Riptale Has Been Greenlit!
Sign up for Riptale Beta
Release date: first quarter 2017

Riptale is a 2D action game aiming to make sword combat be as bloody and impactful as possible. The player collects gems that allow them to execute different attacks in the order of their choosing. All this results in a symphony of combos that fill the screen with blood and guts. If Riptale was a board game it would shoot scissors at you.

Instead of erratic hacking of the attack button the player must instead first aim at their target and then strike. The attacks are powered by arcane gems which make them powerful enough to bring down the ancient dragons threatening the world. Each gem takes a few moments to recharge, which means the attacks must be planned carefully lest they run out at the worst possible moment.

Purchase attack gems and line them up the way you want to fight.

Unlock the true power in your attacks by utilizing the analogue stick.

Encounter dragons and mystical cultists and end their reign of terror.

Roam through dark crypts, underground forests, and mushroom caverns.

Paying homage to the classics of yesteryears and preparing you for the action.

Looks fast-paced and like it runs pretty well. I get that you're really trying to emphasis the red and only the red, but I can't help thinking it could look a lot more fresh and interesting, especially as the game goes on, with a full color palette. It would be difficult to keep new locations fresh and interesting with the limitations of only using white on black with such a low-bit style. Still, I'll give a thumbs up for the flashy style and obvious care put into this.

I've been following this game for a while now, and all the previous teasers in form of art and gameplay videos released by its developer, Super God, have left me craving for more. I'm hyped to witness that it has already made its way into Greenlight, where it'll have a chance to be viewed by other Steam users.

Gore and guts have never turned me away from any form of entertainment, be it a game or a graphic novel. Moreover, I see it bringing in a fresh aspect to the platform genre itself, which I wouldn't call the most violent... at least in graphic way. Riptale seems to have an interesting take on combat as well, which requires more skill than just smashing buttons in.

Overall, I'm looking forward to see this game get a full scale release within the next months. I wonder if there's any lore in for myself to devour in, too...

This looks pretty fun. I like the artstyle, the combat seems to be pretty fast-paced and stylish and overall this seems to have been made with a lot of passion and hard work. Also it's an actual new idea for combat (or I've just not seen much like it), so that's already great.
I think the blood effects could use a bit more work though and I always hate the gif as cover art, I don't even know why this is possible, but aside from that you probably should be on Steam.
