Using premade portraits
Using premade portraits

I've included 50 different portraits that I use in my game that you are more then welcome to use in your game.

UPDATE 03/12/17 Finale update, removed low quality portraits and added some new ones. A total of 50 portraits now. Recommend removing all the old portraits from your game folder and then unzipping this file into the game folder. If you don't want to lose the old ones that I removed, then cut and paste all the portraits somewhere else before you empty your game folder of the older files. This will be my last update for a VERY long time, thank you.

UPDATE 06/04/17
Added a second custom portrait pack that is now ready for download, you can see waht i have added in the second example picture below. Thank you and have fun!

1. Download the file from my Nexusmods page, no membership required.
Nexusmods Portrait Page Link[www.nexusmods.com]

2. Unzip the file SCCP.zip using any zip file program
(SCCP = StarCrawlers Custom Portraits)

3. Place the files inside this folder
C:\Users\user name\AppData\LocalLow\Juggernaut Games\StarCrawlers\Images
*User name is what ever name you use on your computer
*if appdata does not show, then you need to turn on "view hidden files and folders"

4. Start the game
*go to your character overview
*you will see a small icon that say "edit" bottom right corner of your portrait, click on it

5. Enter the portrait file name and click the disk icon next to it, one at a time
*You need to change all three pictures, character + event + combat
*When you do, you should see the picture automatically update
*character picture is a number
*event picture is the number and the letter e
*combat picture is the number and the letter c

For example...
21
21e
21c

Making your own portraits
Making your own portraits

You need three pictures that are PNG format
1024 x 1024 -> used for your character page
265 x 393 -> used for events
256 x 128 -> used for combat

1. Find a picture that you wish to use for your portrait
*having a full body picture is better
*transparent pictures work better
*pictures of 1024 resolution or bigger works better
*the smaller the picture, the less quality
*the bigger the picture, the more quality
*Google image search has a color option to search for transparent pictures

2. Once you have a picture you wish to use, open up your picture editing software program.
*any program should work, i personally use Jasc Paint Shop Pro

3. The easier way of doing this.
*Make 3 new picture files, in your picture editing software
*make sure you use no background or transparent file
*1024 x 1024
*265 x 393
*256 x 128

4. Open the picture you wish to use
*crop the picture so that it's basically border from foot to head with no extra space
*resize the picture to 1024 X 1024
(if you have an odd size, lets say 1200 x 1600, resize keeping the original ratio but resize the smallest number to 1024. now resize your canvas to 1024 x 1024)

5. Edit the picture
*depending on your software, edit the picture so it looks cleaner and better
*reduce noise, sharpen, better color, highlights, lighting and etc.
*once your happy with your picture save it as PNG

6. Now copy the picture and paste it onto your 1024 x 1024, layer or selection works fine
*now using your selection tool, try to get only the head of the character and copy
*paste into the 256 x 128 and edit the best you can so you have a good head shot
(i resized the picture to 75% first, some pics may need different sizing)
*now go back to the 1024 picture and try to select waist up for the 265 picture
*paste onto the 265 picture and edit the best you can for 'half a body shot or bust'
(I resized the picture to 60% first, some pics may need different sizing)
*save all three pictures as a transparent PNG file

7. Once you have all 3 pictures done and your happy with them
*copy and paste your pictures into the following folder...
C:\Users\user name\AppData\LocalLow\Juggernaut Games\StarCrawlers\Images
*if appdata does not show, then you need to turn on "view hidden files and folders"

8. Start the game
*go to your character overview
*you will see a small icon that say "edit" bottom right corner of your portrait, click on it

9. Enter the portrait file name and click the disk icon next to it, one at a time
*You need to change all three pictures, character + event + combat
*When you do, you should see the picture automatically update
*character picture is a number
*event picture is the number and the letter e
*combat picture is the number and the letter c

For example...
13
13e
13c

I have tried to make this guide helpful for those that wish to use custom portraits and for those that wish to make their very own custom portraits.

Please be gentle as this is my very first guide ever.

If you should know of an easier way, please feel free to post to help others, thank you!

I will try and answer questions if their should be any but please keep in mind that it may take me some time to answer questions as i tend to be a busy beaver.

Make sure to let the devs know that this game is awesome and show your support! After this game is finished and maybe some DLC has been offered, they may make more games like this one.

Believe it or not... I'm human so... prone to personal taste, opinions, mistakes, bad grammar, spelling mistakes and errors each and every day.

Above all else... have fun playing the game :)

Special credit and huge appreication to the following artisit to whom without them we would not have these to begin with.
Ryan Demita
Joseph Cross
Darren Tan

As a reminder, i did not make any of this artwork from scratch and was found on the internet under the fair use act 17 U.S.C. § 107 of 2011

Unfortunately fair use doesnt cover the use of these artworks. I suggest you remove this asap.

Awesome these are great! I will definitely use this pack when I try Starcrawlers again. Way better than the custom portraits that I made from my art work. I can only dream to be as good as these concept artists :)

I only managed to find a few individual artists sadly, many of the images are game renders that are often attributed to the whole art team. The concept art tends to be a bit easier though. No idea if it's worth listing the games, but this is what I came up with:

Individual artists:

Destiny concept artist - Ryan Demita (dude is phenomenal!)
Destiny concept artist - Joseph Cross
Star Wars Galaxies TCG concept artist - Darren Tan

Games used:

Destiny
Halo (various)
Mass Effect 3
Titanfall
Titanfall 2
Resident Evil (various)
Shield of God
Mortal Kombat 9
Lost Planet 2
Killzone

You took the time to make the portrait pack, so I'll do a little source hunting. Will post later. :)
AgentSerro  [author] May 27, 2017 @ 8:16am
Unfortunately none of the artwork had the original artist name attached to them, these where all found under different search engines and the pictures have been uploaded and downloaded so many times that the artist names have been long since been removed.

If I had the original artist names, I would be more then happy to add their names to a credits list of some sort. I've always been a huge advocate of giving credit where credit is due, even more so which such wonderful works of art as these.

If you should have the original artist names, please post them here along with what pictures they have done and I promise to add them to everything so they receive credit, thank you!

I don't see credits anywhere, am I missing them?

This was extremely helpful, thank you.
I'm awful with photo editing but I have to say, my portraits didn't turn out too bad.
