INTRODUCTION
STRAFE® is the hottest combat simulator of 1996, with mind-blowing hyper realistic graphics and lifelike gore and blood effects unlike the world has never seen!

"STRAFE® is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!" - Some Guy Probably

STRAFE® can be a fairly challenging game with plenty of secrets to find, this guide is meant to help completions and help players by letting them know what they need to do as well as giving out helpful (hopefully) tips and tricks to use in their runs, as well as how to access those secret goodies sprinkled throughout all areas of the game.

NOTE: If the text merges in with the images making it unreadable, refresh the page and it should fix that.

IMPORTANT NOTE: With the Introduction of PATCH 6 there is now an easy difficulty mode you can select from the main menu, playing on easy will disable all achievement earning while active, so be sure to play on normal while achievement hunting!
ZONE BASED
WALKIN' ON THE SUN requires you to beat Icarus by reaching the Black Canyon. The Icarus is the first zone of the game and is relatively easy going compared to the rest of it, but you can still get cornered and whittled down so you still need to play relatively well for this.
Here are some tips for Icarus
  • Icarus is the most enclosed area in the game, with plenty of narrow corridors and ship fires around the place, weapons that work well in close quarters are that much more effective here.
  • If needed you can lure enemies into narrow corridors and pick them off as they come in, make sure you are ready to handle the enemies or have an escape plan though, getting cornered due to overconfidence is a easy way to lose a ton of hp or even die.
  • Gluttons are standard enemies you'll see everywhere in the game who love to chase you down and melee you to death, they go down with a single headshot from anything and are not particularly strong by them selves but can be dangerous in swarms. Keep them at arms length. There are also armoured gluttons who protect their heads from a single hit before going down, you can take them down quicker by aiming for their legs/ body.
  • Keep an eye on the ceilings and walls, stalkers are commonly found clinging to these and will try to drop on top of you to deal damage and then chase you down to deal even more.
  • Weapon modification stations are the most common in Icarus, starting in Icarus is really beneficial for these. If you get a modification you don't like you can scrap it at benches to restore your weapon and for extra scrap.

CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF YOU, BABY requires you to beat Black Canyon by reaching The Burbs. The Black Canyon is the second zone of the game and is a step up in difficulty compared to Icarus. Harvesters and Bricks are devastating melee enemies which can only appear in this zone, along with acid pools for environmental hazards and more verticality than Icarus as well as more open spaces can make getting good footing can be just as intense as fighting.
Here are some tips for the Black Canyon
  • Harvesters are able to output a lot of damage very quickly with their slicers and run slightly faster than you can and can do a short leap to close distance, though they can be juked by strafing around them while they perform the leap. They are also very resilient able to absorb damage except on their heads, always try to go for headshots to take them out in an instant.
  • Bricks are giant reptilian like bipedal creature which try to disguise their appearance by hiding inside the rocks you can see around on the ground, though you can tell which ones they are inside by the size and shape of the rock being much taller. They absorb a ton of damage and deal ground slams if they get too close, so save your secondary shots/ grenade/ rocket launchers to take them out quickly.
  • Infected Gluttons are also found in the Black Canyon, these creatures have acid blood but are also weaker than the average glutton, try to avoid headshots or blowing these up to not spew damaging acid all over the ground.
  • The bombs you need to find and lay to clear the way are on a countdown timer with a misleading sound que for detonation, keep an eye on the lights on the side to know when to throw the explosive away.

HOME requires you to beat The Burbs by reaching Athena. The Burbs is the third zone of the game and takes place entirely underground with suburb like environments, with plenty of open spaces and corridors. Every level in The Burbs will have a locked door which cannot be opened as the gate control is not fully powered and you must find up to 2 batteries in the stage to place in the slots to open the gate. In 3-2 the power will also be out so you must find the generator and power up the level so you can progress. There are also 3 new enemies introduced, Snipers, Shotgunners and Infected Lobbers.
Here are some tips for The Burbs.
  • Snipers try to predict your movement and will shoot to where you will be if you continue moving in that direction, try to move unpredictably right before they shoot to throw off their aim entirely.
  • Shotgunners shoot 3 devastating but slow projectiles which don't deal too much damage individually, they can't turn quickly however so you can strafe around them and they won't be able to hit you. After shooting too many times they will run out of ammo and start chasing you down at a moderate speed to try and beat you with their shotgun, at this point just stay out of their range and shoot them down.
  • Infected Lobbers will lob globs of acid towards you whenever they have line of sight and have fairly slow movement speed, however if you get in a close vicinity to them they will stop spewing acid and instead will gain a massive burst of speed and will start running you down to try and suicide bomb you, dealing massive damage if caught up close and launching acid everywhere around them. Killing both friend and foe alike. You can use this to your advantage by activating their suicide mode and then running past them real quick to blow up enemies while you get away quick enough to not take damage, fairly risky to pull off.

WHY CAN'T WE BE FRIENDS requires you to beat the final boss which resides in the Athena Laboratories. Athena is the fourth and final zone of the game and will be the greatest challenge you face in the game. Tons of explosive and radioactive hazard barrels are around these levels which can be a detriment as well as a offensive option. There are 5 unique enemies exclusive to Athena most of which can be deadly if not properly disposed of as, along with decently sized hordes of Gluttons and Stalkers. Though by this point you should have plenty of weapon stat increases that it should balance this out.
Here are some tips for Athena.
  • Floors can be found which are coated entirely in pools of blood, walking in these greatly slows your movement making you much easier to chase down and shoot, keep jumping to maintain momentum if you have to walk through these, though avoid walking in it if possible.
  • Laser Grids will halt your progress through all levels of Athena telling you there are hostiles you need to kill before proceeding, you can overwrite this by holding interact when you're up close to the machine, leaving you vulnerable, letting go will reset the progress. Hostiles includes every enemy in the room so you either need to make sure they're all dead or expose yourself to potential damage for a couple of seconds.
  • Scientists can be found wailing around the halls of Athena, they will cowardly run away from you and any enemy around them, mostly harmless but they will try to slowly pull out a handgun and shoot you. You must eliminate for laser grids to open up as they count as a hostile.
  • Regenerators are a enemy introduced here which look like uninfected lobbers (one massive arm and one shorter one), at a distance they will lob blood at you which deals decent amounts of damage and use their big arm for damaging melee attacks. When shot enough they will fall to the floor, but if they're left alone they'll just pick themselves back up and continue attacking, you need to completely destroy their bodies to kill them. Keep shooting their corpses or use explosions/ aoe attacks to permanently take them out.
  • Light and Heavy Loaders are two enemies you can encounter, both wielding heavy armour and head protecting helmets, light loaders will fire bursts of 3 right at you and 'rambo' their guns occasionally shooting everywhere, Heavy Loaders act like shotgunners, but instead shoots 5 projectiles
TELEPORTERS
Edit: As of the Mutator Madness update released on the 5th of March, only 3 pieces are required to unlock a teleporter now, while I can't currently test to see what step they have removed from the unlocking process the instructions should still apply to the 3 parts required.

At the beginning of Black Canyon, Burbs and Athena you can find a unfinished teleporter that requires 3 parts to be fixed, when fixed you can teleport to the start of these areas by using the appropriate teleporter on the top level of your scrapper ship.

There are 4 parts to the teleporter, you can only find 1 for that zone per run and you can only get them in sequential order. When you have a required part you just stand close to the unfinished teleporter and hold the interact key to install it.

Part 1 of the teleporter is the keypad for the teleporter, you have to buy it from the previous zone's shop (so the keypad for the Black Canyon can be bought in the Icarus Shop).
Part 2 of the teleporter is the communications for the teleporter, you have to find it from somewhere in the previous zone, it'll be contained inside a wooden crate anywhere from level 1 to 3 of the zone. You then just take it to the teleporter and install it.

Part 3 of the teleporter is the plate for the teleporter which you stand on, you have to find it somewhere in the previous zone (x-1 to x-3), it is left out in the open so you just need to locate it and then proceed to the teleporter and install it.
[Many thanks to Oskuro for providing picture of the plate in the comments!]

Part 4 of the teleporter is the battery for the teleporter, you have to find it from somewhere in the previous zone, it is contained inside a wooden crate somewhere on level 3 of the zone, however when the crate is broken the battery will have a leak in it which if left unblocked will cause the battery to explode and you must hold and carry it to the teleporter in the next level. It is best to avoid shooting wooden crates until you've cleared the level so you don't have to deal with enemies while carrying it.

