Graphic-Enhancement with Reshade
By Euphonique
The graphics of The Forest are not bad, but with Reshade and my preset it looks amazing.

What it does

This is a custom Reshade preset for The Forest.
I wanted to get the best out of the graphics, without to lose the natural look and mood of the game.
It's also slightly brighter than the default settings, for better visibility in dark caves.
It enhances the sharpness of the textures a lot, removes a little bit of the fog and has slightly brighter colors.
What it looks like

How to get it
Download the official Reshade installer from here:
https://reshade.me/

Install it with the OpenGL option and select your "TheForest.exe".
It can be found in your Steam directory under:
"\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Forest\TheForest.exe"
Install all presets when getting asked.

Now download my preset here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/eq6voxmmnc1n17c/TheForest_v2.0.ini?dl=0
and put it in the game directory.

Start up the game and you should see an info, that Reshade loads at the top of the screen.
If not: Check all the steps above.

Now press SHIFT+F2 to open the Reshade window.
Click through the tutorial and learn a little bit more about Reshade if you want. ;)
After the tutorial you should have a selectbox where you're able to select the presets.
Select the TheForest.ini

You should see the difference instantly. If you want to disable the preset, simply add a new one, give it the name "Disabled" e.g. When you select it, everything should be default again.

After that you should select "Performance mode" in the settings tab and bind a "Effects Toggle Key" for easier switching through the profiles.

Done! I hope you've found my tutorial helpful and you like my preset.
I think it really makes a difference. :) Have fun!

I'm ultra late to this party, just now trying out the Forest as everyone else is playing the sequel lol
But having installed Reshade on many many games with no issue, have not been able to make it work for the Forest yet. Anyone know how to make it work?
Tried both the regular exe and the 32 bit, both DX 9 and Open GL, uninstalling after each attempt and starting over, nothing has worked so far.
Probably missing something obvious but idk.
(Also have tried each with 5.7 and with an old 5.4 I have. In game Reshade never launches or opens though.)

@Euphonique You're a f@#king saint, that fog is a killer, it's like it was added to the game and someone forgot to input the settings, left set on max and 24hrs a day, it's a nice mechanic to add to the immersion, but the island and forest aren't very large, it shouldn't be as present as it is, the fog/haze makes the island feel stagnant.

I remember beautiful clear days, perfect for roaming for items, exploring and hacking up cannibals, i'm hoping they will do something about it in further updates, I heard the test servers are open or will be and the last time that this happened was around the January update, I'll wait and see, thanks for posting this man, .:houndeye:
