Contraband items may be used as weapons, escape tools or drugs and should not be in the possession of your prisoners. There are four types of contraband that can be found: Weapons, Tools, Narcotics, and Luxuries.

Contraband items

There are four types of contraband that can be found: Weapons, Tools, Narcotics, and Luxuries.

Contraband can be obtained through various ways, e.g. by smuggling it into the prison or stealing it from its facilities, and it can be used for various purposes, e.g. digging Escape Tunnels, getting high or killing guards and other prisoners.

Weapons are the most dangerous forms of contraband your prison can hold. Weapons are mainly used when prisoners fear for their lives and defend themselves against other prisoners.

Tools are the most troublesome forms of contraband your prison can hold. Tools can be used by your prisoners to dig Escape Tunnels whenever the Danger level of the prison is too high.

Narcotics are a menace that can be smuggled into your prison, and prisoners can steal narcotics from rooms that contain them. Narcotics have adverse effects on prisoners, making them more violent and can potentially cause them to overdose.

Luxuries; Except for the booze, which reliefs the Alcohol need, luxuries don't serve a purpose, but can still be smuggled into your prison.

Note: The Freedom Need is tied to Prison escapes even in a 'Safe Prison'. If all doors in your prison are locked and/or you have no freetime in your Regime prisoners will seek out a way to steal Contraband tool and may begin digging an Escape Tunnel. The remedy is ofcause to allow more freetime in the Regime and leave some doors unlocked. You might also place som Arcade Cabinet to help relief the Freedom Need.

Weapons

Weapons are mainly used when prisoners fear for their lives and defend themselves against other prisoners. However, weapons can also be used against staff members for rioting prisoners trying to escape.

Assault Rifle	Metal Detector	Can be taken from Dead or Unconscious Soldiers.	Assault Rifles can be used to shoot staff members or other inmates.
Baton	Metal Detector	Can be taken from Dead or Unconscious Guards and Riot Guards. Can be stolen from the Security Room and the Armoury. Can be smuggled into the prison.	Batons can be used to bludgeon staff members or other inmates.
Club	Cannot be detected	Can be crafted in the Cleaning Cupboard. Can be smuggled into the prison.	Clubs can be used to bludgeon staff members or other inmates.
Fork	Metal Detector	Can be stolen from the Kitchen. Can be smuggled into the prison.	Forks can be used to stab staff members or other inmates.
Gun	Metal Detector	Can be stolen from the Armoury.	Guns can be used to shoot staff members or other inmates.
Knife	Metal Detector	Can be stolen from the Kitchen and the Morgue. Can be smuggled into the prison.	Knives can be used to stab staff members or other inmates.
Rifle	Metal Detector	Can be taken from Dead or Unconscious Snipers. Can be stolen from the Armoury.	Rifles can be used to shoot staff members or other inmates.
Scissors	Metal Detector	Can be stolen from the Infirmary, the Morgue and the Library. Can be smuggled into the prison.	Scissors can be used to stab staff members or other inmates.
Shank	Metal Detector	Can be crafted in the Workshop. Can be smuggled into the prison.	Shanks can be used to stab staff members or other inmates.
Shears	Metal Detector	Can be smuggled into the prison.	Shears can be used to stab staff members or other inmates.
Shotgun	Metal Detector	Can be taken from Dead or Unconscious Armed Guards. Can be stolen from the Armoury.	Shotguns can be used to shoot staff members or other inmates.
Tazer	Metal Detector	Can be taken from Dead or Unconscious Guards and Armed Guards. * Can be stolen from the Armoury.	Tazers can be used to stun staff members or other inmates.

Tools

Most tools are made out of metal and therefore easy to detect by a metal detector. Keep in mind that some tools can be used as weapons, so try to keep prisoners happy and the demand for tools won't be so high.

Axe	Metal Detector	Can be stolen from the Forestry.	Axes can be used by the prisoners to dig Escape Tunnels.
Drill	Metal Detector	Can be stolen from the Workshop and the Storage Room. Can be smuggled into the prison.	Drills can be used by the prisoners to dig Escape Tunnels. They can also be used to puncture staff members or other inmates.
Hammer	Metal Detector	Can be stolen from the Workshop and the Storage Room. Can be smuggled into the prison.	Hammers can be used by the prisoners to dig Escape Tunnels. They can also be used to bludgeon staff members or other inmates.
Jail keys	Metal Detector	Can be taken from Dead or Unconscious Guards, Armed Guards, Riot Guards, and Dog Handlers. Can be stolen from the Security Room.	Jail Keys can be used by the prisoners to unlock doors and attempt to escape.
Saw	Metal Detector	Can be stolen from the Workshop, the Storage Room and the Forestry. Can be smuggled into the prison.	Saws can be used by the prisoners to dig Escape Tunnels.
Screwdriver	Metal Detector	Can be stolen from the Workshop and the Storage Room. Can be smuggled into the prison.	Screwdrivers can be used by the prisoners to dig Escape Tunnels. They can also be used to stab staff members or other inmates.
Spade	Metal Detector	Can be stolen from the Forestry.	Unknown
Spoon	Metal Detector	Can be stolen from the Kitchen. Can be smuggled into the prison.	Spoons can be used by the prisoners to dig Escape Tunnels.
Torch	Can't be detect	Not Possible	Unknown
Wooden Pickaxe	Can't be detect	Can be crafted in the Workshop.	Wooden Pickaxes can be used by the prisoners to dig Escape Tunnels.

Narcotics

Narcotics can develop into an Addiction that will cause prisoners to seek out drugs more often if left untreated. Most narcotics are categorized as smelly substances and therefore easy to detect by a guard dog.

Poison	Guard Dog	Can be stolen from the Infirmary and the Cleaning Cupboard. Can be smuggled into the prison.	Take care of drug need.

Luxuries

Some luxuries are categorized as smelly substances and therefore easy to detect by a guard dog.
