Introduction
This walkthrough is intended for build 1.072 on Normal difficulty

Bold is names of units, enemies and buildings
Italics is personal messages to readers
Underine is for abilities

There are three different types of resources you can gather from.
  1. Fishing Spot: These allow you to fish for food for a total of 500 food,
  2. Turtles: These creatures are marked yellow on the map and yield a total of 250 food after you kill them,
  3. Mineral Vein: These allow you to mine for a total of 250 minerals.

"In normal only worry about resource management in Act 10."

Tips
  1. The unit limit can be bypassed with the Queen, but only for more Workers,
  2. Items can either increase or decrease stats and/or add abilities,
  3. Must-have research: Medic, Rhino and Defense Upgrade,
  4. You can set buildings and/or units as a team, using CTRL+(any number),
  5. DNA and items carry over between Acts, so don't be afraid of losing them,
  6. Make Medics and Rhino's a must in your army, your survivability will greatly increase.

"Before you even begin your journey, you should watch the cutscene 'The Destruction of Earth' its rather interesting."

First Mission: Build a Hive

Your Insectoid Advisor will awaken you calling you the Great One. He'll then go on to tell you that you must give form to your empire. Before we build the Hive use the D key to move the camera east. Keep a lookout for a shiny box.

"Anything shiny will drop loot for you."

Right-click the treasure box with your Worker to open it.

"Only Workers have the ability to open treasure boxes"

So go on and build a Hive by pressing B on the keyboard, then selecting Hive (its a shame the developer didn't give you the option to rebind or program in hotkeys for units or building).

Second Mission: Order a worker to kill a turtle and gather its meat

Like the mission asks, find the turtles which are next to you and kill them. After they are dead it'll automatically start gathering. If you notice on your screen you'll see that little collector bugs have appeared from the Hive, they'll be the ones picking up and transporting the food.

Third Mission: Spawn 3 workers

To spawn the next two Workers you're going to have to gather up 20 food, 10 for each one. Once you have at least 10 food, click on your Hive and click Worker.

Fourth Mission: Build a Barracks

Now that you have those extra workers, use one to go gather from the Fishing Spot nearby (you can tell where they are by the jumping fish) and use the other to build a Barrack nearby.

Fifth Mission: Spawn two unit squads

"When you begin the game you only have access to Legionnaires and Hunters until you have researched the other two units"

Click on your Barrack when you have 50 food. Click Legionnaire or Hunter to begin spawning them. They each require 50 food.
These two units spawn in squads:
  • Legionnaires: squad of five,
  • Hunters: squad of three.

"Legionnaires should be the ones starting the fight, so have Hunters attack behind them"

After you finished spawning, you're going to have to find something which will open the gate east of your base.

Sixth Mission: Light the catacomb torches and kill the Wraith

"Do not attack Azrael the Cursed at all otherwise your going to have to replay the mission to get the "So Bright It Burns" achievement"

Before you even think about sending your units in, left-click the southwest portion of the map, the area you just saw (the one with Azrael the Cursed). Then left-click both torches that are shining. This will cause Azrael the Cursed to take Damage over Time. Let it die before sending your units in and you'll get your achievement.
Take at least 3 squads of Legionnaires and a squad of Hunter to take down the three Ara'lok Damned and Azrael the Cursed.

Seventh Mission: Pick up the key and open the door to the next area

Make sure the way is clear or you Worker is going to die. Click on the green shiny chest to get your key, then use your Worker to open the other chest and collect the mineral piles on the floor (these net you +1 minerals).

Before you open the door spawn 3 more squads of Legionnaires, 2 more of Hunters and a Queen. Once your done click on the shiny cog.

Eight Mission: Kill the Guardians

During that cutscene you should have notived that Ara'lok Damned past the doors. Having a full army will make it so you don't have to wait for new units to spawn.

"If you are still having trouble, run back to your Hive and fight there. This will give you the benefit of regeneration (assuming you have food)." Once you've cleared the first group the next mission begins.

Ninth Mission: Move to the altar and start the ritual

Move you army north and kill the next group that appears. When you reach the Altar the four Workers appear and begin the ritual summoning the Lava Golem. It tells you it wants you to destroy its enemy south of the map.

"At this point you can scour the rest of the map avoiding the southern portion where the Ancient is to collect more loot."

Tenth Mission: Kill the Ancient and absorb the essence

Head south until you reach the Ancient. Once you get there expect an easy battle.
The ancient only has one real troubling attack. When you see six to eight red circles on the ground, run away from it. It'll hit the Legionnaire for at least a quarter of its heatlh.

"If you do find it a little hard, run back to your back to you Hive while it follows you."

Congratulations you've just finished the first act and have taken your first steps in building your empire.

First Mission: Build Hive, Barracks and two unit squads

"The Insectoid Advisor tells you that we're here to find the Artifact buried in the Room of King Ara'desh. Apparently it will show the way to the surface."

First thing to do in every act is build a Hive.
Second, gather food and build a Barrack. Finally have a squad of Legionnaires and Hunters.

"Check out the screenshot for a strange place at building a Hive."

"For this mission, if you gathered up enough DNA from Act 1 then research a Medic. They are going to be useful in this act."

Second Mission: Clear the path to the Tomb with a worker

I'm not sure how this is considered this a mission since all you have to do is bring a Worker over to the pile and right-click to clear it. Simple really.

Third Mission: Kill all the creatures

I don't want you going in just yet. Instead max out your squads and head south. You'll encounter some Ara'lok who are easy to kill.
Continue a bit further to south. When you see the chest you'll see the greater beast Maturin the Scaleless with Gnabrak and Grob'lik. Kill the two before fighting Maturin. You shouldn't lose any squads as long as you have your Medic's.
Now you can go to the northern portion of the map to kill more Ara'lok and get a chest or head into the Tomb to clear the seven Ara'lok inside.

Fourth Mission: Look at the paintings and statue

All you have to do here is click on whichever wall painting is shining, then the statue. Your Insect Advisor will listen to it and then you'll have to find its missing items.

Fifth Mission: Solve the puzzle

The only clue you'll have is the wall icons in the room.
Generally its read from right to left so just step on the appropriate icons on the floor and you won't take damage.

"Follow the path of the green circles to reach the end. Sorry for the picture, didn't screen capture in time.."

Sixth Mission: Kill Guardians and ransack the treasure room

Take your units and head south through the door. You'll encounter Ara'lok Damned. Just like with the last bunch wipe them out.

Once done run west and click the floating shiny pink jewel. Don't forget to pick up the treasure around the room and open up the chests.

Seventh Mission: Find where the gemstone fits

Move your units to the elephant statue, click on it.

Eighth Mission: Use workers to search the nearby sandpiles for the missing part

There are 4 sands piles surrounding the Hive, one between the temples to the north and the last one to the northwest.

"I'm not sure if you have to collect them all to get the missing part so let me know in comments if it is and I'll change the guide a bit."

Ninth Mission: Claim the artifact

Here we go. As soon as you click on the Artifact you begin the battle with Ara'desh. Make sure your healers drop a Healing Circle to keep up some healing while everyone goes in for the kill and you should beat him in no time. Note that he will raise some Ara'lok Damned which you should probably kill.

Tenth Mission: 05:00 Protect the Artifact and the Ceremony

The ritual begins and you'll have to protect your Workers from waves of Ara'lok for five minutes.

"An easy way I managed to do this was build a Hive literally right where the Artifact is and just fight there. Got to love those stupid bugs.. and you can also build Turrets a little ways south for some extra defense."

Congratulations! The ritual is complete and now we're off to the Great Wastelands.

First Mission: Build 2 legionnaire and hunter squads

We're going with the usual routine. Build Hive, Workers, Barracks, then Legionnaires and Hunters.
If you have a good amount of DNA research Rhinos. They will be good for missions like this we're the main objective will be killing.
Also, make a turret or two before you complete this mission, it'll come in handy soon.
So once you finish the mission you'll see have you first encounter with the Chala'toi, servants of the Drowned God. They should not be underestimated because they are normally in groups and until you research attack and defense up, your going to need a good army to stop any pointless deaths.

Third Mission: Explore the area to find a way to the Chala'toi city

So apparently we go straight to the third mission. Well it doesn't matter. Diplomacy with the Chala'toi have broken down and now they will attack your base. Good thing we have the Turrets.

Fourth Mission: Find missing pieces for the pedestal

The pieces are circle rings found very close to your Hive. But before we click on those to collect them, head south and you'll meet a greater beast, Ra'nak the Broodmother.

If you don't want to fight the Ara'lok while fighting Ra'nak send in your Hunters to draw it out first.
Now that it is dead spawn a Worker with your Queen and open up the chest you see.
Head south to kill some Ara'lok, if not look a little west to the small island and open the chest you see there.
Finally we're done. Click on both of the rings near you base and the circle where we just killed the Ara'lok to get to the next mission.

Fifth Mission: Solve the Puzzle

Well its not really a puzzle but we'll let that slide. Click on the outer ring three times, middle ring three times and inner ring once.

"If you can't figure it out, the screenshot is the solution."

Sixth Mission: Raze the Chala'toi city!

Go up the stairs and don't just rush north. Kill Chala'toi one at a time otherwise your going to lost some of your units. There are ten Chala'toi and Dimetrodons.
Now that they're dead spawn a Worker and grab the chest.
Now cross the water west.

"I like to put Hive near the city in case for a quick retreat and resurrection."

There are fourteen Chala'toi, one Dimetrodon scattered around the city.

You may have noticed I have never told you to build a Workers Den. That's something thats going to be up to you to build. If you have at least 250 DNA, build it for research, but otherwise it would be a waste money."

First Mission: Build a Hive

Build a Hive between the two mineral veins and turtles. This makes for faster gathering.

Once your done your targets will be shown:

Gurtok the Defiler,

Azun'don the Corrupted and

Gethek the Faceless.
Basically, kill them and you win.

Second Mission: Kill the Chalatoi Commanders

Now that your targets have been shown. Spawn more Workers, build your Barracks and you must build Turrets. Try to build as much Turrets as you can afford and do not stop building them unless you destroy all Chiefs Dens and Chalatoi (Workers).

"Something to remember is that Chala'toi will come from two different directions. From the north and from the west.

"A tip for placing Turrets. Make sure their range of attack covers the Turrets surrounding it. This is make sure they don't die to quickly."

After you put down at least four Turrets build a Barrack and start spawning your squads.
"

By now you should have already spawned a Queen, use her Call Worker. Then have it gather from an unused resource around you.
If your army is ready I recommend taking out Gurtok the Defiler to the north.
Once Gurtok is dead leave the area and prepare to head west.

"If your in need of resources build a Workers Den here since its now clear."

March west and you'll come across Gethek the Faceless, focus on taking out Chalatoi that surround him.
When he dies, start from the southwest corner destroying the Skull Dens, Chiefs Hut, Chalatoi and Dimetrodon on your way to the northwest until you reach Azun'don the Corrupted.

"Let no Chalatoi (Workers) get past you otherwise they'll just start rebuilding."

Now that all three Commanders are dead, you have a path to the Sunken city, which is the seat of the Chala'toi empire.

First head south down the stairs then move to the water between the three fishing spots. This is where you'll place your Hive.

"I chose this spot because its more easily defendable"

Build up all your Workers, set them to gather from the fishing spots and the minerals nearby then quickly set up your defenses.

