Gameplay
Gameplay levels are levels that foucus on gameplay more than effects (to get it featured, you must have some design btw). The Gameplay tries to or perfectly syncs with the music. Gameplay levels are very fun to play as long as there are no bugs. Always play test your level a few time to try to find any sneaky bugs. (Remeber, Its about playing the level, not skipping it). Gameplay levels usausly start with a layout. A layout uses plain blocks to create the gameplay, along with portals, jump rings, jump pads, and sometimes triggers. Making gameplay can be hard with some songs, but easier with others. Gameplay can be fast paced as well. So gameplay can be a big part of your level. Some layouts can be harder to decorate or harder to come up with ideas for, keep that in mind while building.
Important stuff to keep in mind
  • Auto sections sould not be longer than 6 seconds
  • Auto sections should not be slapped in random places
  • Don't spam portals
  • Don't spam speed boosts *cough cough* Magmatic sanctuary *cough*
  • Don't use an overused song, try to be unique
  • Try to hide your coins in your level very well or make it harder to go the coin route so you don't get a ticket from the coin police man (aka Viprin lol)
  • This one I can't stress eough, DON'T USE INVISLBLE PORTALS! (unless you want to make custom portals, as long as people can identify what the portal is, and the only exception is if you want to try to make a memorization level, which in that case, this guide will not be very useful.)
An important thing to keep in mind is don't abuse an object or trigger. What I mean is that don't make it cause unfair deaths or make parts too confusing. An example would be making every object move on the screen, or give the player little reaction time. This can confuse the player, and that can really ruin a level.
Another very important thing you want to think about while building is reaction time. Give the player enough time to react to objects coming up. Making an object come out of nowwhere is not a good thing to do, as it is annoying and unfair. Some may argue that this is aceptable in levels that are meant to be confusing, but our purposes of this guide will be focused on normal levels that have not very much confusing gameplay.

Edit: I have had the statement "its ok if the gameplay is bad in an inconsistent level because its meant to be canceerous" brought up. I personally belive that if the level is inconsistent, then many will not want to play it and it can ruin the overall quality of the level. Remember, this guide is to help you get a chance at a feature, not risk it on a bad gameplay level.
Decoration
This is where most people start to fall apart. Decoration can sometimes be a hard thing to do and making it look good. But luckliy, I can guide you in the right direction. Decoration can make a level better and more attractive to an audience. You want to have good block design and decoration that feels natrual to the level
Colors
The most important part to the level is the colors. The colors must go together and look natural. Don't try to mix 2 colors that are completly diffent from each other. There are exceptions, if your trying to make a ranibow level, an art level, or sometimes paint and effect levels. Other than that, try to go by a color. The color should not go out through the entire level if you are making a normal level, change it up throughout the level with triggers.
Block Design
Block design can be hard to do. You want to try to mix diffrent blocks to make unquie structures, without overdoing or underdoing (It will look messy or bland) So here are some ideas for block design. A good way to start is to make a level something like the picture below. (RubRub style)
Level: Pearl Party Creator: CooperStorm (Me) I ditched this level and I don't know why lol

You can then work your way up to build something like this

Level: I don't know Creator: I don't know (This is some random image I found off of google lol)

Poor or lacking block design will end up in a bland, boring, and even bad level, so put some time into making the blocks (If you are making an effect level, block design doesn't really matter, but still put some thought into it!)

Decoration
Groud, air, spike, etc are mandittory. I can't really give any examples, but you can proably figure them out for yourself
Triggers
Triggers can do special things to blocks, objects, or even other triggers. Here are the triggers

Color Trigger: Changes a color chanels color
Move Trigger: Moves an object
Stop trigger: Stops a group of objects
Pulse trigger: Pulses the color of a color channel or a group of objects
Alpha trigger: Changes the opacity levels of a group of objects
Toggle trigger: Toggles on/off a group of objects
Spawn trigger: activates a group of triggers no matter the other triggers X postion
Rotate trigger: Rotates a group of objects, can be roatted around an axis
Follow trigger: An object will follow anthor object
Shake: Why do I need to explain this one lol
Animate: Changes the animation of the monsters (only big beast and bat)
Follow player Y: Can make a group of objects follow the players Y movements
Touch: Player tap will Toggle on/off a group of objects. Will function as a spawn trigger
Count trigger: Activates a group when the target amount is reached. Acts like a toggle trigger but will also function as a spawn trigger
Instant count: Counts the number of collectables in a special group and will act as a toggle or a spawn trigger
Pickup: Adds to a group count
Collison: Here is a comment to expalin collison triggers because I am too lazy to retype stuff lol (shoutout to Nulvin)

I can tell you some things about the collision trigger. When you place the trigger and have a collision block, (That you need to set to dynamic in the edit special button if you want it to move or rotate.) it will act as a toggle/spawn trigger if two specified collision blocks touch.
On death: Toggles a group on player death
Bg effect: Particles with the ship, ufo, and wave are removed

Dat's alot
Effects
I will say a few thing about effects, but the comments section may be the best place too look. Effects give your level a feel or charm and they look very cool. Effects will requires a ton of triggers and are very hard to pull off. Here is some examples of effects. (Level: Fiji By nasgubb, gameplay by michigun)

As you can notice, the effects and the background make the level feel alive. This gives an extra feeling to the player, making the level more interesting. These effects were used with all sorts of triggers and a lot of work with layers. Try to make something intresting with effects and maybe take some inspiration from others and you will be on the right track.
Do's and Dont's
Do: Spend alot of time working hard on your levels.
Don't: Rush it in an hour
Do: Use triggers
Don't: Be Triggered ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Do: Use blending
Don't: make your level look boringly soild and the colors are too bold
Do: Be smart with auto sections
Don't: Slap up random auto sections in random parts
Do: Be original and take inspration from good levels
Don't: Take inspration from generic levels

I don't know what else to say
Fin
So that's it. I hope you learned a way to improve. This is my first time making a guide so I know it's proabbly bad. But maybe you could give some feed back and tell me what I could do next time. Okay now, Bye-Bye children

The "Are you tired of getting hate on your horrible levels? Do you want some Creator Points? Well, fear not." reminds me of iNoToRiOuS's "How to use the" videos :GDInsane:
