Sometimes he is sleeping. I've seen some LP's where the player travel to another bonfire and back till he is awaken. Unequip your weapon and hit him with the light attack is the solution.

Manchmal schläft er. Ich habe manche LP's gesehen wo die Spieler zu einem anderen Leuchtfeuer und zurück geportet sind bis er wach war. Einfach die Waffe ablegen und ihn mit dem Leichten Angriff boxen ist die Lösung.

frampt cant actually die so just go Red Tearstone ring + demon great axe + buf and RT his ass

OK, but in DS you never know what NPC's do when you hit them with a weapon.. ;)

You don't have to take your weapon off, I've done over 1000 damage with a leap attack and he wasn't bothered. It's just that you have to hit him once.