Build a Queen, Medic, Rhino and some Hunters. Before you quit building place two Turrets next to the stairs that are to the north of you. From here you'll be receiving waves of Chala'toi until you destroy their buildings.

Finish building up your army. Then send your units north up the stairs, cross the bridge to the west eliminating every Chala'toi and buildings you see.

"If you're low on food consider building a Worker's den here next to the fishing spots for some quick gathering".

Cross the bridge back and this time go north and kill Thaanroth the Hungerer. Grab the chest behind it and get ready to kill the Gatekeeper.

"If your after the achievement "Acidodger" then to make it easier send in only wasps equipped with defense, attack, dodge chance and poison items. If they die: rebuild, re-equip and repeat."

The Gatekeeper now dead will allow you to enter the Chala'toi empire and destroy them completely.

Objective #2: Defeat the Chala'toi army

Cross into the Chala'toi empire and you'll quickly be swarmed with about 15-20 Chala'toi. Among them will be Azj'riel and Thula'tor. Kill the Chala'toi first then focus your attacks on one of them at a time.

"You may want to run back to you turrets to help deal some extra damage"

After your done with that heal. This time head southwest killing the rest of the Chala'toi. Once you reach the stairs look to the west and you'll see the Skull Den and Chief's Hut, destroy them and head down the stairs.
You'll be attacked by around 10-15 Chala'toi. Once their dead go east and finish off the rest them.

Objective: Build Hive

Build your Hive on the shoreline next to the fishing spots.

Objective: Destroy Chala'toi forces

This time we can't just follow our usual build routine. We're going to have to be specific this time because attacks come more frequently now (believe me when I say 'frequently').
Spawn 4 Workers, a Barrack, 2 Rhinos, 2 Medics and make sure they are fighting near the Hive for some healing aid. After that quickly build up your army.

"This is one of the only times when I will tell you to use your items. Fully equip your Rhinos with a focus on defense. Fighting near the Hive and having 2 Medics will make it an impossible tank to kill."

"You're going to want to hotkey your Workers too for the beginning of this mission, because of the waves of attack. Basically press your hotkey when you see the enemies coming and run them behind your army so you don't have to waste food re-spawning them if they've been killed."

Head north and kill your way to the topmost island. Wipe out the buildings quickly to make things even easier.

Once you've made it there and wiped out the Chalatoi then you've finished this Objective.

"Because of the attacks you shouldn't have been able to mine mineral properly. At this point you should so send a Worker up the steps to the northwest where there are three mineral veins. Use the extra minerals to build a Hive at the bridge or build up some Turrets along the path back to your Hive just in case you need to make a run for it with Chalatoi chasing you."

Objective: Clear the Temple area

Before you cross the bridge look a little the the north of it where there is shiny treasure and assuming you haven't already done so you are now free to kill Slith'rez without any Chalatoi interruptions. Killing him also nets you the "Bigger Game Hunter" achievement assuming you haven't skipped the other Greater Beasts.

All thats left is to go across the bridge and clear the final islands surrounding the Temple.

Objective: Kill the Necromancer

The Artifact now gives you rebirth into the form of the Avatar. The Necromancer will appear and try to kill you. Now you may have seen his 10,000HP, 40 Attack stats, but don't let that get you down. Nearly the entire battle will be a basic attack showdown with the occasional sprinkle of abilities. So as long as you've removed the items from the Rhino, equipped it on Avatar and have Medics with your Avatar he will go down really quick.

Well he's dead and gives his final remarks. Congratulations we're so close to finishing the game.

Objective: Locate Anomaly

"You can now see that you have access to the Avatar from your Hive. Deal the finising blow with its "Chain bolt" ability on three enemies at the same time and you'll get your achievement."

The first thing you should do is spawn five Workers since there will be no waves coming at you this time. Then spawn your Avatar and equip him fully however you see fit. Once thats done build your army up as usual.
While your army is spawning take your Avatar far east of you to investigate the Anomaly.

Objective: Defeat Parasite

"You found the Anomaly but lost forces to a parasite. You now have a new enemy to face and they are strong."

Send your Avatar following the path southeast, northeast and finally northwest wiping out any infected you find. If you have your army ready bring them in to make things go a lot faster. If you see any Ara'lok along the way you can ignore them if you want.

"With your Avatar fully equipped and with Life Leech its perfectly possible to solo the rest of this objective but it will take much longer."

Make sure to cross every bridge and wipe out every Infected.

"Don't forget the little area to the north with Ara'lok and a chest."

And that's it you're done. The ancient disease has been eradicated and your insects are saved.

Objective: Build Hive

"After that interesting dialouge about the World Gates, Gate of Thanato and a bit of history we learn that the way to the surface is closed and unless we get the final relic we're never going to the surface."

The starting spot is terrible so head north next to the river and build your Hive.

Objective: Defeat the lizardmen

Since our targets are the Ara'lok just build up using usual routine starting with Avatar.
If you want you can start heading east as soon as you've spawned two Medics and an Avatar.

"While your marching east, spawn the rest of your army and when thats done send them to aid your Avatar."

You should notice that some Ara'lok here are stronger than the ones you've been fighting before so refer to the enemy table above to get a sense of the difference. Otherwise the Avatar alone is enough to handle them so don't worry about the buff too much.

Once you've reached the temple steps to the east kill the Ara'lok at the top and your objective will be complete.

Objective: Find a way to repair the Aqueduct

This one is prety easy. Head north from the temple steps and you'll see your first piece. Click on it and continue on clicking every piece that you see.

"Pieces that are clickable are going to have a golden shine."

The next piece is a little north and to the east.
Your going to have to go back around the cliff area to the left to reach to next three pieces.

"Refer to my screenshots to see where they are. Piece two by the way, is missing because I accidently clicked it before I took a screenshot."

Objective: Change the Aqueduct water flow direction

This one is incredibly simple. Your going to see the first aqueduct section as soon as the cutscene is over so click that. All you have to do is follow the aqueduct line, click the next sections to realign them and you'll be done quickly.

"Check out the screenshots for proper alignment."

Objective: Defeat the Chalatoi Guards

Now that the water is flowing the bridge right next to the Hive has risen and we get to fight the Chalatoi again. You'll be probably need a bit more units with your Avatar to make this go more smoothly.
Head north past the bridge and kill the three guards. Then continue along the right path around the cliff to get on the cliff.
You'll find some more Chalatoi and Dimetrodon once you get there.
As you march along cross the bridge and you'll find some more guards to slaughter. There is also a Skull Den there but you can ignore that and just keep marching east until you reach the northeast part of the map.

Objective: Solve the Puzzle

Well after that talk of Arkan and Zoroth being chained you now have a puzzle to solve.
Just like the puzzle back in Act 5 this should be easy to solve.

  • Centre Piece: Spin two times,
  • Middle Piece: Spin three time,
  • Outer Piece: Spin five times.

Looks like you've awoke a very high HP Boss, Arkanoth.

Objective: Defeat Arkanoth

Although his HP is really high you won't have any trouble with him. He still boasts the same stats are regular Chalatoi.
He has an area of effect attack where four circles either surround him or appear in front of him in a row.
One other ability he has is one which pulls you to him and he combo's that with an ability.
These hit for about 50% of your health so keep your Medic's back so they don't get killed. Otherwise just make sure your army is ready and unload your abilities and attacks on him. He should go down in a minute or two.

Congratulations, the first of the Chalatoi is dead and you now have a clear path to the final relic.

Objective: Build Hive

"We're finally here! The final act."

Begin by building a Hive just northeast of you. You should place it between the six fishing spots.

Objective: Defeat Chala'toi Guards

As you seen from the cutscene there are a ton of Chalatoi. Spend some time raising your army and things will go by pretty smooth.