WEAPON BASED
To get BRRRAT-A-TAT-TAT-TAT-TAT you must win a run using the Machine Gun, this can be done using teleporters by by doing a full run.
TIP: For better accuracy when using a Machine Gun, shoot in bursts, holding down the shoot button will increase the spread over time.

To get SCHKLIKT, KLIKT VOOMP. you must win a run using the Shotgun, this can be done using teleporters by by doing a full run.
TIP: The Shotgun is a great crowd clearer both up close and at mid-range, its default secondary is great for crowds as well as enclosed spaces.

To get VMMMM-PHT. you must win a run using the Rail gun, this can be done using teleporters by by doing a full run.
TIP: The Default Secondary for the Rail Gun can be detonated mid-air by shooting it, which causes a massive explosion.

If you leave your scrapper ship without picking up any weapons you'll be left with your fists only on the Icarus, though a glutton was kind enough to leave you his wrench in the dead guy by the Icarus entrance. Beat the game using either your fists or the wrench to get the PUNCH DRUNK achievement. While you're playing a melee run, all weapon stat increases are instead replaced by health pickups.

To get the BACK AT YA achievement you need to start a run weaponless and pickup the wrench, then when you find a projectile enemy and if you can time your hits, you can hit their projectiles right back at them. Kill an enemy with a reflected projectile to get this achievement.
DO [X] AMOUNT OF TIMES
PLUMP QUADS: When in the tutorial for the game you will be given a small obstacle course and such to familiarise you with the controls, then you are given a jumping challenge to jump as much as you can, if you jump more than 10 times you'll get the achievement.

MIND BLOWING is obtained when you manage to blow up 666 barrels, these can be any type of barrel. You'll gradually get this one over time just by playing.

Throughout The Burbs and Athena 2 you can find little frog like creatures running both away from you and enemies, they are called Lil Joby's and can be picked up and petted. They can be used as a bullet shield (you monster) as well as being used for a secret talked about further down in the unique achievements. To get the BAD PARENT achievement you must kill atleast 50 of them.

TIP: Right at the beginning of Athena 4-1 there is a secret you can access under the waterfall to the left of the facility by shooting a exposed panel near the Burb elevators, there are a bunch of Gluttons and Lil Jobys wearing masks of the developers and their pets, killing these Lil Joby's will also count towards the achievement. [This tip was provided by Oskuro in the comments!]

To obtain SHHHHH you must find 100 secrets throughout your entire playtime, secrets are most commonly found by exposed wall panels seen throughout almost every level, although they can come in a couple more forms throughout a run (such as green wall plants in Black Canyon). You'll get this one over time and at a exponential rate as you start to discover how to spot secrets more easily.

To be an ART CRITIC you must destroy 100 paintings throughout your entire playtime, these paintings are found throughout The Burbs, especially on inside areas, you'll gradually get this achievement over time just by playing and reaching The Burbs enough times.

To be truely STRADDICTED® you must die atleast 1000 times. This isn't a hard achievement but will take ages if you're doing it the proper way and playing runs, so you'll either need to play a ton or suicide a ton of times. Either way you'll get this one over time.
UNIQUE ACHIEVEMENTS
THAT WAS REALLY DUMB
To get this achievement you must beat an entire level by only strafing, you can only move left or right you can't even jump at all in this challenge, the only thing you can do besides strafing is shooting. You should probably get this achievement on 1-1 where it'll be easiest unless you're feeling very suicidal.

COWABUNGA
You need to get a kill while riding on a Harvester to get this achievement. Though we don't mean just any old harvester, we mean this one you can find in Athena.

This harvester can appear during any level in Athena, it crawls around on the ground leaving a blood trail behind it. It is completely harmless and cannot do anything. If you jump on it's back with momentum you will begin to 'surf' on the back of it, maintaining your momentum. Killing an enemy while surfing on the back of one will grant you the achievement. Surfs up!

BIG TROUBLE, LITTLE HANDS
This is arguably one of the harder achievements in the game, you must find a Lil Joby running around somewhere on 4-2 and then carry him all the way to 4-4 (boss level) without him dying, which is pretty hard due to the amount of projectiles which will hit and eventually kill Lil Joby.

If you do manage to get Lil Joby to the final boss then you have to quickly expose a vent shaft on the side of the boss which you can throw Lil Joby into, where it will instantly kill the boss and grant you the achievement.

