Changes from PSP version

Here's the detailed changes between Disgaea 2 PC and 魔界戦記ディスガイア2 PORTABLE (Makai Senki Disgaea 2 Portable).

Disgaea 2 PC is definitely not the definitive version because the Japanese PSP version is still better than it in some ways. This guide will show you changes that you might miss. Comparing PC and Japanese PSP version in depth. (kinda)

("the best" is a cheap version. In the PS2,PSP days. They usually ship with fixes.)

Just in case, The term D2 in this guide is referring to Disgaea D2. Not Disgaea 2. I will simply refer Disgaea 2.as 2.

Minor changes from PSP version

• Added End Turn and Execute shortcut keys
• Added event skip confirm like the Disgaea 3, 4 Vita ports
  (Image on the right)
  
• Mouse support
  
• Added an option to change filter (Off, Bilinear, Bicubic)
  
• DLC Characters are not fixed at level 100 (Similar to D2 and 5's behavior which the level is depends on story progress)
  
• Removed promotional videos in Dark Assembly
  
• Some 3D map texture error fix

Bug?

• No longer able to fast forward text message by holding cancel key
  
• No sound effect when unit being cloned by geo panel
  
• Rifle Demon gets a new (weird) sound effect
  
• No red flashing highlight on a unit when a skill is targeting a humanoid unit

BGM Changes

Some background music has changed due to copyright issue, lost of asset or other reasons:

General UI

The "new" UI in Disgaea 2 PC has borrowed some of the future Disgaea games element in it. Like the map panels and the font.
However the "old" UI isn't actually the one being used on PSP version. The "old" UI is instead a dumped-down version of PSP UI (Mixed with some PS2 UI). Also using an uglier font to make it looks ugly when comparing to "new"

Cutscenes UI

As mentioned in "Minor changes". Text message can't be fast forwarded by holding cancel button. Also the skip button prompt is missing. The PSP version doesn't have skip confirmation though.

Misused Portrait

Apparently, Pleinair's HD portrait is using Disgaea 3 version instead of her Disgaea 2 version.








The change might be because they can't find / lost the high resolution assets. Although the DLC icon of PSP version is using the non-pixel art portrait

Missing contents (Promotional stuff)

Here's the DLC that you won't find in the Disgaea PC: (in release order)

All available for free on Japan PSN for Makai Senki Disgaea 2 Portable.
All DLC weapons are IR40 and have a decent starting stats.

All game trailer senatorial bills (インフィニットループ ～古城が見せた夢～, Prinny 1, 夢想灯籠, 流行り神 1, 2, Disgaea 3) in Dark Assembly are gone as well.



The reason why they are gone is simply because they are promotional contents. Toro & Kuro also known as Sony Cats in the west. Their appearance for the west is only on Street Fighter X Tekken and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (PS3, PS Vita). Their only appearance for non-PS platform is collaboration event in a Japanese online called Phantasy Star Online 2 (PC, PS Vita, PS4, Android, iOS). Items and costumes obtained from the event can be used an all platform. But the Toro & Kuro event is only accessible on PS4 / PS Vita.

With their only PC appearance is a multi platform Japanese online game. Toro & Kuro are most likely won't come to Disgaea 2 PC in the future.
(And future Disgaea PC ports along with Famitsu, Dengeki PlayStation contents)
The Switch version Disgaea 5 has confirmed no Toro&Kuro spell for the obvious reason. Also no replacement for that (Mario&Luigi perhaps?)

Map changes

Some battle has changed the map for unknown reason.

the orc:
so the game carries over the changes done to the PSP version, you can only capture 1: monsters whose level is =/<Adell. 2:can be created.
vs total level from Cursed Memories.

Dengeki PS is ended at early 2020 btw. (around the period that Sony decided to go full California)

you will have to unlock that class or that orc is an unique one.

Disgaea 2, capturing enemies is bugged. total level of 300 in party cant capture a level 14 orc.