"If you want some minerals, send your units east and clear the enemies there. There are two mineral veins in that area."

"Hopefully you've been collecting at least one chest per Act since Act 1 or opening the chest to the far west of your Hive won't give you an achievement""

"We will be facing some new-ish enemies by the way. Chala'toi Wraith, Undead Revenant, Unliving Champion and Flesh Render. They are literal peanuts when fighting the Avatar so you should have no problems with them."

Enter the temple and only go north. Kill everything in your path and once you reach the door you'll have to kill Raz'thul and Naz'jarl to complete the objective. Avatar equipped with Life Leech should be able to solo these two.

Objective: Solve the weight puzzle

Your army should be ready by now so send them into the east chamber with the Avatar for some quick clearing.

If you look carefully you'll notice four protruding tiles on the floor. These each have an insect on it.

  • Legionnaire: southeast tile,
  • Hunter: southwest tile,
  • Worker: northeast tile,
  • Queen: northwest tile.

Objective: Collect the Puzzlebox piece

Click on the Puzzlebox piece.

Objective: Use Worker to dig tunnel

Bring your army outside to the temple and head west, stop near the area where you found the chest. Make sure your Worker is with you so that you can dig.
Right-click on the sand block creating a path to the chamber. After that bring your army inside and clear it. Then bring in your Worker for the chest.
After you exit the chamber through the north doorway you've completed the objective.

Objective: Collect the second Puzzlebox piece

You have to head west but there are traps that will damage you should you get hit. Be careful and stop in between traps before moving on.

"What I said before would be true, but there is currently a bug which prevents you from taking any damage from the traps. So just waltz on through it.."

Once your inside the chamber, kill the four Flesh Renders and collect the Puzzlebox piece.

Objective: Enter the main Chamber

The central door is now opened thanks to the Puzzlebox and the death of four Workers. Proceed on through see the Orb of Life.

Objective: Defeat the resurrected Necromancer

The Necromancer has been brough back to life so lets kill him one more time. Unfortunately he's actually much stronger, so unless you want to lose your entire army make sure to dodge his abilities. Also keep your Medics back, you'll need them to heal.

"Build a Hive and Barrack in the central chamber before the door to quickly replace any units lost."

Objective: Collect the Orb of Life

Click in the Orb of Life to begin the final battle..

Objective: Defeat the Drowned God

"Holy crap, is literally what I said when I saw him."

This is it the final battle.
There are a few things you have to remember when fighting him.

  1. Avoid the red circles from the Drowned God, the damage is high,
  2. The purple Chalatoi explodes if you bring a unit that has the laser pointing at it within its red circle,
  3. Focus down one tentacle at a time,
  4. Drowned God is invulnerable until the tentacles are kiled.

My strategy.
I equipped the Avatar with defense boosting and Life Leeching items. As long as he has a defense value of at least 13 then his HP should never be below max for long.

Using Avatar and no one else I killed off the tentacles.
If I saw a purple Chalatoi I brought my Avatar just inside the circle and retreated outside of it.
Once I only had one Tentacle left I brought in the rest of the army and killed it quickly.
Afterwards the Drowned God will summon the void into the world, the only way to avoid any damage is to use the Orb of Wisdom by pressing the icon the shows up. Make sure you army is close together for this to work.

After that attack you can now damage it. You should be able to pull of around 1,000 - 2,000 damage before the Tentacles revive. At this point you can just repeat the process again.

A faster method is to follow the same process but use every unit, excluding Avatar to attack the Tentacles on the opposite side. This is a little more dangerous because its harder to dodge attacks and because of limited resources in case you lose too many units.
If you choose this method make sure you "always" retreat a unit as soon as it turns oranges (50% HP).

Whichever method you choose its going to be a lengthy battle. So be patient, don't do anything stupid and you'll commit Deicide.

The Drowned God is dead! Now begins the Age of Discovery! Please watch the ending cutscene, it is fantastic
