UI improvements, draft 3
UI improvements, draft 2
  • Ability buttons in game now use the same colour background as the UI text and made it more opaque
  • The Radar button now has it's own image and changed text to "RDR:OFF" and "RDR:ON"
  • Moved the unit stats boxes down just above the minimap
  • Buttons text has been moved down so that the text is centered
  • Moved Allies Scan UI icon to the menu box at the top left of the screen
  • The font for the selected unit at the bottom of the screen changed to 5x5HQ
  • Added a font for small bits of text that wouldn't fit with the 5x5HQ font
  • Moved the enemy unit stats at the bottom right a bit further up and to the left so it aligns with the player stats text in the middle and so that it doesn't overlap with the right bottom corner text and changed the name font to the 5x5HQ font
  • Health and energy stats at the bottom of the screen, and ship ammo at the top of the screen changed to the new BMS Text font
  • Updated the battlecruiser healthbar images, and made the background change colours when the unit is hit with a "HIT" indicator
  • Spaced out flagship tab (Terrain, AI) buttons
  • Shifted the battlecruiser health brs to the right so that they do not overlap with the left side of the battlecruiser tabs
  • Edited the formation button to make it easier to see
  • Added bars to show abilities with ammo and put the ammo names and ammo count text at fixed positions, made all the ammo names 4 letters long, and added LEMP Generator to Mainbase's battlecruiser tab
  • Fixed the unit models having white transparency, giving them a white border

Release date: Early 2017
Slizer: BMS is a Real Time Tactics game with a sci-fi setting and a symbolic minimalist art style. It takes traditional RTS gameplay and removes economy and intense micro in favour of more complex movement and combat. The options menu allows the player to turn off these options for a more standard RTS experience.

Gameplay consists of two stages: in the Planning stage you pre-select units, place them in formations and set their directions, equip them with weapons, armors, and special features, and issue starting orders. In the combat stage you play as a traditional RTS but with added features emphasising positioning and trade offs between accuracy, speed, evasion, damage, and other factors. It also promotes the set up of traps and pre-empting enemy strategies.

The game contains a story campaign, a highly tactical aircraft only campaign, randomised fleet battles, and a permadeath mode. There are 40+ player units and two enemy factions.

Other than a few unfound bugs, some missing sound effects and a rework on the story campaign, the game is mostly complete. It will be released for free on Steam, and a paid sequel with a higher budget will be made after. I am looking for any feedback you may have (especially negative feedback) and any bugs you may find.

Maybe if you make the UI more simplistic it will be way better. Overall nice game. YES!

Thanks for all the feedback. I clearly need to work on UI and backgrounds, but I'm not entirely certain what specific parts to change.

My current idea is to replace as much text as would make sense with images. I'll also set the default background colour to dark, since that's already an option in the options menu. Same goes for the black text on the unit names, i'll set the default to colours instead of black. I'll try to simplify the stats boxes on the left as well, and move the buttons on the right.

I don't particularly think these changes will suffice but I don't seem to have the same priorities for UI as most people. Best I can tell, the unit models seem to be fine. As with the UI, there are options to change the unit models as well, but I'm pretty sure they aren't as good.

As for the accusation of me stealing unit models, I can assure you I created all of these myself, and I've never heard of the game that I supposedly ripped them from.

You need to hire an artist who specializes in UI design. I think there's an interesting game here, but it's buried under a terrible visual design.

The UI would fit a small niche. As long as its usable, I would enjoy a game like this; however, I think a UI rework would attract more interest. Nevertheless, I'll upvote.

Visually, I'm getting some old DOS/early Windows game vibe, but not in a good way.
