Storyline Region Routes

This guide shows the reasonable orders in which the game's regions should be visited to progress on the storyline routes. Use this guide to avoid straying off-path into regions that will just lead to dead-ends and backtracking.

Overseer

The main in-game mechanic for knowing which way to go is the little yellow guide that appears throughout the game. If you stay in a room and watch, it will point an arrow or shake its head in the direction it would like you to go. Following the path it leads you will bring you down the main storyline routes, at least for Chapter 1, and the start of Chapter 2.

Chapter 1 - A New Friend

• Green - Path of least resistance
  
• Orange - Alternate harder route(s)

Chapter 2 - The Journey

There is only one sensible route for this part of the game:

1. Shoreline
   
2. Shaded Citadel
   
3. Memory Crypts
   
4. The Leg
   
5. Underhang
   
6. Five Pebbles

Chapter 3 - Ascension

• Green - Path of least resistance
  
• Orange - Harder route
  
• Blue - Neuron delivery route

Achievement - Wanderer Route

For the Wanderer achievement, here is a route that goes through the whole game without skipping any of the regions. Note that the Wanderer achievement will not begin progressing until you first achieve "The Survivor". Make sure you have the achievement's progress active before leaving Industrial Complex.

Achievement - Pilgrimage Route (2nd Playthrough)

I recommend going for the Pilgrimage on a second playthrough. If you use the game's reset save file option, it will put you in a kind of New Game+ mode where you start the game over but keep all of your map discovery progress from your first playthrough. This also means that you will be able to Passage straight to any of the regions from the first playthrough, even if you haven't reached them yet in the second playthrough. Use this to teleport to the locations of the echoes. You need meet four of the six echoes to unlock the achievement.

Locations of the echoes:

• Four Needles Under Plentiful Leaves - Shaded Citadel
  
• Six Grains of Gravel, Mountains Abound - The Wall
  
• Nineteen Spades, Endless Reflection - Chimney Canopy
  
• Droplets Upon Five Large Droplets - Sky Islands
  
• A Bell, Eighteen Amber Beads - Farm Arrays
  
• Two Sprouts, Twelve Brackets - Subterranean (from Farm Arrays)

Achievement - Pilgrimage Route (1st Playthrough) (+Wanderer)

If you want to do Pilgrimage on your first playthrough instead, know that the requirements are that you complete the quest before finishing Chapter 2 of the story route. There are several routes you can take, but many of them may wind up with you visiting the same regions twice, once for pilgrimage, and another time for Chapter 3 of the story. Here's one route that minimizes region repeats while also visiting each region in the game:

Lmao, at all times on my first playthrough I went on the more difficult path.

Jesus I took the path of most resistance for my chapter one going in blind. I went through shaded citadel without a light source.

the garbage wastes are fine for me. the farm arrays can burn in a ditch shaded ignites my chidlhood fear of the dark and i have never set foot in drainage
