Getting Started In Terraria

This guide teaches you the basics of the game.

Getting Started

Hello and welcome to my Terraria guide.

If you are reading this im assuming you already have a character.
If you dont hit singleplayer and you will see a blue space that will say "select player", at the bottom right corner of that screen you will see "new".
After the player has been created you can also create a world.
The world creation/selecton screen looks the same as the player one.
You will be able to create a world after at least one character has been created.

Once that is done, hit the play button and wait to spawn.
You will spawn with a character next to you.
He is the guide (look at picture).
He will give you basic game info.

The first thing ill teach you about, is the UI (look at picture)
At the top right corner you have a map, your mana, and your life.
Some items in the game will also allow you to get more info.
That info will be shown under the map (an example of such item is a Cell Phone).
At the top left you will have your hotbar.
Here youll be able to see all the weapons, tools and items that you have put into the hotbar
(you will already have some basic copper tools)
You can select an item from the hotbar by scrolling your mouse wheel.
Later in the game you will also have your buffs be displayed under the hotbar
(the little pictures you see in the example pic.).

Getting Items

The first thing youll want to do is get some wood.
Select your copper axe by scrolling your mouse wheel and point your mouse as close to the bottom to the tree as you can.
Once you have the mouse pointed where it needs to be, click and hold to chop down the tree.
The reason you want to have the mouse as close to the bottom as you can, is because the tree will fall, so any tree block that is above the mouse, when you are hitting the tree will be destroyed.
That way you save some time.

Next lets go mining.
Get your copper pickaxe by scrolling the mouse wheel.
Point your mouse to the floor, click and hold.
You are now mining.
Mining is a big part of Terraria as alot of items can be collected by mining.
I recommend getting some torches, (wood & gel) to light your way.
Be caerful, because there are monsters in the depth of youw world, so be armed when you go mining.

Combat

As you have been collecting your items you might have seen some green/blue blobs, jumping on the ground.
Those are slimes, the first mob any new Terraria player will see.
Lets kill them.
Get your copper sword by scrolling the mouse wheel.
The copper Sword will only extend forward.
Later swords will spin and do more damage.
Point your mouse on a slime and click.
You will have to be close to it however.
Keep on hitting it and you will kill it.
Slimes will drop gel that you will need to make torches
All combat in the game looks like that, but keep in mind that mobs get stronger as you go so be caerful.

Basic Crafting

If you hit ESC you will open your inventory.
The inventory will be displayed in the top left corner.
However under the inventory you will see a crafting menu.
Use the wood that you got from the trees and make a work bench.
Hover your mouse over the work bench in the crafting menu and click on it (scrool your mouse wheel to go through the options in the crafting menu).
Now you have it selected. just click it anywhere to put it down.
This is how you craft stuff.
The recepie for the item that you are trying to make is next th the item itself.
At the bottom right corner you will have slots for accessories.
Here you can put on armor, vanity items (decor clothing) and dyes.
You can see a number of defense you have (if you have stronger armor, you will have a higher number of defense and you can equip items thant increase your defense number).
You can also put on wings.
If you have wings, you will no longer take fall damage and you can fly for a limited time.

NPC Houses

Every NPC in the game needs a room to live in.
It is up to you to make them a room.
I have taken a picture of a basic room for an NPC.
The house needs to have:
-Walls (can be crafted)
-Doors (can be crafted)
-A table/work bench (can be crafted)
-A torch/other light source (can be crafted/obtained)
-Exterior walls (wood or other building blocks)

If you make more of these you will have a hotel full of NPC characters that do different things.
Other NPC characters will come when certain objectives are met.

(If an NPC dies, they will respawn at their world spawnpoint after some time)

If your guide or any other NPC dies, they will respawn after some time =D

nice it rlly helps but can u do a tutorail of how to get ur guide back if he died by a zombie or slime and or demon eye?
