BuddyUp system - purpose, limits and rewards
By Sunflare
Hello guys,

What is BuddyUp
BuddyUp is a referral system that awards existing players for bringing new ones into the game or helping returning players by offering both sides free items as the code user levels up. Although you don't need to know your mentor/mentee, you'll be added to each other's friendlists (unless the mentor's list is full) and become automatically friends level 3, which means you'll be able to summon each other anywhere in the open world. New players can seek advice or help from their mentors about the game, while mentors can show the ropes to newbies.

How to use a BuddyUp code
Generating a code
In order for you to see your character's BuddyUp code, you need to have an eligible character (L40+).
  • Log into your chosen L40+ character;
  • Open the Friends menu (press 'U' or Alt to call up the Main Menu bar) and go to the last tab - BuddyUp;
  • Press the button at the bottom to generate (read as to reveal) your code (because it doesn't change) and its monthly usage count;
  • Give the code to your buddy, post it as a sign on the rookie island or in one of the threads you can find in the Sharing BuddyUp codes section below.
Using a code
In order for you to utilise a BuddyUp code, you need to have an eligible character (L9-) on an eligible account (new/returning to the server).
  • Create a new character or go to the character selection screen if you already have one that's L9 or lower;
  • Click the BuddyUp banner at the upper-ish right corner (see the image below);
  • Select your chosen lowbie twink and enter the code manually (do not copy-paste it). Mind CaPiTaL letters, punc.tua-tion signs and #n1mb4rs, as they all matter;
  • Log into your character and have fun! o/

Image notes:
- If you can see this banner, then you're eligible for BuddyUp rewards as a mentee;
- The text tells you you need an L9- character;
- The 'Use By' date indicates when you become ineligible for using a code;
- 'Use By' changes to 'Benefits last until' after you use a code. The new date indicates the deadline by which you must reach level 65 in order to receive all reward boxes. That's 1 calendar month after entering the code.
Limitations
1. Eligible to become mentors are existing players with level 40 and over characters, whereas only new and returning players with characters of up to and including level 9 can use a code.
New player = someone who has recently created an account - within the last 15 days.
Returning player = someone who hasn't logged into a particular server for a long time - over 30 days.

2. A code can be used only once per server per qualifying period (no less than once in 42 days, including the 30 days of absence to qualify as a returning player).

3. As suggested by the definition for a returning player, you can use BuddyUp codes on more than one server, provided a) you haven't logged into that server for more than a month, b) you have a qualifying low level char and c) the code is from a character from the same server.

4. Deleting a character does not grant the re-use of a code for that server, be it the same or a different code.

5. The same code can be used up to 3 times per month. At present, 4th June 2018, usage counter resets on 1st of the month.

6. Once a code has been used, the mentee has 30 days to reach L65, else they become ineligible to receive more boxes, nor will their mentor be getting more rewards either.

7. You cannot use your own BuddyUp code even though you qualify as a returning player and already have a higher level character on the same account.

8. Reportedly, one cannot be a mentee and a mentor at the same time even if they qualify for both roles.

9. Reportedly, putting a character in deletion queue (if above L40) cancels one's eligibility for BuddyUp rewards even if the character is not deleted.

Last section update: 12.08.2020
Changes: Secretly removed Tempestuous Savage Draught and Strong Canephora Potion from the L50 rewards; not replaced them with anything else. Pathetic game publisher!

Previous section update: 16.03.2019
Changes: Secretly added Entropic Emblems to the L30 box and greatly decreased the amount of Emblems received in the L65 boxes. Rest remains unchanged, including the extremely outdated reset scrolls.
Circle of Friendship store (mentors only)

Jade - an oriental dragon mount with a movement speed of 270 (it does not fly).
Wooley (previously Candyspinner, changed without notice) - a looting pet.
Party box - contains either a Midnight Party Dress (for female characters), or a Crimson Short Jacket (for male characters).

Note that all items are permanent.

Also bear in mind that Friendship Circle (a.k.a. Circle of Friendship) shop items are not tradable.

Change log
Last update: 12.08.2020
Changes: Added a change log.
Reconfirmed rewards today, some of which have been unusable or outdated for 1-2 years. Naturally, Gameforge doesn't give a damn about it.

Previous updates: 25.08.2019 and 05.09.2019
Changes: Updated my BuddyUp codes after the server merge which reset all of them.

Previous update: 07.03.2019
Changes: Removed broken forum links. I had previously listed all 4 BuddyUp codes forum threads but Gameforge downgraded the forum platform without notice on 5th Feb 2019, thus breaking all old URLs. Good luck finding anything in that ugly place now! I'm not going to post the new links because Gameforge couldn't be bothered to even apologise about it.

@Failface
Hey! BuddyUp rewards are regional, so yes, they differ indeed. I haven't specified this guide is about EU because the foundation of the BuddyUp system is the same. Rewards, however, are not. o/

I also got a couple of 1 day Elite status scrolls in there somewhere but can't remember off the top of my head which levels I got them from.

Might need to make another account to do more testing :P

I don't know if it's just different on NA, but my BuddyUp rewards have been notably different than the ones listed here.

Changes:

Invitation:
- Candyspinner is permanent (unless I'm missing something. It doesn't have an expiry timer like the mount skills)
- 30 day Zebra riding skill instead of 7 day Mythical Snowdrift

Level 10:
- 7 day Snow Tiger mount of some kind

Level 20:
- 30 Day Village Atlas instead of 7 day (it's bankable so abuse it on as many characters as you can ;) )
- Devilicious Costume Smart Box for females. Dunno about male characters. (7 day)

Level 30:
- 7 day black/blue wolf mount
- No permanent head accessory (D:)

Level 40:
- 7 day Party Smart Box

Level 50:
- No XP Boost
- No Strong Bravery Potions

I'm not quite at level 60 yet so I'll update this when I get there