TIP: Spike Boots, Gun Boots (Double Jump) and Airbud (risky) are all great items for getting this achievement, as they allow you to attack without needing to drop Lil Joby. Spike Boots allow you to stop enemies, often instantly killing them. Gun Boots is a double jump that also shoots a shotgun blast beneath you when double jumping. Airbud is a drone which follows you and shoots enemies BUT be real careful about leaving Lil Joby about on the floor, Airbud will target Lil Joby and attempt kill him if he isn't being held.

COMMITED
Win a run without using any teleporters, fairly simple and you'll probably get this at one point or another, starting from Icarus allows you to become the strongest you can for the end game.

UNSTOPPABLE
You need to win a run without picking up ANY health or shield pickups. You can use teleporters to achieve this and unless you are a literal god you'll probably need to in order to get this achievement.

SPEED RUNNER
Beat the game in under 40 minutes to get this achievement. You can use teleporters to achieve this, though it is possible to do it without teleporters, prioritise the exit and clearing crowds as efficiently as you can.
SECRETS
FEAR OF FLYING
Fear of Flying/ Luftenstein is the first secret you can access in a run, you have to shoot the corpse that appears right at the beginning of Icarus Level 1, when shot the corpse will explode leaving behind a coin.

If you've picked up the coin a Luftenstein arcade machine will spawn somewhere on 1-2, when found you just have to Interact with it to access the Luftenstein minigame.

To win the minigame you just kill the 9 pilots found in the level and reach the exit before the time runs out and without dying. If you manage to beat the minigame you are returned to regular gameplay and the trophy safe besides it is unlocked, providing you with credits for the upcoming shop and a weapon stat increase. Losing the minigame will boot you back to regular gameplay with no rewards.
You do need to win Luftenstein to get the achievement.

HANGTIME
To access the Hangtime secret in STRAFE® you just need to parkour up to the top of the ship you start in at the start of the Black Canyon Zone (2-1), where you can pick up the letter S.
Once the S is picked up 6 more letters will appear throughout the stage which spell out STRAFE®, if you have all of them collected and reach the end of the stage you will be transported to the Hangtime secret.

Once the Jump Map is beaten you return to regular gameplay, a locked trophy safe nearby opens up which gives you extra credits along with a weapon stat increase.
You do need to finish the course to get the achievement.

MINE CRAFTED
To access the MINE CRAFTED (or Trappy Mine as it's called ingame) secret you have to spot a white drone with blue glowey bits somewhere in 2-2, it will teleport away after a couple of seconds but if you manage to damage it enough before it does so it'll drop a small battery which you can pick up. You can then use that battery to power up the Gluttronics Portable System and play Trappy Mine for a limited amount of time.

Reaching the bottom of the mine and winning the game will open the trophy case under the desk, which contains credits and a weapon stat increase. Dying and running out of lives will end the minigame and the trophy safe will not open.
You do not need to win trappy mine to get the achievement.

EXTERMINATED
To access the Exterminated secret in STRAFE® you need to reach The Burbs (3-1) where you have to find and kill 5 small rats you can find crawling around the level, if you manage to hunt down and kill all 5 of them before proceeding to 3-2 then the passageway to the secret will then spawn in the first room of 3-2 (where the corn farm is).

Edit: As of the Mutator Madness update on March 5th, the number of rats required to access this secret has been reduced from 9 to 5

When you enter that passageway you will be shrunk down and must find and destroy 5 pieces of cheese scattered around a bedroom, while also fighting re-skinned enemies who look like rats (Some shoot some pistol shots, others use shotguns and others are snipers).

If you manage to destroy all 5 cheese pieces and wipe out the rats you are then transported back to the hallway where a trophy safe opens next to the entry door, which contains credits and a weapon stat increase. Dying to the rats will return you to regular gameplay without the credit and stat rewards.
You do need to win the Exterminated challenge to get the achievement.

KILLED THE PAST
If you're a troubled individual who needs to kill their past you can access this secret by gathering 2 components from 3-1 and 3-2. In the starting area for 3-1 where you enter The Burbs there'll be a tv along with wrapped presents near it when you exit the bedroom, destroy these presents and a SNES like cartridge should pop out of one, pick it up and then continue on like normal until the shop in 3-2.

When you reach the Burbs Shop, you must attack and kill the shopkeeper and his upgraded turrets and proceed into his backroom and steal his Gluttronics game controller (SNES controller) and proceed to the locked gate on 3-3, in there you can find a Gluttronics Entertainment System where you just hit interact with it twice to insert the game and controller and you play a small dungeon from Enter The Gungeon except from a 3rd person view.

When you proceed to the last room and kill all the enemies the game will end and you are declared the winner, a trophy safe will open under the desk granting you credits and a weapon stat increase. Dying in the gungeon will return you to regular gameplay without the credit and stat rewards.
You do need to win Enter The Gungeon 3D Blast to get the achievement.

DIRTY HANDS
While dirty hands isn't necessarily a secret like the rest of them, it doesn't really belong anywhere else so here it stays, there is a seemingly random chance that a bathroom can spawn off to the side on any of the levels in The Burbs, to unlock DIRTY HANDS you just need to touch absolutely EVERYTHING possible in the bathrooms, both male and female. This will require 2 credits as there are dispensers in both that spend 1 credit to use.

LIFE'S A BEACH
Ain't that the truth, to get this secret you must make your way all the way to 4-2, at the end of the level in the shop there is a flower underneath some pipes you can pick up, which you must bring all the way back to the beginning of the level, near where you entered, where there's a vase and a trophy safe hiding behind a plank of wood, place the flower inside the vase and experience the tale of a lifetime that won 'Best Story'. Going Home.

Once you have reached the end of the masterful piece of story telling you will be returned to regular gameplay, with the trophy safe now being opened, rewarding you with credits and a weapon stat increase. Exiting the story via pause menu prematurely will return you to regular gameplay without the credit and stat rewards.
You do need to reach the end conclusion of Going Home to get the achievement.

MURDERZONE
HUNGRY FOR BLOOD
All you need for this achievement is to click on the computer to the right of the start option to brind up OneDOS, from there you can click on the MURDERZONE.EXE prompt or you can type it in yourself like the hardcore gamer you are. Then you just need to start it by clicking MURDER NOW.

HALF WAY THERE and TYRANT are both obtained by surviving to Wave 5 and Wave 10 respectively. If you just want the easiest and quickest time for these achievements play one of the ICARUS arenas and fight in those as you only have to deal with the enemies from zone 1. You have infinite ammo so you can spam your secondary fire all you want. After every MURDERZONE run you deposit the blood amount you've spilled into the unlock system for MURDERZONE which gives you more options/ findings while playing, so if you can't win the first couple of times, keep playing and you'll get unlocks which should make it substantially easier.
CONCLUSION
COMPLETIONIST
To get this achievement, obtain all the achievements. Well done kiddo.

Thank you for taking the time to read my guide, feel free to leave any feedback down in the comments below. There are still some images and a video that needs to be done for a section or two but I figured this was done enough already so expect those soon.

PSA :TangoShocking: when going for 100 secrets, be sure to reach the end of the level. Otherwise, secrets found in that level will not count. I wish I had noticed it earlier :sadstar2022:

you can use shop items while doing UNTOUCHABLE as well as using the little bugs that heal you on left click, take advantage of this as its the only way to heal without a pickup!

A little joby got in front of me while I was throwing an explosive barrel.

If you jump on the harvester in Athens with the boots on (the ones that deal damage when you jump on enemies) it'll just insta-kill it so if going for that achievement, dont get that item

I learned this the hard way lmao

After the Gold Edition update you only need to find the game now to activate the secret apparently and all you should need to do is get to 3-3 and find the setup to play it on at the unpowered barricades.
If you're going to Athena Labs instead of the burbs it sounds like you've gone one level too far previously, as it's been a while but I don't believe there's anyway modifier in the game that shortens zones to just 2 levels.
JAG 6 апр. 2022 г. в 18:06
i dont understand the kill the past one, i get both the game and controller but i get on the train and im at the start of athena labs? and not another level of the burbs
Flopdong 30 окт. 2021 г. в 0:44
Combine instakill with the rocket modifier so you start with a rocket launcher and can just shoot the ground at your feet. That is the quickest way I have found. Still takes a long time though, I am currently at 600 and play for 20 min every now and then and add some more deaths to my pile. It's a chore for sure.
Danny! 31 июл. 2021 г. в 20:39
Is there a better way of unlock STRADDICTED? Currently just quick-restarting with instakill modifier on, running into the first pack
