This classic beauty of a game is still online with modern updates!
You just need the multiplayer patch to play online.

We also run Athena Sword, Iron Wrath, Rogue Spear and original Rainbow Six maps and of course custom maps on our servers. Brand new maps and weapons, items and terrorists to fight as well! We also have many improvements to graphics and HD hit effects etc.

1) OpenRVS 1.6 Update Is Here (32kb) (Feb 2024)

2) Get the Sound Update so you can hear proper multiplayer sounds from custom maps and expansions

3) If you want, we HIGHLY recommend that you get the Optimization Patch as well. It will help run the latest maps smoother and it fixes a lot of issues with Windows 10 and modern PC compatibility.

Just copy Mods and System folders into your Rainbow Six 3 Gold or Raven Shield folder.

How to install the update:
1. Close the game, close Steam or Uplay
2. Install to your Rainbow Six 3 Gold or Raven Shield folder. Run the patch as Administrator.
For example if you have the Steam version you would go to:

C: > Program Files > Steam > steamapps > common > Rainbow Six 3 > system

or

C: > Program Files (x86) > Raven Shield > system

for other versions.
3. IMPORTANT! Set your connection speed to T3 in the Multiplayer Options
4. Go to Multiplayer > Internet (not LAN) and hit refresh to see the servers then Play!

OTHER TIPS / INFO:
• I suggest 1920x1080 resolution for most people this looks the best.
• Right click Ravenshield.exe - Properties - Run As Admin and Compatibility for Windows XP SP3

• WINDOWS ISSUES: Sometimes it does not install to the game folder.
* MAKE SURE GAME IS CLOSED. Close STEAM or UPLAY too.
* If it still does not work (W10 sometimes), manually install the patch. Just install the patch to a folder on your desktop. Then just copy and paste the inside folders (sounds, armpatches, system) to your game folder. Done!

Hey Matt. Who knows lol. Some people genuinely like to just chill and watch others. No different than when people watch streamers in the background on Youtube or Twitch.

If you come on the Discord you will even get that. Sometimes we will be streaming R6 3 in the live streaming channel and people will join and not say a word and just watch us take out tangos in coop hahaa

Hello, great guide. BTW, consistently noticing that when I join a server with friends, often someone joins and silenty sits as a spectator. Sometimes they will play a few rounds then permanently switch, others will not join in at all. Is this suspicious in any way or is it just an admin? It seems odd that they wouldn't speak.

@The Afterman - If you want to play modded single player copy your game folder and make one installation with mods and the other one without mods. Create a shortcut to the .exe on your desktop for the other folder. Keep one folder clean with no mods only the multiplayer patch. Launch it when you want to play online.

You cannot mod your single player game and still play online. But the servers themselves have more modern mods anyways that will automatically be downloaded.

@pebble is not good at TF2 well there is COOP modes
theres actually also some maps that allow you to have AI backup AND play with other people in PVP also with AI backup like a mix but its rare to see

It can't break your game. Its got nothing to do with how the game runs or plays or starts
