New Custom Crosshairs

Since the Fire in the Skies update Dirty Bomb has a builtin feature to add custom crosshairs (32x32).

Change the Crosshair Static Type to Custom.

Crosshair location

Place your custom crosshair with the size of 32x32 as PNG in the Dirty Bomb folder in your Documents.

Normally you can find a readme.txt file in this folder with the content "Place 32x32 file named CustomCrosshair.png here."

If you set up the crosshair type to custom and you put your file in the wrong location then you'll see a Splash Damage logo with an example location as crosshair.

Make a crosshair from scratch

Image requirements

• Name must be CustomCrosshair.png
  
• Use a size of 32x32 pixels
  
• RGB colours

If your image doesn't meet the requirements (too large or indexed colours) then you'll see no crosshair at all.

Following steps are made with GIMP[gimp.org]. Other image editors are similiar.

• Create a new picture file using your software, make the dimensions 32 x 32 with a transparent background.

• Zoomed in view of the newly created image.
  You can place guide lines if you click the rulers and drag them in the viewport.

• Make your crosshair any way you like now, just remember to make sure its centered, since the center is where you will actually be shooting. On a side note you can use all the cool effects you want, like semi-transparent.

• When done export (Ctrl+E) the image as CustomCrosshair.png.

Well what requirements are there? I saved a png, 32x32, in the folder the game and this guide tells me to save them in. Yes, there is a readme.txt in the folder as well. Verified cache, nothing downloaded.
