components and 15 DLC. The other baits won't give you an additional fishing attempt, so, for example, you can only use Magnetic Bait 6 times before calling it a day. The advanced baits also won't give you a significant enough increase in excellent catches.

But with Shichiroji's bonus you can pay Riehl 105 Components and 525 DLC to make 105 Cheap Baits and exert yourself on a monstrous Fishing Day, gaining 100+ items and allowing yourself to fail about 10 times.

This way you will accomplish 3 Kingdom Quests in ONE DAY and also turn a huge profit and/or build a good cache of consumables for your future fights. This would be certainly tiring and probably would take a lot of time, but it's the most optimal thing to do as soon as you have Shichiroji's Admirer and Riehl's Acquaintance level of Personal Bond. You'll also probably unlock "This Ain't Even a Lake!" in the process.

A bit of an overkill, but something you should really consider, especially in a tight spot with Kingdom Quests for Mr. Crucey.

Big Things Have Small Beginnings / One, Two, Many
Win your first battle. / Win 50 battles.

Getting There! / Put Your Cap On
Reach Party Level 10. / Reach Party Level 20.

Dungeon Sweeper / Serial Cleaner
Clear 3 Dungeons. / Clear 15 Dungeons.

Commercial Break / Ur-Grue
Complete a Text Adventure. / Complete 25 Text Adventures.

It's All in the Hammer / +12 Hackmaster
Craft 25 items. / Craft 100 items.

Light Reading / TL;DR
Unlock 5 Codex entries. / Unlock 30 Codex entries.
Part VI - Story Related Achievements
These are absolutely unmissable:

A New Career in a New Town
Complete Chapter 1.

No Bright Lights, False Teeth, Doorbells, Landlords
Complete Chapter 2.

Things Will Get Worse
Complete Chapter 3.

Dragon Swayer
Complete Chapter 4.

Spitting Out the Demons
Complete Chapter 5.

Lots of Speculation from Everyone!
Complete Chapter 6.

The Once and Future Thing
Complete the game. Thanks for playing!

(This was bugged for me, as I completed the game soon after the game launched and I didn't get it. It's patched now. If you have the same problem, just load a Post Game save and advance the calendar by a day and it should pop, like it did for me.)

I disagree. Anyone who doesn't want to bother with multiple playthroughs wouls rather have the character gain they would most prefer to play with. The whole thing that makes this game really good is the variety in the way the different characters play. Everything else is secondary.

To be honest the "diplomacy" bonuses matter so little that there's barely any point in describing them in depth
MrMuse Jul 4, 2020 @ 3:20pm
I get from what you and others have said that Lordemar offers the best bonuses but what about the other opposing options? I don't see any diplomacy specific guides anywhere. Since these are either or choices I think they are the most important aspect of strategy in the entire game.
Yuri  [author] Mar 31, 2018 @ 8:08pm
As far as I know yes, I had to do another playthrough a bit on story mode and skipped everything to max out Mifune and Esther, as I originally missed out on them.
bobthegopher Mar 30, 2018 @ 7:00pm
Sounds good. One other question: in "Story Mode" difficulty, you can still fight battles if you want, do challenges, etc? It's basically just "Easy" difficulty with the option to skip battles if you want? Just want to make sure I can still unlock all achievements if I choose that.
Yuri  [author] Mar 30, 2018 @ 10:09am
It was 70 hours for me, but I probably idled a bit while it was running.
This is also depending on difficulty and much of the content can be essentially skipped without any penalty towards the achievements.
bobthegopher Mar 30, 2018 @ 7:36am
Thanks for the guide! I'll be playing this soon on Xbox. How many hours would you say the full completion is?
Yuri  [author] Jun 19, 2017 @ 2:44pm
Update: As of latest patch all achievements seem to be working properly and everyone should be able to get 100% completion. :happy_creep:
A satisfyingly fluffy cat Jun 5, 2017 @ 12:26pm
Whoops I must have missed that in the guide lol. Thanks again. If I find the best answers I'll let you know, but that might be a while from now.
Yuri  [author] Jun 5, 2017 @ 12:14pm
Yup, like I stated in the guide. There are "speech" bubbles that appear over characters' heads after selecting a dialogue option which will show you how good you did. One upwards facing arrow in the bubble means you did OK, three means it was the best possible answer.
