What kept us busy

Right after our Kickstarter we went to the Reboot Develop conference to meet potential partners and publishers who approached us during our campaign. Things are looking very promising! We’ll keep you updated.

Andrej is currently fine tuning the script for Sacred Fire. I’ve read the first couple of chapters and it’s fascinating to see all the characters from our Kickstarter page coming alive in a fast-flowing story. The choices and decisions you make are deep and intriguing. I really love how everything you do develops your character and builds or harms relationships with others, just like in real life.

Kickstarter Funded! Last 24 Hours!
First Stretch Goal Funded

Thanks to your support we have just smashed the 1st stretch goal!

One of Sacred Fire’s strengths is its unique visual style and focus on character creation. It’s the deepest and most thought out design aspect of Sacred Fire, as it allows you to develop your own playstyle and create your own hero. So our first stretch goal expands this fundamental part of the game and gives you even more self-expression options with focus on variety of:

  • colors, outfits and hairstyles,
  • faces, scars and paint patterns,
  • jewelry and more awesome beards.

We are happy to show you a short video of the character art we are working on:

Next Stretch Goals

The design of Sacred Fire is oriented inwards, exploring the motives, emotions and conflicts of the protagonist. In key story choices, you lead an inner monologue detailing your thoughts and motives, why you made a choice and how you process the consequences.

To support this design, this stretch goals adds narration of inner dilemmas to immerse you deeper into your role. What’s interesting, we have some of the most distinct voices in gaming showing early interest in joining the Sacred Fire team (on our indie budget!), as the male and female voice of your character.

Based on your suggestions, we realized things don’t have to be black and white. While we can’t promise full voice-over for our varied cast, we can use it in character defining moments to make your favorite Sacred Fire characters come alive and immerse you deeper into the story. This stretch goal ads partial voice-over for the 10 main story characters: the 8 potential allies and the 2 powerful villains.

We hope we will be able to add localization stretch goals later in the campaign to bring Sacred Fire to more players in their native language. We will factor in the count of backers from different countries into our selection of languages. We are also exploring the fan based localization option as a few translators have reached out to us.

Last 24 Hours

With less than 24 hours to go, the time to join 1,300 backers and claim your rewards is now. Thank you for your support.

Release date: spring 2018
Sacred Fire is a turn-based, psychological RPG about survival, power, and the search for meaning, inspired by ancient Caledonia.

Build your will to show courage in battle and cunning in the throne room. Rise through renown, blackmail, or loyalty. Inspire others to crush Rome or to build a nation.

  • Use tactical thinking in a story full of risk-based choices and combat.
  • Enjoy a fast flow of narrative twists and turns.
  • Inspired by the pen & paper RPG experience, explore NPCs’ motives, stay in character and play to your strong sides.
  • Choose how to solve conflicts: use force, smarts, skill, looks or empathy.
  • Express your take on story events in inner monologues shaping your personality and inner strength.
  • Manage your relationships and renown to increase your impact on the story.
  • No magic, no dragons: solve real conflicts, fueled by real motives, with real solutions. Your heart hides all the monsters.

At its core, Sacred Fire is a game focused on narrative, choice and consequences, with emphasis on internal and interpersonal conflicts. Develop your character, engage in tactical combat, and maintain relationships with those around you.

Sacred Fire gives you tactical options like:
  • Should I boost my chances to say something smart, or save the willpower to deal with my traumatic memories?
  • Do I craft a new weapon, donate the resources to the healer, or organize a feast?
  • Do I deal with the envy for my brother, or that dislikeable bully, or my attraction to that femme fatale?

The combat in Sacred Fire blends powerful storytelling moments, personality tests, and turn-based tactical moves into one flow.

Each turn the player chooses one of four goals of your attack or defense: survive, provoke, intimidate and gain renown. However, a wide variety of different actions result from these four goals based on by how much you overshoot the probability check.

  • If the goal is to survive, you will defend and attack in the most efficient manner, affecting hit points only.
  • To provoke, you can taunt the opponent, parry like you were sparring with a child, or play nasty and hit a sensitive place.
  • To intimidate, you can split objects in half, shoot an warning arrow, or take a hit without nudging.
  • To gain renown, you will intentionally dodge in the last possible moment, block arrows without dodging, or pull off a devastating attack.

We use the personality model to make the player's interaction with the story tactical. Choices and their consequences are the core element of Sacred Fire.

If a story choice you want to make is out-of-character for the personality you’ve developed, you need to pass a probability check. To boost your chances you can use willpower points.

Inner monologue give the player’s character the ability to interpret and comment on what’s happening. What are your thoughts on failure, injustice, or brutality in a scene? What is the motive behind your choice to help someone?

We never mislead the player into a wrong choice. The player always has a smart option out of a tough spot. Notice a trap, sense an ambush or spot a hidden blade? You just need to have the will to make the extra effort.

You do not start out as a leader; you have to compete for influence within the group of potential rivals or allies. NPCs have their own agendas and will try to undermine your choices.

For as long as your people can remember, Rome tried to conquer your lands, but failed every time. To put an end to this costly conflict and to display their power, Rome built a monumental wall.

You are young in age but come from a long line of elders. Can you unite the tribes behind a vision stronger than war? Or will you lead them to crush Rome?

The time to choose has come as Rome crossed the wall in full force. Beyond survival, beyond revenge, your true fight begins.

Dunadd, an ancient seat of power, is the only place where you can gain allies and build a resistance against Rome.

The Fort functions as a long-term strategy aspect of the game. There you can use your hard earned willpower points, renown, and resources to compete in the influence race and prepare for the challenges ahead.

You can also interact with NPCs to remove states blocking a relationship. Inside the Fort you can use relationship insights to build friendship, blackmail, or discredit a character.

At the start of Sacred Fire, you have no influence. With no wealth and no renown, you will find it hard to make allies. Gain influence through combat, courage, crafting, healing, appearance or relations.

Rising to the top and swaying key story choices (like changing battle plans to rescue a beloved character) is hard, but also rewarding, unlocking otherwise hidden storylines.

Will you:
  • build your own influence to rise as a leader?
  • use secrets to manipulate those in power?
  • or build genuine friendships based on loyalty or romance?

There are 8 characters who can be your allies in Sacred Fire.

There are 2 powerful enemy leaders you have to defy.

At you can now vote for your favorite character to raise their in-game influence.

Choose between characters that want to vengefully crush Rome, or those who want to survive Rome and build a nation. This way you can have a powerful, like-minded NPC ally inside the game.

In Sacred Fire, you craft your own personal experience with the story, so you are always free to choose your own path. It just makes things easier if an NPC has your back, or harder if you fight alone.

@At least 10 pieces of cheese Thanks for the nice comment and your interest. Yes, it's possible to pre-order the game. After our Kickstarter we launched a continuous late-backing campaign on Indiegogo. Check it out at {LINK REMOVED} . There's a ton of backer exclusive bonus rewards available, such as personality or appearance traits, Golden Eagle companion, early access to preview, etc. We even have a pretty cool Sacred Fire themed ringtones narrated by Doug Cockle, the voice of the Witcher, which are available immediately after backing.

I've been following this gem for quite some time now, yet never backed it or donated (due to finance issues) However, I am so glad this game is coming to steam soon, and i am def going to buy it when it comes out.

BTW, will you guys allow users to pre buy the game, or pre order it in some way? If you do, will you give some sort of bonus?
